I liked Cheadle more than Howard. Howard always sounded like he was whining.
Yea I was just about to post this lolSo how did Rhodes get out of the suit without a machine?
I wasn't that hot with Cheadle as Rhodey. I think Howard had a much better chemistry and presentation of the role in the first movie. I wish he returned as Rhodey. Cheadle came off as a little too timid.
On first viewing I also liked Howard as Rhodey better but I think that was just because I was used to him in the role. On second and third viewings I prefer Cheadle a lot more.
Here are my main problems with the Mark II/War Machine business:
-Where did the Mark II get an extra arc reactor? Why did Tony pack the Mark II with another new arc reactor. Does that one have the palladium core or what?
In just about every scene that shows his hall of armors they all have an arc reactor in them, the chest piece for each is glowing. Another cool thing I noticed better on second viewing is when Tony starts up his computer program and Jarvis. When it scans the Marks 1-4 over the Mark III it says "Battle damaged" and over the Mark IV it says "Awaiting upgrades". Don't know how I missed that the first time but I thought it was kind of cool although not necessary. Also, as someone stated in the past, Tony doesn't seem to need the arc reactor in his chest to run the suits anymore as seen in a number of scenes in IM2. So anyone(like Rhodey)could get in one and start it up...well, as long as they have access which Rhodey obviously does.
-The Mark II is an outdated and FLAWED model remember. Tony had to upgrade for a reason because the Mark II when going higher had an ice issue/fuselage issue. Does this not mean that the War Machine armor is also just as flawed? How will that issue get fixed since its still essentially the Mark II armor?
Most likely it's still flawed. Since Stark was wearing the Mark IV at his Birthday party, Rhodey's only choice was the Mark II. The Mark I was too old school and weak and the Mark III is battle damaged.
-Now I only have a problem with this because these issues are easily fixed by notes of course and by going off of the first movie. Tony wanted Rhodey involved with this. So that could explain why Rhodey knew the passcodes to the lab and knew how to operate the suit. It's been a while so Tony probably brought along his closest friend in letting him get acquainted with this stuff since Tony trusts Rhodey. I think they could've gone in that direction instead of Tony essentially saying HANDS OFF. Like Tony could still say HANDS OFF to everybody except you Rhodey. Because Rhodey clearly knew what he was doing.
I thought Cheadle was WAY better as Rhodey. Howard was far too meak. Watch the scene where he is trying to convince the guy to have the jets stop pursuit of Stark. As soon as he opens his mouth, Rhodey shuts up. He has no backbone, and is cut off and left speechless like EVERY scene. Cheadle, however, was a strong Rhodey. He kept talking over you, and was hard to shut up. When he looked at Tony in the party before getting the armor, you could see him doing something about it. Howard would have curled up in a ball and gone home. At the Capital Hill meeting, Rhodey spoke over Senators to make his point.
Cheadle all the way.
Again that's why I was fine with Rhodey knowing how to use it and knowing how to gain access to it when Fury and Black Widow mentioned the firewalls and Rhodey bypassed them. he bypassed them because Tony Stark clearly gave them to Rhodey.
As for the arc reactor, it was always indicated that the reactor also powers the suits and its instruments. So I don't know about it not needing one. And why would Tony build additional reactors for the old armors?
"Toh-knee, you are drunk!"Before I went to see IM2, I was a big proponent of Howard and I didn't think it was a good idea to recast Rhodey for the sequel, and the trailers seemed to suggest likewise. However, while I still would've prefer to see Howard stay for IM2, I think Cheadle did a good job and he works in the b-day party scene when he turned from a concerned friend to someone who just wanted to teach Stark a lesson. Howard might not have worked as well in the scene.
