X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

who in the MCU has used spandex all these years?

dont remember any single actor, male or female, that used actual spandex lol. Arent you familiar with that specific fabric? Im afraid not
I was being a bit facetious there
But Spidey basically wears spandex, and if any of the X-men should its definitely Nightcrawler
Dude's an acrobat, dont want him all armored up

I wonder if it’s weird having a British guy play a guy with Indigenous Australian heritage? Probably I would be the only one to find it weird
I personally would prefer to see an indigenous australian actor if possible. There is almost no representation for them in Hollywood, so it would be refreshing. And we are not as likely to get someone like Gateway or Manifold anytime soon. Though I don't know which actor specifically should play him (but for Shard I'd pick Madeleine Madden).

I just watched Talk to Me, and the dude who played Joss, Chris Alosio, could make for a pretty decent Bishop

He's from New Zealand not Australia, so I assume Maori rather than indigenous Australian, but he's got the look and the size, and he was pretty solid in his small role in that movie

Spiderman is the youngest of the MCU and basically the only one that uses a spandex-like suit.

But all the adult heroes used tactical/kinda futuristic suits. And we can be sure the X-Men will have similar materials/fabrics, just with designs and colours inspired by each comic costume.

Deadpool and Wolverine suits already give us the direction they'll likely take.

I mean, we've already seen comic-accurate Xavier, Beast, Gambit, and Wolverine...
I was wondering how they would approach this, especially after seeing set pictures of McKellen in a version of his Fox uniform.
Assuming that was real, which I think it was, he's never had a cape like that in any previous film.

The OT cast looking like live action counterparts of X-Men 90s era is a no brainer, especially the first appearance of Beast, the Professor, the Wolverine and Gambit in the MCU.

Do i see Alan Cumming wearing spandex? Yes. If you watch the reality show The Traitors, he wore so many outlandish, almost costumey clothes in that show and he pulled them off.

Im so excited to see them looking more faithful and awesome than ever as a big "F*** you, Fox and Kinberg" from Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios.

real talk. They deserve a huge middle finger for never giving the fans what we deserved and wanted for decades.

I could see some of the X-Men being killed in Doomsday, then other X-Men like Rogue, Storm, Jean, Iceman, Colossus and the Wolverine showing up in Secret Wars.

Doomsday - Beast, the Professor, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Gambit
Secret Wars - Rogue, Storm, Jean, Iceman, Colossus, the Wolverine

I'm hoping some of them would cameo in Doomsday's mid/post credits scene.

Apparently Chris is ethnically Samoan.

I did find Aaron Fa'aoso who is a Torres Strait islander and has a pretty good look for it (I haven't seen his acting). But he's 49 now so probably a bit too old to play Bishop down the line.

She's a b-tier villain so it was "fine" she got that treatment in Dark Phoenix. Nevermind other B-tier/d-listers got better treatment in other Marvel movies.

I was talking about branching out to other villains rather than going back to Magneto every single time whenever there's a new X-Men movie. They proceeded complaining about Apocalypse and Mr. Sinister. These aren't terrible villains and main staples of the X-Men comics. Any good creative that knows the X-Men mythos, would know how to do with them in a movie.

Yes, the X-men has a bunch of good and fun villains. I am not making a distinction of a or b or d characters. Its more a long, in that list of villains, not that many work well with the the core metaphor of the X-men. Magneto and humans/sentinels frame the metaphor the most clearly. Apocalypse, Sinister, Mojo, Shadow King fun comic book villains, but at best, makes some messy issues of the core metaphor of bigotry.

And I think it comes down to what you want in an X-men movie. There are plenty of X-men fans who don't want a "woke" X-men, and only want comic accurate costumes. My thing is, at a time when the X-men is more relevant than ever (seriously, compare some of the anti trans rhetoric to various anti mutant rhetoric in the comics), you need the villains who are best able to represent the conflict. And yes, that means some of the more well used villains.

I love Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler, but I don't know about putting him in the Red and Black Spandex
His whole body will have to be mocap for that, he's not exactly in spandex-wearing shape lol

The Apocalypse endscene costumes were nearly perfect. Maybe spend some more money for better material, since they would get more screen time, but they were great.

