X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

Its crazy to think that plenty of users on here were making fun of those fans wanting more of the original cast back in 2009-2014.... and now, not only they are coming back........ in 2021-2024..... but also... under Marvel Studios nonetheless! :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:

Karma is funny.

Here's the thing: if Secret Wars ends like the comics, we will be introduced to a new reality blending several universes. I think introducing the X-Men and the Fantastic Four as heroes from other realities means they most likely ARE the MCU versions.
Could be right but I certainly hope not
Secret Wars should be their send off, with the proper MCU versions introduced at the end
I love me some Hugh Jackman, but I don't want a 60 yr old Wolverine

I can see them keeping Jackman as Old Man Logan, but some of the cast will be 60+ by the time Secret Wars comes out. And Marvel will want them at least for 10 years. Do they want a 70 year Jean Grey and Storm?

I don't see it happening. Hopefully we'll get a full new cast.

And since their come back is inevitable. I want to see her.

I think Marvel will want X-Men around for a very long time so the original cast (as much as I love them) might be too old a decade after they finally show up in a MCU X-Men film. I'm totally up for seeing them in Deadpool 3 and Secret Wars though.

Exactly. Given the state of the MCU I think X-Men will be a huge future asset for them and they will want the new characters hanging around like Thor/Iron Man/Cap. As it is now we can't even be sure when Kang Destiny will finally arrive with all the volatility behind the scenes, nevermind Secret Wars, and nevermind the actual MCU X-Men film. I think they will want actors who can play the characters at least 10 years after the original MCU X-Men film.

As that Loki writer said, everybody is chasing the X-Men because that's where the richest characters are.

Marvel started meeting with writers pitching ideas. Hopefully we'll someone amazing for them.

I didn't see that. Great to hear, hopefully many exciting projects being discussed.

Right now, seeing the OT back is all X-Men we can get, probably still because of contract issues.

I hope whatever they have in mind for this multiverse X-Men is bigger than just seeing them in classic costumes. Because what I really don't want to see is Jackman's Wolverine front and center again, with the X-Men in the background, sort of like DoFP.

That's my biggest concern, so I hope I'm wrong, because it will be a long way until we see them leading their movies.

Yeah, spread the love a bit better than the Fox films did.

Could be interesting to see how Secret Wars is resolved. Maybe we might get some of the future MCU X-Men show up at the end or the credit scenes.

I think some of the old actors will stick around. I have a feeling Hugh will be one of them. Especially if audiences fall in love with him again after Deadpool 3. Feige knows this. Age is a non factor.

It’s possible with Wolverine and Beast who can work fine as older characters. I just can’t see the whole team being in their 50s (the young ones) 60s/70s once the X-Men get to the next mega-event after Secret Wars, another generation later.

As great as they have been, I don't want anybody back for a full MCU reboot. Not even Jackman.

The core X-Men will be in their 60/70s. The "younger" ones in their 40/50s. Stewart and McKellen in their 90s. I can see them genderbending Kitty, but Kitty, Jubilee and Bobby won't be developed as teenagers. And the cast of New Mutants will be in their mid 30s if not 40 by the time a New Mutants spin off is released in the MCU.

And most importantly, we have to keep in mind this post Secret Wars saga will most likely focus on Gen Zs as target audience.

Give the new generation a chance to play these iconic characters and help reinventing them.

I don't think Feige cares about age. He just cast Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards and the dude will be 50 when the first F4 film is released. Also, Jackman looks better and is in better shape than most men half his age.

I don't think Feige cares about age.

He and Hollywood does. But ageism affects mostly women, which is why they cast younger women to play Agatha, Cassandra Nova, Aunt May and Madame Web. So I'm sure Feige can give a pass for Jackman.

But my point remains about giving a new generation a chance to reinvent these characters. Pascal might be 48, but he's at least a fresh face.

Here's the the thing.

If your going to do a new Wolverine, then bringing back Jackman was a misstep. It's already an uphill battle to find a new guy but bringing back Jackman and reminding audiences how awesome and beloved he was, just made it 100 times harder.

Feige knows this. I suspect he brought back Hugh because he wants him back for good, depending on how Deadpool 3 is received.

100% agree with you here.

Jackman has proved he's great in the role. Personally, I would love to see a new face helping reinvent this character for a new generation. And I'm sure I'm not alone. But there are people who wants to see Jackman, and Feige could be one of them.

I'm still on the "full new cast" team tho.

If we see Beast again whenever they relaunch X-men....should they go old school with monster make-up or go modern and fully CGI like Hulk?

I'm not putting much thought about a new X-Men cast and X-Men film, until after Secret Wars in 2027. And who knows if Disney would delay that further. Marvel Studios has bigger priorities right now, their quality control in spiraling down and its now affecting the public's interest with their newest film. If they continue to flop, that would affect Secret Wars (the film where the OT X-Men cast will probably appear) and the eventual X-Men reboot.

I'd agree if we ever had great makeup or prosthetics.

It's no different than Thanos, Groot, or Rocket. Sometimes it is the best option for a character who isn't normal-sized.

Mystique, Nightcrawler, and Beast were all great make up and prosethetic. First Class was a bit of a step down, likely due to time and budget issues. Not being comic accurate does not take away from the work they did on those looks.

Orrrrr, the most likely reason, is that this is something Reynolds has been pursuing since DP 1. The rest of it? That is likely Feige pushing it onto Deadpool 3 because of NWH and MoM. And probably ruining a good movie. I've seen how this plays out on CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths.

I'm not even convinced the new guy will even be a guy. I feel like the logical thing to do, after giving people Hugh Jackson's Wolverine again, would be to just have Laura take Logan's place in the main universe.

Every iconic superhero role has been recasted over the decades. Wolverine shouldnt be an exception. He's not god, he is just a d*** character.
Enough of this protective attitude regarding Jackman and his Wolverine.

If the X-Men are gonna get rebooted/recasted (again), Wolverine must be included on that.
period.

Those characters are so different that I don’t see one as replacing the other. I’d love to eventually get both and see their relationship (a bit like we got it Logan) even if they do other things and are in different teams most of the time.

I believe we're looking at 2029 for an X-Men movie, the earliest. SW will probably be delayed to 2028, and that being optimistic that there won't be any other delays till then.

Thankfully we at least have the cartoon next year. Hopefully we'll get multiple seasons, or a brand new cartoon with a new concept.

Keaton’s Batman was great (his Bruce Wayne wasn’t your typical Wayne, more like Wayne with a bit of Beetlejuice in him :D ). But if we gatekeep and keep old Keaton forever we don’t get Bale and Battinson and whoever comes next. Same goes for Nicholson’s Joker, no Ledger or Phoenix, and of course worst of all, no Leto!! :funny:

Maguire’s successors have each brought something to the table. And with Sean Connery, the definitive James Bond for me, if we’d never have recast him we would have missed decades of great Bond films.

We will get a new Wolverine be it soon or a fair amount of time later, and there’s nothing stopping that Wolverine being great if the actor and all the creatives involved with making that character as good as possible do their job well.
