Spoiler Tags is a must in this thread

It's more proffesional looking. :ninja::up:

And please put spoilers in spoiler tags.

Not a good idea to start a thread before March 6th. Trolls and mindless fans will either vote 10 or 1 before watching the film.

some people in here already seen the screening

There have been advanced screenings, Ya' know.

Just edit the original post to say please don't vote or review until you've actually seen the movie.

Okaaaay here's my full review of this.....(reposting frome a few days ago)!

I'm a very recent fan of watchmen and my interest in this movie was more based on curiosity than real excitement. So I went to my premiere last night hoping for a good movie but knowing that I'd be able to sleep that night if it wasn't.........

So let's cut to the chase: that was a pretty good movie, no more, no less !

On the casting side we get solid performances for some (Akerman is not as bad as you might think -smokin' body btw- and Goode is good as Ozy but not subtle enough: [BLACKOUT]you get he's the villain from the start[/BLACKOUT]) but also great ones by the others, the best remaining Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach, very very very badass and nasty especially in [BLACKOUT]the prison scenes[/BLACKOUT]. Morgan rocks as the Comedian too..... .

Visually it's beautiful: the mars scenes are enchanting and Doc Manhattan pleased me although I wasn't too convinced before !

There's violence, that's for sure but it's a very "comic book" violence, very graphic (less than in 300 but still).....it's quite bearable even if it's tough (again, especially [BLACKOUT]in the prison sequence[/BLACKOUT])! There's also a great deal of humor too, with hilarious references: I' ll just mention [BLACKOUT]Ozy's wonderful reply at Nite Owl during the finale :"What do you think I am, Dan ? Just a comic book villain ?".[/BLACKOUT]

The real problems begin with the music; the score by Bates is awesome, I'll get it first time on the release date......but it's a big "no no" to the 60's/80's songs used frequently in the movie, it just ruins the power of some scenes:o:o

And we get now to the main problem of this flick (and that's a pretty big one): it's just.....not powerful enough, not moving enough ! Really, I mean it DO NOT expect the same deal of emotion than in TDK for instance:o; the climax is dull and that's just naming one. [BLACKOUT]In fact, we don't care about the massacre because we didn't have time to care about some of the people killed that we got to know all the way through the GN, like the psychatrist or the street vendor. [/BLACKOUT]The rest of the scenes are average at best. The best part is when [BLACKOUT]Rorschach talks about his investigation on the kidnapped girl...that was my fav' part of the GN and it's even better on the screen, you can litterally see the rage of Kovacs even under his mask[/BLACKOUT]......again, Haley FTW :hehe:! Solid effort about the Doc/Laurie and Laurie/Dan relationships too !

Concerning the direction...well I coudln't help but sayin' to myself sometimes "ooooh seriously Zack, nooo !" [BLACKOUT](especially during the sex scene in Archie....good luck with that:woot:)[/BLACKOUT]the same way I react in front of Bay's typical cliches in his own movies. But all in all that's not too much of a problem, the slow mo is not that frequent (actually the main are in the released clips) and Snyder's improving !

So, what else ??? Well apart that it's very faithful to the GN and that they managed to regroup some scenes to make it shorter by not losing the point nothing else really, the 2H45 fly quickly and I enjoyed it just enough to feel that I'm gonna see it again next week to get a second opinion !

Question: Is Kovacs past explored in as much depth as it is in the comic?

not really......but he remains the best character of the movie !

That's a real shame. But it must be a damn good performance if Rorschach remains the best character even without learning about his past. Can't wait to see this.

we get to see brief clips of his childhood but like I said the main scene about his past is [BLACKOUT]his investigation about the little girl,[/BLACKOUT] awesome scene !

PS: now that I think about it I'm not even sure anymore that there are more scenes than these about his past in the GN!

Kinda a stupid question, but is the scene you mentioned as graphic as in the novel. I mean, do they actually show Rorschach murdering the dogs and splitting their heads open?

I only ask because one of the girls that wants to tag along to the film is a little sensitive and a big dog fan and I just want to know if I should warn her?:o

I'd be more worried about the leg bone. The picture I saw looked terribly graphic. especially as it was a child.

Well, I've already told her it's ultra-violent, but she's still willing to come along. But the dog thing would probably really upset her if it's there. I can't have her mad with me over it. She still hasn't forgiven me for dragging her to Burn After Reading

i heard he does indeed split the dogs heads open and throws them through the window at grice

:o

not that I remember (we only see the dead dogs thrown onto the murderer)......BUT....there's something else that is quite shocking and that involves butcher's knife but for another purpose !:hehe:

you don't remember?! that's for texting in the middle of a movie :hehe: :oldrazz:

^^^ explain

me ???:woot:

Well [BLACKOUT]once Rorschach captures the killer he gets very very pissed off and instead of letting him burn alive like in the GN he gets a butcher hatch and cracks the guy's head open.......several times :woot:[/BLACKOUT]

much apprciated

Yep, it's sounding increasingly like I should tell my friend to give this one a miss:o

I had some grave missgivings before about the film.
But now I've seen it, apart from the odd gripe here and there and with the benefit of knowing there is a longer directors cut on the way I can say hand on heart it's great.
Jackie Earl Haley's Rorschach is easily the best thing about it. The prison scenes are gold.

I've waited a long time to see it. In that time I've run the gamut of feelings from high enthusiasm to "I don't want it made, I'm happy for it just to remain a work of literature" (yeah thats right literature) and back again.
I say again the film is great, not perfect far from it. The plot changes have made me feel ill at ease once or twice.
One of the cast in my opinion robbed their character of depth by being too flipant in delivery.
Some scenes were not given enough gravitas, others too much. Some sadly completely gone. There were one or two moments that could have done without the Slo-mo gizmo.
But the film packs the right amount of emotional punch, has a soul. Does enough to let you know this is an alternate, off kilter and frightening view of the practical reality of Superheroes and masked vigilantism. Has the uproariously funny jet black humour of the novel. Retains the conspiracy mystery and upholds the central tenets of the source material.
I'm inclined to say it's alot similar to the Movie adaptation of Moore's other work V for Vendetta, in that it works well as a film even though some of the original message may be missed.

I'm very much looking forward to the directors cut/absolute version cause I think it'll be much more satisfying.

In the final analysis Watchmen the novel will still be Watchmen and the film is the film.
I think looked at from this point of view we can and should be happy to have both.

A few questions for you: Have you read any of the reviews of the film? If so what's your reaction to them having seen the yourself film? Just curious.

dont exactly have a written out review but this comes close to what i thought.

the way i see it, if you want dead on Watchmen we have the graphic novel or even the motion comic.

if we want an adaptation of the novel then this is it. If we got a movie EXACT replica of the novel then what would we do with the novel? when it hits DVD/BR i will get it because when i read the novel i know for a fact i will want to watch the film and when i watch the film im going to want to read the novel. PB&J if you will. so just enjoy it for what it is(and you will enjoy it:cwink:) and dont waste your time wanting to hate it(which you wont:cwink:).
