X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

Ideally, Jackman’s story ends in Secret Wars and the MCU is a complete brand new cast.

But if Jackman’s Logan survives the collapse of the multiverse, then let he & Deadpool start the Exiles with Laura & other “forgotten” superhero franchises / actors.

If he must be in the MCU proper, then Jackman can serve as a mentor / drill sergeant at the X-Mansion like X-Men: Evolution. Laura can be there too, or better yet she’s hanging with Cable (that could be cool) or replaces Wolfsbane in an X-Factor film with Havok, Polaris, Forge, and Strong Guy
That sounds like a mess, using the Exiles brand for Fox Deadpool/Wolverine to play around.

If Fox was brave enough to make 3 X-Men movies without the Wolverine in the main cast (discounting the 2 cameo roles), Marvel Studios surely could too, especially if they want to establish the new X-Men cast to stand on their own.

Having Hugh Jackman in the X-Men reboot in some capacity, sounds like a lack of faith in the new cast.

Yeah, again, my preference is he not be there at all. A Deadpool/Wolverine project doesn’t need to be Exiles; I just figured that’s a good way to keep them separate from the MCU X-Men and its new Wolverine.

I like Jackman mentoring young X-Men; that should have been him in Apocalypse & Dark Phoenix. It could work in the MCU, but I’m also hoping the cast isn’t teenagers. They should be mid 20s/early 30s to match with Peter Parker. And they should be the ones mentoring young students.

So it’s just cleaner if it’s a brand new actor as Wolverine. Call me crazy— I like when he’s on the team. You can list all the other X-Men you want, but he’s a fan favorite. Plenty of Justice League characters to go around, but we like seeing Batman on the team.

Plus, Kevin Feige might just be saying Jackman’s going to be around for a while because he doesn’t want to spoil Secret Wars…

A X-Men movie without the Wolverine could work. The reason why Dark Phoenix flopped and Apocalypse underperformed obviously was connected to the lack of the Ot cast/Wolverine, but if the creatives knew what they were doing with the characters that were in the movie and delivered a solid movie, the box office results could have been so much better.

I just don't think how Marvel Studios' X-Men could fail without the Wolverine, when they delivered so many movies based on lesser known Marvel characters, if the end product is well crafted and marketed well. This isn't Foxverse which just threw whatever names they saw in the comics and plaster their work as a X-Men movie.

You are comparing apples to oranges, when bringing up the Justice League of all ips. We only had 1 Justice League movie unlike X-Men with 7. The Justice League movie wasn't even good, and still flopped with big names like Superman and Batman.

Deadpool & Wolverine made over a billion dollars at the Box Office. So Feige is likely being very serious.

If that were true then the 2005 film wouldn’t have gotten a sequel.
They were obviously factoring reviews as well.

First Steps is the ONLY FF movie so far to do well both at the box office and reviews. Considering how disastrous the 2015 movie, the movie we got this year, was a triumphant return in the movies for the brand.

Marvel Studios should be able to do the same thing with the X-Men in the not so distant future.

I wouldn't trust any date as secure until filming is done, lol.
Yeah. There's still Black Panther 3 and Dr. Strange 3, the former is guaranteed to happen. Who knows if FF2 arrives just 3 years after the first one, it should.

Those films and the X-Men are still up in the air at this point. I just hope Brand New Day/Doomsday/Secret Wars don't hit more roadblocks to prevent a domino effect on other upcoming Mcu films.

X-Men just less than six months after Secret Wars, doesn't seem realistic to me. But the earlier it comes, the shorter the wait for all of us. Dark Phoenix will be turning 9 by that time!

X-Men, X-Factor, Starjammers, and Cable (and/of X-Force) works for me

Throw in a Rogue & Gambit Disney+ series and I’m in
I would ideally like for Gambit to have a solo series (either movie or D+) without Rogue before we even think about doing a show with both of them.

I think you can highlight both characters’ backstories still, even if we cut to the chase and pair the two together. X-Men: Evolution had a great episode in S4, “Cajun Spice”, that honestly could serve as a good series frame work:

Remy kidnaps Rogue, claiming a trip to the bayou will help her overcome her past traumas. However, Rogue later learns he brought her to New Orleans to use her mutant power to save his missing father. When the X-Men realize Rogue is missing, they set out to find her.

