Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

Its a fancy accessory (that is priced reasonably fair) if you don't want to use the TV as the screen. You still need to be near at the PS5 though, and the battery life...

Anyone getting/got it yet? Just want to see what people think.
I definitely will get one because a device like this is perfect for me, but just cannot justify the cost. I'll either wait a few months to buy one used on eBay, or if I am lucky then the official retailers will sell them open-box at a discounted rate too.
It's another hard pass for me. Seems pointless.
It's definitely a very niche accessory, that's for sure. And on top of that, the lack of cloud streaming, bluetooth, and other features make it very overpriced in my opinion. Hell, it's half the price of the original entry level Ps5.
Sold out in 2 days because of scalpers
Yeah those for sure had something to do with it. But I also think there was a small production volume of it too.

No you don't. Remote play works anywhere as long as the location you're in has wifi, and your Ps5 is on rest mode.
and the battery life...
What is the general battery life btw? I missed that part in the reviews.

You can't take this outside of your house and inside your car, unless you have an electric socket/electricity with you. And who really is going to a plug a PS5 inside a car.

yes, but you can take it to places that have wifi. maybe you can't use when you're in transit but once you've reached your destination, you can remote play as long as the internet is stable. do you know what the general battery life is btw?

Isn't that just the same as the PS4 controller? The battery life for DualSense isn't an improvement. Charging the controller actually annoys me, thats why I brought up battery life.

If you're asking if the Dualshock 4 and Dualsense have the same battery life length, I think they are comparable on that aspect. I'm not saying the Portal has good battery life. I'm saying it's bad, but not that bad. I'm fine with 6-8 hours personally, that's more than enough time for me.

At this point in my life, I'm lucky to get up to two or even three hours of straight gaming. I got a lot of other things going on which is why having the Portal would actually help someone like me get in some gaming time in my daily to weekly routine.

I don't play that much, but the annoying part is, it seems like I always have to charge the controller. I use my ps4 for streaming music/shows and films. And i always a get reminder that I need to charge the controller.

If they're the same Dualshock 4s that you've had since launch then maybe the battery has just degraded overtime. The Ps4 is 10 years old, after all.

I just got mine in 2017, I have a spare controller but I haven't really used it. Maybe the battery did indeed degrade since its been more than siX years.

yeah, 6 years is still a long time and if the standard battery life for a Dualshock 4 is up to 8 hours then it makes sense that after more than half a decade that they won't last as long.

Well, that's one problem of a closed ecosystem/walled garden. However, MS and Nintendo do allow third parties to sell digital codes (e.g. Humble Bundle for Switch games).

I will always champion for corporations losing money against "the little guy" but I reckon this lawsuit won't go anywhere.

I don't think people mind being in a walled garden when prices are long term competitive. Ask pc gamers how much the Steam monopoly has ruined gaming for them, and why they don't even bother downloading the same games for free from other providers. :D I ran out of space years ago so I wanted to go digital, but prices of old games on console stay so far above the physical versions that it feels dumb to pay up.

yeah, it's about prices being reasonable. I have never paid more than $45 for psplus no matter how many times they raised the price on it. Even with the Black Friday discount, it's more than $60. I think for the first time I am gonna just let it expire and not renew it ever again.

Mine at least as of this morning was still active. I don't play anything but single player and never use any network stuff I don't have to.

Awful.

New PlayStation firmware updates out that

We've made some security fixes to the system software.

No word yet if it’s a coincidence or related to the recent waves of mass bannings from PSN. They could just be plugging another jailbreak hack for all PS4 and PS5 systems.

Just saw a similar article.
