The Review from Zero Hour
Ok, so it was scheduled to begin at 11am GMT but a couple people were late so it didnt start till about 11:20am.
Stephen Chow had a few words before it began, he said he was pleased with what was made and he hoped we would all enjoy it.
They were very strict on outside information this time. They would only like five people from the sound department see it. They dont want to show it to many people if they can help it, they are more aware of people giving outside information now withproblems in the past.
I was given the application form at the start and we wrote notes whilst the movie was running so we had to hand them back when the movie was over so i cannot show that.
This is the last screening of the movie, so onto the review.
Yesterday i finished watching the end of the Piccolo sagas so i could give the movie a fair comparison. The movie was 101 minutes WITHOUT credits or the opening logo.
Right from the opening show the visual style is great, very vibrant and anime like and thats thanks to Hyrbride who have worked on 300 and Sin City.
Now there was alot of action in this movie more so than most comic book adapations though most are short bursts of action rather than big epic scenes (except for the major fights).
There was Goku vs Gohan, The student's, Roshi, Yamcha, Piccolo, Mai, Piccolo. Along with Roshi vs Piccolo and Mai vs Chi Chi.
But the main fights are Goku vs Piccolo and Roshi vs Piccolo thats the big scenes.
There was a lot of comedy with Roshi easily being the funniest, though Goku and Bulmas interactions were at times funny.
The story was different in a few aspects but it kept the overall plot of the Goku and Lord Piccolo sagas.
The dialogue was alright for the most part Piccolo and Roshi has some great lines, whereas Chi Chi had some pretty cheesy lines and sometimes a few corny lines from Yamcha and Mai had like one line. But its what you would expect in this type of movie.
Justin Chatwin played a good Goku who is pretty dumb and loveable and he still loves to fight. The line "Im not ready for this" was not in the movie.
Bulmas character was similar to her anime counterpart except shes a little bit more eager to get in on the action.
Yamcha doesnt have that much of a role he appears in the desert and traps Goku, Bulma and Roshi in an attempt to steal there ride and this causes a short fight between Goku and Yamcha which Goku wins easily. But once he see's the beauty of Bulma he is instantly smitten and follows them on there journey. He is more of a Bandit than a Warrior.
Piccolo was amazing he sounded like Darth Maul and he was the strong no nonsense warrior like in the anime, James Marsters played that role to perfection.
Roshi wasnt perverted, instead he was more cheeky such as touching Bulma's bum, and caressing his thigh though he was the funniest in the movie, i expect everyone to like him.
Chi Chi was pretty annoying and the worst thing about the movie and her little subplot could have been cut out.
Sadly Shenlong wasnt that spectacular he comes out of the Dragon Avatar and is hald covered in smoke however what did make me laugh was the dramatic music bringing in the all powerful Dragon for him simply arise and go "....what".
Sadly im running out of room so i shall have to brief now. The movie was actually pretty good i throughougly enjoyed it, very entertaining and was great visually. Sadly Chi Chi brings it down a notch and Shenlongs appearance was dissapoinitng.
Im pretty sure people will enjoy it because its a good popcorn flick but it wont be getting any oscars. I would give the movie a 7.5 if you have any questions please go ahead.
