I didn't feel like it was undermined in any way. I found it to be well balanced, tonally and thematically. More than your average MCU movie.

Pretty much everyone in the movie has done terrible things in their past. His teammates aren't gonna be shocked about him killing a man.

That's good writing. The movie lets its characters speak, instead of them being stand ins for " think pieces" and social media opinions from the audience.

P.S.: also, one of the points about Walker in the movie is about how he has a tendency to brush over things and portray his situation in a lighter way than it actually is . When the situation to his family comes out, his understated , but since shrug to Yelena is very telling (as to how he's aware about being a cocky, phony, lying loser/bastard).

Jake Schreier has been one of the most successful filmmakers in the MCU to find the raw humanity in the characters portrayed. If that doesn't qualify him for making X-Men, I don't know what will...

Film/media literacy is a beautiful thing. Embrace it.

I don't care how admirable Thunderbolts may have been, the simple fact is that white creatives should not be in the driver's seat for an X-Men movie where the central theme is about protecting a world that hates and oppresses them. This is not the past where white writers and artists had to hide behind metaphor because they were afraid of using non-white creatives or whatever, especially when we have creatives the likes of Ryan Coogler, Ava DuVernay, Cathy Yan and a plethora of others.

A white creative cannot drive home themes that are integral to X-Men or bring the sensibilities and nuances that a black/POC creative can. X-Men 97 Season One proved that.

So until the writer/director changes, I just see Feige with another possible dud on his hands.

This is such a huge and gross misconception of what storytellers actually do or should for a living...

In addition to that, it pidgeonholes POC's space in Hollywood.

Yan, Coogler and the others you've mentioned can be taken into consideration for " white characters" as well.

But whatever floats your boat. Again, film literacy is a beautiful thing.

I've always thought that Lana Wachowski would have been a good pick for the X-Men, but I'm enthused about Jake Schreier being hired to do it.

P .S.: Nia DaCosta would be a cool choice for a Weapon X/Wolverine origin movie in the future. She has a certain knack for brutality and tragedy based on Candyman that I think would fit the story.

Yet it didn't stop you from getting into X-Men comics/lore.... Stan Lee, Craig Kyle, Christopher Yost and Chris Claremont are just some of the people who wrote stories about X-Men.

I got into X-Men under Bryan Singer. I'm not concerned about getting a white director for a franchise that's consistently been white-run.

I also think it's likely that X-Men under the MCU will downplay the theme of discrimination. That's not what I want for the franchise, but when they do finally get to the point of making it, I've resigned myself to the likelihood that they'll do that to distinguish from the previous iteration.

Time ago I was interested/excited with the idea of a potential woman directing X-Men for the first time... but after all these latest years/cbms, current climate and all... I'll just accept whatever Marvel do, as long as the actual X-Men characters/members are treated with real respect and with good development (unlike most Xmen at Fox).

Is gutting the core theme of the X-men treating them with respect.

White men absolutely can tell good stories about discrimination and the fight for respect. But do you trust the MAGA execs at Disney to hire someone like that?

but Im sure it cant be worse than Simon Kinberg X-Men movies (not involving Matthew Vaughn+Jane G+Singer all working on the same movie)

The last good X-Men film came out more 11 years ago and Fox set the bar low with Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix and New Mutants for Marvel Studios not to come up with something at least "passable" for X-Men.

I don't think topping X2, First Class and Days of Future Past would be an easy feat, the movie would have to be more than above average for that. But the team dynamic and not revolving around the same 4 characters are something Marvel Studios could easily improve from those films.

The visuals, costumes, visual effects, set pieces are no brainer. Its the last big Marvel ip that haven't had a movie yet under Disney. If Fantastic 4 can track over $100 million for its opening weekend, I imagine X-Men could easily double that, especially after Deadpool & Wolverine last year.

The new X-Men has the MCU brand, but that brand hasn't been doing great recently. I think they should be happy if they open with $125 million and very happy if they hit $150 million.

Deadpool & Wolverine are basically the extension of the X-Men franchise. Something must be missing if the X-Men reboot, opens with the same numbers as MCU Fantastic 4 - which is currently tracking at least $125 million, opening weekend.

So around $200 million, and at least $175 million.

Well, no. Deadpool & Wolverine had nostalgia going for it. A new X-Men reboot would have to prove itself. Not the same.

Nostalgia is the #1 drug atm.

another proof that this film is the new MCU film in the most advanced stage from all the other sequels in development.
the only question here is: will Marvel want the X-Men reboot right after Secret Wars to take advantage of the momemtum? or will they wait at least 9-11 months to release it?

I want to see it by May 2028. But its unrealistic we are going to get that soon after Secret Wars, in which FoX-Men are obviously going to appear in.

Imo, instead of waiting for this reboot that is taking almost a decade* after Dark Phoenix's release. Marvel Studios should have released a FoX-Men movie this year, as a lead up to FoX-Men's participation in Doomsday and Secret Wars. We already got a Deadpool & Wolverine movie anyway, so another MCU film headlined by FoX-Men actors could have worked too, probably would have been more successful than Brave New World and Thunderbolts at the box office.

*thats if the reboot is already out before June 7, 2029.