Gambit’s history with the Thieves & Assassins Guilds can drive the main plot, while Rogue’s past with the Brotherhood and Mystique’s betrayal informs her character’s arc—better still, Mystique and the Brotherhood could be the ones searching for her instead of the X-Men if Rogue isn’t an X-Man yet.

Then, the climax brings both Gambit and Rogue face-to-face with their respective pasts so they can break the cycle & choose their own paths forward.

I am against any solo X-Men projects within the MCU. The fewer projects they work on, the faster we could get the next X-Men movie.

Like look how long we are waiting for the next Dr. Strange, Shang-Chi and Black Panther, those aren't even superhero teams.

I just want Gambit back on the big screen in a decent sized role before I die, lol.
Gambit and Rogue are probably going to be in Marvel Studios' X-Men, especially if the roster would be close to X-Men '97.

Rogue though is more likely, since Channing Tatum is playing Gambit in Doomsday and probably Secret Wars, so that might lessen the possibility of a rebooted Gambit just months after Secret Wars.

But the X-Men have so many characters to show—spin-offs will help make sure they all get screentime & can crossover for big Avengers-style event films:

The X-Men (Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Wolverine, Beast, & Iceman + new recruit Shadowcat) take on big bads like Magneto & the Acolytes, Sentinels (financed by Worthington Sr.), and Mr. Sinister.

X-Factor (led by Havok & Polaris, with Forge, Strong Guy, and Multiple Man) can take on Sublime & the U-Men, maybe throw in Sauron and Savage Land to make this the “zanier” counter to the main X-Men series

Starjammers (Corsair & co.) take on something out in space, and introduce us to X-Men space lore like Shi’Ar and/or Brood plus MCU connections with Kree and Skrulls too.

Cable fights Apocalypse across time. Maybe fold Bishop & Shard into Cable’s timeline, or just use the Six Pack with Domino & GW Bridge.

Rogue/Gambit introduce the Thieves/Assassins Guilds, Mystique’s Brotherhood, and breadcrumbs for a Mr. Sinister crossover event film—taking inspiration from any/all, Inferno, Mutant Massacre, or X-tinction Agenda). Maybe Multiple Man can be introduced as a fellow mutant thief & ally of Gambit’s to make space for other characters on the X-Factor roster (but still have your cake & eat it too with getting MM into the MCU)

Characters like Nightcrawler, Psylocke, and Colossus are not in those pitches but I think they could find their way into sequels (especially fan favorite Nightcrawler).

Would love a Starjammers show.

That’s probably least on my priorities lol but I see it like GOTG— it can be a fun side project that doesn’t really have any connection to the X-Men until a Phoenix redo or some alien invasion story.

Just going off the rumors that the MCU X-Men is going to focus on the Summers family.

No offense, but absolutely not. The Thieves Guild is an organized crime syndicate that deserves exploration of its structure and Remy's place in it on its own, not as fodder to advance Romy. I want crime drama/heist projects and I think that any other use of the Guilds would be wasting their potential in the MCU.

Also, they absolutely should not "cut to the chase" with Rogue and Gambit. The chase is the whole damned reason they became so beloved in the first place. Why would the audience be invested in them as a couple without it? I think comic book fans forget that the vast majority of people who watch these movies don't read comic books. They aren't going to care about Rogue and Gambit unless you give them good reason to. And that means development of each character as an individual and then - once you actually care about the characters - any romantic relationship they might have together.

Again, no offence. It's just that as a longtime Gambit fan (as well as Rogue and Romy fan), I cannot stand this idea some people have that everything Gambit does has to revolve around Rogue. Gambit is a very interesting, multifaceted character who I am sure will become an instant fan favourite in the MCU if written as he should be. As much as I love it, his relationship with Rogue is probably the least interesting thing about him.

You can do a limited series with Gambit and the Thieves Guild and his whole bit with Belladonna and his brother, all the while doing a limited series with Rogue and her whole family drama with Mystique and Destiny.

Have them join the X-Men, then do the inevitable Mr & Mrs X spinoff eventually.

Problem solved.
