I'm looking around the Hype and I'm SHOCKED at the lack of Vertigo threads of any kind when so many people love the titles!???!

I mean, there's no forum heading for Vertigo, let alone any threads???

So here's the "new" congregation meeting place for EVERYTHING VERTIGO until it becomes so big that we have to break it into sub-threads...

VIVA LA VERTIGO!

Me personally, I got into VERTIGO with "Y:The Last Man!" It's about as spot-on an "adult comic" as I've ever read. I loved reading it so I started giving other Vertigo titles a try.

I picked up "The Exterminators" and I was blown away after issue #1!

Since then I've bought Fables, and I am also a "Johnny come lately" to the world of Preacher - Another book that has BLOWN ME AWAY!

Great idea for a thread. Surprised no one has thought of it before really.

With Vertigo, most of the titles have a finite amount of titles to tell an extended story. Say Preacher, of Y:The Last Man for instance, they all have or had an actually ending point to the series to tell their story. With the movies, can they really do those titles justice with possibly one movie or trying to encompass all of the substance?

I posted this a while back in my Cast A Sandman thread. It's my basic idea for a trilogy based on what was, more or less, Gaimain's logline: The Lord of Dreams realizes that one must change or die, and makes his decision.

The first film is the hardest, because you somehow have to combine the important events from P&N (his capture, but the rest should be avoided, we don't need to see Morpheus going on a quest to find his junk), DH (Lyta Hall and Daniel, Rose Walker, Gilbert, Corinthian #1), and SoM (Lucifer leaving, Loki being set free). I also think that Calliope has to be in there somewhere (perhaps split it up. show her prediciment in the begining and Sandman rescueing her at the end? It has to be in there though). I don't think there's really enough time to deal with Nada, sucky as that is, so Calliope has to make up for her absence (she's also nessecary because of Orpheus). I would also change the apartments line-up as follows: Rose, Lyta, Gilbert, Thessaly, Wanda. I'm still working this one out. I'll write more later.

The seconed movie should open with the Orpheus and Euridice story. It should then go into Brief Lives.

The third movie should open with A Midsummer Night's Dream, go into The Kindly Ones, and end with The Tempest.

Nowhere near as in depth as the comics, but the main story does get across. Unfortunatly, I can't think of any way to bring Hob Galding into the movies. I had the thought that each DVD should contain certian shorts (ie. the first one would have Men Of Good Fortune while the third would have an abridged version of The Wake) in the special features section. Other than that, there just isn't enough time and you really can't make this longer than a trilogy.

My basic idea for the first movie would be to have it start with a mash up of Sleep of the Just and the opening to Calliope. Most of the story would be a combination of The Doll's House, and A Game of You. I think you could actually have Men of Good Fortune as a sideplot with Hob remembering his meetings with Dream over the years. This would lead to the end where Dream frees Calliope, and then meets Hob á la the last scene in Men of Good Fortune. The one thing I haven't figured out is how to deal with Lucifer leaving hell. It's tough.

My cast

Destiny: David Strathairn

Dream: Alan Rickman

Death: Kate Winslet

Destruction: Sean Bean

Desire: John Rhys-Meyers

Despair: Kathy Bates

Delirium: Summer Glau or Christina Ricci

Lucien: Jonathan Pryce

Lucifer: Heath Ledger

Personally, I'd rather see Sandman as an animated HBO series that directly adapts the comics scene for scene. Or, a series of ten movies, each one based directly on each of the Sandman volumes.

As for your cast, I like it, but I think both of your Delerium choices would work better as Death. Kate Winslet's a fine choice, but I just think Glau and Ricci look more Death-like than her.

Also, wouldn't Virtigo count as DC?

I've read a few Vertigo books--V For Vendetta, Hellblazer, 100 Bullets, and Fables. My favorite is V For Vendetta followed by Fables. I haven't read Sandman, Y the Last Man, Transmetropolitan, or Ex Machina but I would like to.

I'm finishing the first TPB of Preacher right now, and it's ABSOLUTELY NUTS!

I can't imagine what kind of reaction it had when it was originally published.

yeah the first vertigo experience i had was all 9 volumes of PREACHER from a friend and it was the best month of reading i ever spent

that was a few years ago but still just amazing

then fables

y: the last man

v for vendetta

and now im getting into 100 bullets and hellblazer

vertigo is the best comic distributer or label whatever you want to call it in existence

that is not saying other labels or companies or whatever are lacking just that vertigo is gold and i have never read anything vertigo that didnt blow my mind

so yeah goooo vertigo

I want a REAL Hellblazer film. Not Keanu with his holy shotgun and for god sake Chas is suppose to be old as John...so many things wrong :csad:

So has anyone been reading Mike Cary's Taker?

It's pretty out there....and profanity-laced.

I love Hellblazer. It's my favorite comic series. I just wish somebody would've made a good film adaption of it.

Keanu? No.

I've still never seen it. :csad: I heard good things from people who haven't read the book, and bad things from comic fans.

I watched it as a Hellblazer fan, and it was terrible. Didn't do the character any justice besides baring his name. I then watched it as just an average Joe, and dismissed it having to do with Hellblazer, and it was more enjoyable.

So is it a good movie? Yes. Is it a good Hellblazer movie? HELL NO.

What about an anthology series of Sandman for HBO or Showtime?

Anyone of you read The Fountain? Great movie companion.
My only Vertigo so far...wana read Y and Deus Ex Machina someday...Vaughan's awesome!

Hehe, I had a sneak peek of his talent from Runaways and some other stuff he did for Marvel. :)
I love his dialogue and plot approach.
