X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

I'm not entirely against it. I also want to say this: this X-Men film needs to be a massive event, with a lot of world-building. We've gotten the "intimate" X-Men films under FOX. Now we need to show why the X-Men are bigger (and better!) than the Avengers. They need to show us the inner workings and politics of Mutant Kind and how they are connected to every aspect of the Marvel universe. Morlocks, Hellfire gala, Muir Island, Savage Land, SPACE. It should be a sprawling epic.

I don’t think it’s real. It feels like one of those news items that’s designed to go viral.

If it is true it’s ok but it definitely means marvel is out of new ideas and just wants to reheat past success

Exactly this!!!!!!

I wonder if we are going to get a scene where Hugh Jackman's Wolverine gets transported to the 616 universe, maybe after his universe gets wiped out and all the X-Men are dead in it, and he goes to recruit the newly formed/young X-Men. Like say Sadie Sink's Jean and the rest of them are in the classroom at the X-Mansion getting a lesson from Xavier and Wolverine barges in and tells them he wants their help (and tells Xavier to read his mind so he knows he's telling the truth about the threat Doom poses to all the universes). Kind of similar to Tony Stark recruiting teenage Peter Parker in Civil War.

What makes X-men better than the Avengers is the intimate stuff. You lose what makes the X-men the bigger you make them.

I wouldn't worry much about it, for now.

Marvel Studios would need to see the over all reception with the Fantastic 4 and the next 2 Avengers movies first, before committing 100% with what they want to do with the rebooted X-Men.

For all we know, Doomsday or Secret Wars or both of those, could end up as a critical failure and they'd use the X-Men reboot to forget what happened in those movies.

What's the Russos rumor people are mentioning?

But I don’t think those things are mutually exclusive. We can be intimate without the world feeling small.

I think it’s wild that they have had the X-Men rights for 6 years now and you think they don’t have a plan yet.

Probably just produce. Aren't they supposed to be directing Secret Wars, too?

They are directing both Doomsday and Secret Wars, and are rumored to be staying around to guide the direction of the Mutant Saga in phase six.

In which part of my post I said they don't have plans yet. They obviously do as Kevin Feige has been talking about the X-Men for how many years now?

Me stating that they don't have a director yet few days ago, which I assumed few days ago, they would get a director that isn't currently attached to a 2026/27 MCU movie IS different from getting a director that is currently working on 2 Avengers movies, which made me said if they want to commit 100% they might want to see how the other films perform first especially if they want to hire Russo brothers for the X-Men. They can have plans at the moment for X-Men but its clearly not 100%, until they started filming stuff which could take many years from now.

If those two Avengers movies don't work out so well in the next 2 years, and they already committed to having the Russos for the X-Men, that wouldn't be good news to the X-Men.

Lol that.

From this article:

"the Russo Brothers are reportedly in the running to helm the much-awaited X-Men reboot. "

It doesn't sound just producing. Sounds like directing. Secret Wars and Doomsday better be good, if the plan is to give them the X-Men after Avengers. I don't think Secret Wars/Doomsday could be as good as Winter Soldier/Civil war/Endgame/Infinity War. I can't name many directors who don't have any misses after directing a couple of cb movies. At some point, they would though I would like to be wrong.

The Russos already had multiple misses since Endgame.

Really none of the names matter until they are ready to shoot. Gambit was in versions of the X-Men 3 script. Beast was in multiple drafts of the 2000 X-Men movie.

If we are talking about the team lineup, I think its logical to assume they will have that finalized before they shoot a frame of film.

Gambit was supposed to be a cameo in X3 (and in X2), and both of those were cut.

His role in X-Men 3 was well more than a cameo. He was meant to be an actual character in the film.

The Fox era was a mess so I expect Marvel Studios to be different when it comes to roster changes. Beast was cut in X1 because of the budget. Gambit was in the script, because they were putting everyone in the movie, including Psylocke as one of Callisto's goons. I don't remember how huge Gambit's role was in the script I've read, but iirc remember Josh Holloway turning down the role. They also had concept arts for Stacy X.

Yes, because they have stopped "fixing it in the edit", right?

He wasn't going to have a big role in X3 at all. He was going be one of the mutants Magneto freed from the convey. It wasn't worthy of a character of Gambit's popularity and was cut.

Now, if he is going to be on the team from the get go, I don't expect him to be cut from the movie. That is far different than some background character.
