X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

Seriously though, watching this again makes me want to rewatch X3. Surely it must be amazing. I have to stop myself and remember lol.

Because even scenes with practical / unpolished effects like Magneto attacking the prison convoy & Jean escaping the med lab featured in the trailer look better than how they do in the final film.

With regards to X3, complimenting the Phoenix story (inspired by the Ultimate run, not 616) with the cure story always made sense to me— Jean’s embracing the full extent of her power & doesn’t want to hold back, while the mutant community is offered the opportunity to forgo their powers forever. There’s drama there, but no strong vision to steer the ship. And having Rogue choose to take the cure for Bobby is unforgivable; shame on that decision they made for her character.

Notwithstanding the allegations against Singer, X-Men and X2 hold up pretty damn well. Black leather costumes & all.

I rewatch them all the time. It’s good for the souls especially in times like these
The death of Foxverse, really made me not to rewatch the Foxverse movies for a long time. Even when Patrick, Kelsey and the rest in D&W joined the MCU, I still haven't rewatch the OT/Dofp since maybe 2019 or 2020? I tried to rewatch The New Mutants since its the last one, I couldn't finish it. The last time I rewatched Dark Phoenix, I was so bored yet still in awe, how the franchise got that bad, after multiple highs post X3/Origins.

Same, they are kinda like comfort movies I can have in the background as I am doing other things lol.
I do this with a lot of tv shows but with movies I already saw, I'd rather turn off the tv instead of just hearing things in the background.

New mutants I probably wouldn’t recommend but sometimes you just really need to see Magneto smash a stadium over the white house

Magneto's over dominance in 7 X-Men movies really soured my enjoyment of all the X-Men films.

Apocalypse, Mr. Sinister, Cassandra Nova, etc. There are so many villains that could have been in the spotlight without the presence of Magneto. If not the villains, the X-Men themselves could have been given the importance instead of Magneto. We didn't get a break from Magneto, aside from solo films and New Mutants.

2000, 2003, 2006, 2011, 2014, 2016 and 2019. He really had a run in the movies. So for once, I wish Cyclops would get more importance than Magneto.

Magneto is a more important X character than Cyclops. Xavier and Magneto are the core of the X-men story. Cyclops is an extension of Xavier's influence on the X-men story. And frankly, when he steps out of Xavier's shadow, in the comic books, he becomes a version of the character most don't like. You either start with Magneto or you start with humans as the villains. Because all those other X villains are comic book bull**** that distracts from the core message of the X-men.

And these days, I am much less willing to entertain watering down the message of the X-men.

Sith, I truly revere you and I disagree, but what’s your beef with Scott?!

You really keep your foot on his neck. LOL.

X-factor #1 is a permanent stain on the character. I really liked the character. And eventually reading that issue, it really ****ing hurt. I can't really hold him up as THE X-men anymore. And what various writers have done to him since House of M has only diminished him more.

I get that and I do agree but it’s also lovely to see him kick ass.

Like especially Ian Mckellan as Mags. A gay actor slaying idiots at a time when people would openly mock the marriage equality and the westboro Baptist church were on the news every night. Seeing magneto fight back against people like that probably kept me alive

Overexposed is overexposed. Good things in certain movies, doesn't change the fact. The treatment to other essential X-Men characters just shows the creatives during that era only truly cared about a handful of characters.

Imagine if we had Joker in every Batman movie, and Green Goblin in every Spider-Man film. The X-Men are also a team with a huge rogues gallery, they could have played around more with what they had, rather going back to Magneto everytime they got a chance to make another X-Men movie. Their adaptation of Selene in the last movie is just unacceptable.

Lets not overestimate the X-men rogue gallery. A bit of the problem with the "huge" rogues gallery, is that that it contains a few times with big rosters. And not all the enemies are equal. I love Apocalypse, he is one of my favorite villains. But he is a character that is very one note, very comic booky, and quite frankly, has extremely few good stories with him. You are complaining about Selene, who is b tier at most.

And then it comes down to my main issue, which is far too many of the villains are more comic booky than villains that the X-men metaphor requires. I'm sorry, but Sinister is the absolute worst villain to use for the first MCU X-men villain, if you want a true X-men movie. Same with Apocalypse. And what infuriates me is that there is a non zero segment of the fandom that doesn't want a political X-men movie. As infuriating as right wing Star Trek fans.

I don't have much hope, because it is clear that there are too many MAGAts in the executive wing of Disney. But, Betsy Braddock is never going to be Psylocke in the MCU.

In a perfect world, the MCU X-Men’s first antagonist should be a mutant hating human.

Get a name to be Graydon Creed, have him as the face of the Friends of Humanity or the Purifiers or whatever, and with a beefed up and armed militia to combat the X-Men. And to fill the CGI quota, a big ass Sentinel fight in the 3rd act.

And get Anna Sawai some purple hair dye and let her be Kwannon. :o

No one is asking for 100 X-Men movies for someone to overestimate the X-Men rogues gallery. The rogues gallery is huge, good enough for several films.

And yes, @Sithborg I can complain about Selene since it was a **** film adaptation. And look how you dragged Betsy Braddock the first and foremost Psylocke in the X-Men world into that post, when I wasn't even talking about her.

Selene would be so fun, I would love a Necrosha adaption but obviously lots to introduce first

She's a b-tier villain so it was "fine" she got that treatment in Dark Phoenix. Nevermind other B-tier/d-listers got better treatment in other Marvel movies.

I was talking about branching out to other villains rather than going back to Magneto every single time whenever there's a new X-Men movie. They proceeded complaining about Apocalypse and Mr. Sinister. These aren't terrible villains and main staples of the X-Men comics. Any good creative that knows the X-Men mythos, would know how to do with them in a movie.

I love Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler, but I don't know about putting him in the Red and Black Spandex
His whole body will have to be mocap for that, he's not exactly in spandex-wearing shape lol

I can agree with this

the best Apocalypse stories were either AoA, where he was largely the behind-the-scenes big bad with most of the focus on the alternate universe X-Men and his horsemen
Or Uncanny X-Force, where he was barely involved and it was more about his legacy

And both of those stories would take multiple films to set up
If they want to do those, we're gonna have to sit through at least one basic, "comic book-y" Apocalypse movie first

who in the MCU has used spandex all these years?

dont remember any single actor, male or female, that used actual spandex lol. Arent you familiar with that specific fabric? Im afraid not
