The Official Pull List Discussion thread

The Alpha Lanterns are apparently something Morrison came up with for Final Crisis, although Johns seems to have integrated them into his story fairly heavily. I'm enjoy GL right now.

But yeah, definitely drop GL. It's ****. Read GLC instead.

Don't listen to him. Get 'em both.

Corpulent just has a major hard-on for Kyle. He's convinced himself that Hal is boring and has joined the "I Hate Hal Horde".

It wouldn't matter if Hal was the coolest Top Gun who ever lived. It wouldn't matter if he banged every chick he ever met. Forget his cool history with another badass in the DC universe, Green Arrow. And don't even mention that the guy was best friends and partners with Barry Allen. It certainly is boring having one of the coolest origins involving an alien passing on his badge and sword to his successor with his dieing breath in a scene from Peckinpah or Kurosawa. Nevermind his training years where he was tutored by the Green Lantern Corps answer to Mussolini. The man who will turn out to be his opposite and arch enemy from then on. Put aside your memories of his fall from grace after his home was disintegrated. How he turned to the very benefactors that he had served faithfully and with distinction for decades and how they refused to rewrite history. How he rose like the anvil striking the hammer and killed friend and foe alike to seize the power of the Guardians and make the world right in his eyes. Or so he thought. Think nothing of his union with God's servant, The Spectre and his constant quest for vengeance. Put aside his rebirth as we learn that he had been influenced for years by the very embodiment of fear. How it waited for an opportunity to shame the greatest Green Lantern who had ever lived in an Arthurian plot of fear and willpower. How he rose above it all and with the help of his friends and comrades, including Alan Scott the original magical Green Lantern who has nothing but respect and loyalty to Hal, and claimed his rightful place in the Corp.

Forget all that.

The I Hate Hal Horde would have you believe that Hal Jordan is boring. I think mainly because he's not Kyle. He's not Alan. He's not John. Hell, he's not even Guy.

Well he's Hal ****ing Jordan and I think his story and character are very interesting.

I love Hal and Kyle Evenly.I just relate to Kyle more.

Hal being boring is like the 7th thing that makes the GL book sucks.

Yeah, there was such a huge deal made about the Alpha Lanterns, but it turns out they kind of suck.

That one ***** AL got punked by a buncha space dykes. If the whole AL is like that, color me uninpressed.

Although that was before she got her second ring :whatever::whatever::whatever::whatever::whatever:.

And if we're being technical, the Scott lovers and haters were first.

The Hal Lovers have a deep respect for the Scott Lovers and nothing but contempt for the Scott Haters.

Eh, there's nothing wrong with that, I just think that if it were intended to be read that way, the story would've just been a graphic novel. I mean, that's the whole point of a graphic novel as opposed to a comic book--it's meant to be read all in one sitting. Plus, like I said, my impatience factors in as well.
What if the story is made to be a graphic novel, but the publisher (for whatever reason) wants it released in singles? Or even those Prestige format books? That seems to happen quite often.

I haven't heard of that happening too often, to be honest. Usually it's the other way around--a writer has a big story in mind, but the prevalence of the trade market has the publisher telling them to write it with incremental breaks so it can be split into trades. It's not as big an issue anymore since that's now the norm for the industry, but back in the early '00s a lot of stories suffered for it.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I mean. What do you do in those cases?

Y'know, personally, I don't care. While you make a good point that comics should be enjoyable enough when read in single issues, I think you're kinda making it overly complicated. I mean, a good story is a good story; it shouldn't matter if you read it all at once or over the course of 6 months.

Call me a purist, then. It's just a matter of preference: I prefer to read the individual issues as they're released. If a writer's writing a story that literally isn't enjoyable in that format, I think they should be writing graphic novels instead of monthly comics.
