Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

Ideally, the Ps5 should have a storage size of 3TB without adding an eXternal drive. A 1TB increase from the Ps4 pro, but I guess that would have made the Ps5 more eXpensive.

Even though the PS5 has a price increase from Ps4 pro, they were selling it at a lost during launch.

I sometimes do delete older games though some of them I like to go back and replay in the future but don't like having to reinstall and potentially redownload a multigigabyte patch or two.

Yeah, I guess they’ve not been in an interim period like this before without enough material ready for 2 years in a row, with the extended dev cycles for AAA games now and then Covid also getting in the way. Next year’s show could be the one that hypes everyone through the roof!
I really think Sony should employ more people in their studios and I'm sure many would apply and would love to have the ps games under their resumé. Ideally, with technology, more people working at home and the gaming industry being more profitable, we should be seeing more games and sequels shouldn't take longer. But it seems to be the opposite.

I don’t think people want to get into gaming industry because The wages aren’t worth it especially since devs work ridiculous hours and there’s not much job stability look at all the recent layoffs that are happening, yeah the gaming industry makes billions of dollars but a majority goes to the higher ups and not the little guys

Dev cycles are longer as AAA games are so much bigger and more complicated now. Not much getting around that. :csad: I’m sure most devs would love to have one of Sony’s big studios on their CV, but unfortunately there’s a limited amount of staff in the industry unless you’re prepared to pay up to poach talent. It’s not the best paid or most secure career for the level of skills needed and working conditions are often very poor. Sony should try to the best of their ability to staff up though, especially at their big 5 studios.

The Last of Us 2, Horizon Forbidden West Budgets Revealed - PlayStation LifeStyle

The Last of Us Part II - $220 million
Horizon II Forbidden West - $200 million

These games are eXpensive, and they really feel like videogame counterparts of Hollywood's blockbuster movies!

Yeah, some massive budgets for sure. And that doesn't include the marketing budget either, which is always massive for Playstation.

This is why it always rubs me the wrong way when people try to characterise Microsoft as the one company that's just throwing their cash around. Like both these companies are spending a BUTT load of money all the time.

But with budgets like that, it 100% makes sense why Sony is so against the Game Pass model, because they're really banking on recovering a lot of that money in hardware and game sales. Quite a big upfront investment.

Any idea what ballpark the marketing budgets might be?

Oh it would be high for an exclusive. They'd be doing 360 marketing campaigns for a solid year, ramping up until launch. Sony generally also pulls from a lot of internal resources, so you tend to see all the other Sony platforms (and Sony Music etc) marketing the big things too.

My guess would be like $50M? But also wouldn't be surprised if it was higher.

I wonder if it will be the Slim or Pro a lot of people are saying it’s the slim and the Pro will be out next year

So I finally was able to get my hands on one as I want to play Spider-Man 2. To hold me over in the meantime, can anyone recommend good games? I’m not really into FPS so no Call of Duty. I like games like Spider-Man and Uncharted

God of War Ragnarok for sure, I'd also recommend Horizon: Forbidden West although they're both sequels so playing the original PS4 games is recommended although not technically necessary.

I'd also recommend Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor if you haven't played them yet and are into Star Wars at all. Both are available for PS5 and the gameplay feels like Uncharted at certain points.

There are also a few PS5 remastered games that are quite good if you missed out on any of them for PS4 like Ghost of Tsushima and The Witcher 3.

Congrats on getting one!

I had the Arkham games for the PS4. Knight is the only game that made me rage quit. The Batmobile gameplay was horrible.

I was stuck with the cloudbuster mission. One of the most frustrating missions to date in the ps4 era.

Ghost of Tsushima
Infamous Second Son
Last of Us 1 and 2
Days Gone even though a lot of people didn’t like it I thought it was a good game
Most of the best parts of Days Gone take place towards the end of the game and it's a bit of a long game that takes a while to really get going but it's worth sticking around for.

I'm open to a new PS5 that doesn't look like an ai generated designer vase.
It really doesn't look the greatest and I'm not up to date, but aren't you supposed to keep it vertical/upright? So it's harder to just tuck away.

Both PS5 and the new Xbox (looks like an anti aircraft cannon) look so poor

Still gonna get a PS5 in time for Spider-Man 2 tho haha

I don't care too much how a console looks since the vast majority of my time is looking at the TV where the console is displaying the game I am playing. And both of mine are laying flat and have no problems doing so.

The design is made for both placements and apparently a few have had some issues with the liquid metal when it's upright (must be really few otherwise it would have become a much bigger deal in the news) so the horizontal positioning actually does seem to be the better one. There's nothing in the cooling system that makes it matter either, unlike the Xbox that likely works best when upright.

Personally I have it horizontally in my TV bench that has sliding doors on the front so I don't see it until I'm about to use it. I have a couple of high end stereo equipment pieces there as well that actually look really nice but I generally hide those too just to keep a clean look to everything, so doors on the front is a good thing to have in my view.

You know with all the rumors of a Ps Slim releasing this year and the Sony handheld also releasing this year when do you think Sony will do a showcase that will show off the new hardware?

September, before Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is released in October, for a November 2023 is released.

Thats 2 months of pre orders.
