X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

I think as fans of FF found out, lets not overestimate the drawing power of the X-men.

The only thing I disagree with you on.

Sith, if they actually invest in the costumes (which at the very least we know they'll do), the story and get good actors in the roles, then there is definitely a ton of drawing power with the X-Men.

They are household names.

2 are household names.

The X-Men reboot should definitely feature Wolverine, too. Why hold back? Let's go all out!

Being known ≠ a guaranteed big success. Look at Superman, that franchise has underperformed expectations at the box office for 40 years now (1983 - 2025).

The X-Men underperforming will be from the state of the genre/brand/studio moreso than how many household names there are individually. The X-Men have sold more books than anyone the last 40 years. The "X-Men" is the household name. Obviously there are breakout individual characters in popular culture, but those names will likely play a role.

Superman underperforming overseas was probably an effect of DCEU's run, which ended just 2 years ago.

There hasn't been a new X-Men movie since 2019. If Marvel Studios play their cards right, the story, the visuals, the roster, the costumes. It has the potential to outgross all FoX-Men movies, domestically and internationally.

This continuous doom and gloom when it comes to Marvel Studios, like as if Deadpool & Wolverine didn't gross over a billion last year and keep undermining Fantastic 4's success... is that going to go on until Marvel Studios' X-Men become one of the highest grossing films of 2028?

No doubt.

Being honest, Fox never played their cards right, they always undermined the X-Men true potential, both visually, costume wise and character wise. X-Men fans and Marvel fans have spent their whole lifes asking for key stuff that Fox never did, so if Marvel is smart and adapt them on the big screen just how X-Men 97 is portraying them, each individual, and yes, each costume.... general audience will - eat - it - up like if there is no tomorrow.

that, and Marvel Studios marketing machine is so much bigger than Fox ever was. faithful X-Men + Marvel Studios + huge marketing push = a lot of money. Im not saying it will reach 1 billion (maybe yes, maybe not) but 800m at least is highly likely, hell, even 900m. Imho.

I think people have the potential to like a new X-Men franchise, yes, but it’s not a foregone conclusion that it’s a $1B property when none of the films outside of Deadpool have ever been that.

Boo black leather costumes, sure, but when those movies hit, they hit. X1-3, FC, and DOFP is a pretty good run all things considered (though Rogue taking the cure is an unforgivable misstep). A cookie-cutter MCU reboot isn’t gonna move the masses. If it’s anything like FF, it’ll just come & go.

The Fantastic 4 earned $500 million worldwide which is a box office peak for the brand.

The X-Men surely could hit $800 million worldwide, especially Days of Future Past was close to $750 million, more than 11 years ago.

Let’s not worry about all that. It’s not our job to judge box office. As fans let’s just hope we enjoy it

We discuss box office performances all the time.

Fantastic 4 didn't even do as bad as Tron 3, Captain Marvel 2, The Flash, Black Adam and Thunderbolts*.

X-Men is a top tier Marvel ip, so I would pretty surprise if Kevin Feige doesn't use his A game for that.

You are missing most points, I think.

Marvel Studios Fantastic Four film already did more money than ALL Fox Fantastic four movies. and by a good marging. That alone already tells us Marvel Studios X-Men film have the potential to out all Fox X-Men movies too, and if Dofp already made +700 million with bad character representation..... just image what Marvel X-Men can do. This key aspect is what you are missing, I feel.

Fox never showed the X-Men like general audience knew them since the 90s show or the comics. This is key.

Deadpool & Wolverine (Marvel Studios) also made 1.5 billion, unlike any Fox Deadpool movie.

See a patern? Marvel Studios bring something to general audience than Fox didnt and thats why their movies make more money than all the other studios. This is what some fans dont understand well yet.

It is an important factor, though. Feige is fighting for his job. What he feels will make the most money is going to affect the film. And it has clearly always been a factor of Marvel Studios.