I can agree with this

the best Apocalypse stories were either AoA, where he was largely the behind-the-scenes big bad with most of the focus on the alternate universe X-Men and his horsemen
Or Uncanny X-Force, where he was barely involved and it was more about his legacy

And both of those stories would take multiple films to set up
If they want to do those, we're gonna have to sit through at least one basic, "comic book-y" Apocalypse movie first

Its kind of funny. One of the better stories with him has him in a more protagonist role, X-cutioners Song. And hilarious that 97 seems to be adapting one of the worst Apocalypse stories.

I don't know if Feige remembers the newer cast members in DOFP, but I would love for Omar Sy to return as Bishop. He fits well with the OT cast.

I personally would love if they were to utilize more of the human villains. For example, Arcade who uses NYC as hunger game style arena where the winner is still murdered. He's using/killing mutants for sport. That would be interesting. Imagine the X-Men divided up fighting for their lives.

Henry P. Gyrich, Gen. Lang, Bolivar Trask, The Von Strucker twins, Reverend Stryker (in a cameo similar to X-Men 97), FOH, Graydon Creed, Genoshian militia, Senator Kelly from anti to pro mutant leader. Maybe see some humans working along side Bastion only for him to betray them.

Also think you could get a lot of mileage and be meta as hell with a really good film with Mojo as the main antagonist.

But they’d probably save him for Wade.

In the end he is revealed to be a mutant because he hates himself for being one.

That Arcade idea would be so cool for a sequel. I like that.

Yes! the deceased bodies would be hanged from the Brooklynn bridge to cause fear among the mutant community. Also how cool would it be of the Hellfire Club or the Von Strucker twins/Fenris was sponsoring his sick game. In a post credit scene we get a round table of hidden figures who are wanting to take out the X-Men.

I don't find Arcade interesting. Definitely a Disney+ MCU show villain vibes.

I agree because the movies are a bit formulaic. Stark always fights a robot guy, ect. Would be nice to mix it up a bit. Besides, norms in the real world would naturally be the bigger threat.

For me the games just seemed too elaborate to work in the real world and I like my mutants grounded. I want stories that could really happen.

If this is the final fight for the universes survival, and they are confirming Ian, Rebecca and Alan... to me this is a sign that they will bring the whole X-Men team on Doomsday, tbh.
I wouldnt be surprised if Feige brings Iceman, Jubilee and Psylocke too. Its an alternate universe, so they wouldnt have any problem using both Lana and Olivia with the original cast.

My two cents.
Better is not bringing too much x-men variants and keeping them for new MCU X-men cast
I didnt want Cyclops and Gambit before new installment movie post-Secret Wars

They will definitely bring as much familiar faces, as they could in Secret Wars since its the big finale.

They brought back Ross Thunderbolt, Ancient One, the kid from Iron Man 3 and Red Skull in Endgame. So I could see Olivia Munn, Ben Foster, Lana Condor and Elliot Page returning even if for a short second.

Sidebar, but since we are getting a whole Mutant Saga, do you think they’d do Krakoa?

I could see the whole concept being used for ONE movie.
Krakoa has become one of the most iconic eras and seems to be very well regarded among fans. It will happen eventually.

I think the concep would be wasted on one single movie only.

But a whole season of 97 seems more appropriate, since they'd have more time to develop.

Doubtful. Genosha and E for Extinction is a much more succinct and single story for them to do.

Krakoa is more a status quo than a singular story. To boil it down to a single movie would lose a lot. And besides, Krakoa as a status quo was a result of almost 2 decades of mutant extinction storylines, which one hopes the MCU avoids.

I prefer a Genosha adaptation over Krakoa tbh. I guess it doesn't have to be an 'either/or' situation but I don't like the Krakoa era as a whole. Cool concept & idea, so maybe MCU can take it & run like they did for Civil War.

Ideal first villains would be:
- John Sublime & the U-Men
- Karl Lykos
- Friends of Humanity
- Project Wideawake / Sentinels
- Magneto & Brotherhood of Evil Mutants
