X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

I've been saying this since Kamala's reveal at the end of Miss Marvel.

Hang on now, 'Every movie post Deadpool & Wolverine will be the Mutant Era coming into the MCU'?

Like, Cap 4 and Thunderbolts and F4 and Blade are all going to involve mutants?

I'm expecting 2028 or '29 depending on whether or not Secret Wars stays in its current slot or get delayed again. I'm pretty confident this will be the first post-SW film.

I think he may not literally mean mutants play a role in every movie. But still fun to speculate 1 mutant per project who could show up.

  • Cap 4: We know Sabra will be in it
  • Thunderbolts: Ursa Major could return maybe?
  • F4: might set up Franklin Richards?
  • Blade: this one is the hardest here. I don't think it would make sense to anything like BloodStorm or Vampire Jubilee here. I guess Selene might be vampire-adjacent, but I think she's too big and unrelated to Blade to introduce here. Dead Girl could be a fun addition, and small enough that it won't impede on future X-Men plans.
And for the shows

  • Agatha: Wiccan
  • Daredevil: They could have any mutant vigilante or small villain. Could have Typhoid Mary returning. Or turn someone like Bullet or Muse who don't have a clear origin into a mutant for the show.
  • IronHeart: There was a rumor that Shea Coulée would play Darkveil, but I think it was since reveiled that they're actually playing Slug, a member of Hood's gang. So not sure.

Also Cap 4 is rumored to involve a certain metal substance

The fans' lack of patience over the last two phases has been bewildering. We waited with bated breath during Phases 1-3 to see how everything came together, but now that Marvel has shown their hand (Infinity War and Endgame), fans feel like they know what should be happening instead of just riding the wave.
yeah, Marvel fandom has gotten really impatient.
But in terms of X-Men fans... I can understand. The last generally satisfying X-Men movie was in (wait for it) 2014: 10 f****** years ago, so the x-men fans have their right to be a little bit impatient or directly desperate, you know? :tearsofjoy:

we know, we got X-Men Apocalypse and the mindblowing/genre-changing Dark Phoenix.... but those were the "Magneto/Mystique Era", so........ yeah, the x-men fans have all the rights to be desperate by 2024, lol.
Asking all of us to wait 5 more years would be just torture at this point.

2025: Captain America, Thunderbolts, Fantastic 4
2026: Shang-Chi, Avengers, Spider-Man
2027: Doctor Strange, Avengers, Thor or Black Panther
2028: X-Men, Fantastic 4

I'm hoping Young Avengers and Armor Wars are canceled now, and I don't really want a Thor 5. I think the X-Men are the only major Marvel IP not to have a mcu film and a release date. Even if Blade is somehow gets made and released, 3 years from now, that's not gonna be a top-tier Marvel franchise at the box office. I can see Ghost Rider getting a featured film, but then they didn't do that with Daredevil so I'm not expecting one.

Captain America 4 isn't gonna outgross the previous Captain America films and early screenings from it have been bad. I don't think people are going to be that excited for Thunderbolts* especially with that roster. The Fantastic 4 have several obstacles to overcome. And if all of those three underperform next year. Marvel Studios would have to rely on sequels for their most popular characters and the X-Men, and they need to get the X-Men right and not rush it and not launch it when foX-Men are still around. The original X-Men cast completely undermined the First Class cast right after DOFP which translated at the box office.

Great comments from Feige about the X-Men at around the 4:40 mark.

Had no idea today was Deadpoool and Wolverine premiere in NY with cast and crew, red carpet and all.
Will be interesting to see which and how many Fox actors appear, specially taking into account all the rumors and the whole concept is this movie.

Honestly, I will probably avoid watching it. I was lucky enough to go to the DoFP premiere in NYC, and they also let us see the movie that night. But I'll never forget seeing Famke on the red carpet and feeling spoiled.

yeah... I have mixed feelings right now. I want to see if Feige and co. really invited everyone involved in the movie or they avoided certain appearances on the red carpet to not spoil the film surprises.
Do you think they openly invited everyone who makes a cameo to this event, 2-3 days before the actual premiere (in some countries)?

It’s interesting…we’ve talked about how the films will look if Trump comes back but I wonder what the x-men films would look like during a Kamala presidency?

Hated Tatum as Gambit. Hated it.

Cant wait for another Fox-Verse send off on Secret Wars or whatever. :o

Doesn't matter. The bigwigs are convinced they have to chase the "non political message" money.

Ok so tinfoil hat theory time. After watching Deadpool & Wolverine, I think I have an idea what they might do with the MCU X-Men, roster wise anyway.

After watching this movie as well as reading/watching the various interviews with Feige, I feel like we're not getting recasts (at least for some anyway). I really don't think Hugh is done, I think he may stay on for a bit longer even after Secret Wars. Regardless of how the mutants are introduced in the MCU post Secret Wars, I really do think they still plan on using some of the the original actors for certain characters but will also introduce new ones as well. Basically the team is going to be a mixture of the old guard (Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Beast, etc) as well as younger mutants that haven't been in the movies. And I think they may stress more on the idea that this is a school and the older actors/characters are basically mentoring the newer ones. No idea about Xavier or Magneto though, but I could very well see both characters benched, at least initially anyway.

Don't know the likelyhood of this, just a feeling I have at the moment.

Which makes the Kelsey Grammer Beast cameo even stranger. Is it a farewell or not?

Honestly, after Secret Wars maybe Marvel should just squarely focus on X-Men. I’ve said it before but these SDCC announcements have me questioning MCU choices

Its a farewell to 20th Century Fox and the era they came from, and Deadpool & Wolverine is the first MCU film (post-Fox) to have two leads that were leads in that era. Lauren Shuler Donner is already credited as a producer in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Just 6 years ago, people behind that series (Foxverse) were planning to launch so many films. And they were abruptly canceled due to Rupert Murdoch selling the studio to Disney, and that must have been a big blow to Reynolds and everybody who were involved in that series.

That post from Reynolds, doesn't mean those actors who appeared in those 18 20th Century Fox films won't ever appear in a Marvel movie again. Marvel Studios need a lot of them for Secret Wars and Doomsday.

Gemma chan as Psylocke? Can she pull off three marvel roles and counting?!
Add Johansson as Jean Grey and Jackman as Wolverine or Magneto, why not?

Seriously what a completely uninspired choice for one of Marvel's greatest villains.

I fear for the future.
