Too many draws from United over Xmas meant the small gap there was is very little now. Scrap to the end of the season now.

I see. And I didn't realise today's game was against Southampton. Utd or Arsenal need to put an end to Southampton's run or they are really going to start building momentum for a top 4 finish (which would be deserved).

Corrected for you:woot:

But seriously Sanchez has got to be one of the best signings this season, absolute beast of a player and seems a more consistent player than when he was in Spain. Utter class.

Haha, fair enough! Yeah, Sanchez is probably the best summer buy in terms of performances, perhaps Fabregas/Costa as honourable mentions though. His talents suit Arsenal's quick pass and move game, his pace really has augmented their attack this season. He was effective at Barcelona, but their system doesn't leave enough space for quick players to run into lately, but at Arsenal he gets released into space very often. He's looking great this season.

Di Maria up top today it seems, I hope to see him destroy a full back or two.

Well that was quite possibly the worst first half of football I have seen this season. Dire stuff from both sides. The worst kind of 0-0 so far.

Rubbish half from us attack-wise, Rooney looking miserable now the novelty of playing as a CM has worn off, Di Maria wasteful, a wingback system without wingbacks and Smalling attempting to play as a #3.

It's been pretty drab, but the signs are there. Di Maria as a forward has opened up some options. He's wasted on the left, but when he's playing up front on the right he can run across players and open up passing/shooting opportunities. I think the second half will deliver better final third action...hopefully. That last little passing move at the end was quite good. And on the up side Southampton have looked quite dreary going forward too.

If Shaw drops into LB and the rest of the defense shifts right then they can play a flat back 4 pushing Valencia into RCM...hoping something changes formation wise in the second half. I'm really surprised at Falcao's exclusion to be honest.

We have little on the bench today to make much change in attacking sense. Herrera the only real one, Fallaini if we fancy going long, thats about it. I can see LVG getting some stick for "resting" Falcao if we dont find a goal.

Has he got a knock by chance? Shouldn't be leaving major strikers out otherwise. They are the most likely to be able to change the game from the bench.

Southampton deservedly take the lead, they actually had a shot on goal! 0-1

This back 3 thing erases the midfield completely. Tepid style from United.

Still not a single shot on target. Ducking awful stuff.

LvG channeling Moyes today, same **** with everything going out wide and crap crosses going in.

Terrible match.

I hate LvG today. Hate him. That was one of the most unnecessary displays I have ever seen.

Can't believe the difference in Jose Fonte, I remember he dropped down from The Championship to League One to play for Southampton, thought the lad who came on as sub was pretty superb as well. Perfect away display by Southampton really.

ADM wasn't good today, but he should have never been played that close to goal. Carrick and the entire defense was ball watching on the goal. Mata missed easy chances. But I don't blame the players today. They were setup to lose. No Falcao even on the bench? 3 at the back again? Shaw as a WB? Blind straight back in? ADM as a striker? ADM is not Robben, he isn't a natural forward.

He's been great this season. A real surprise as you say.

Tadic and Pelle have been great signing's. But we've seen players do it for half a season they''ll need consistency to prove they're very good players and this isn't a one off patch.

This result was coming from the performances of late, a worrying trend we seem to be getting worse with each passing game. Oddly as we seem to get more and more players back from injury.

Players and managers take the blame today. Worse display by both today, not a single shot on goal says it all and LVG leaving out Falcao looked like a risky move and so it transpired to be. I really hope RVP gets some bench time after this, non-existant again.

RvP was good today imo. The problem was the team behind him was not setup to create. The 3-5-2 is useless without Young, and Young isn't even good. He just gets to play a role that he can function in.

Falllen - Aye they will but I really think you have to applaud the likes of Fonte, Davis for stepping up and especially all the various youngsters who seem to come in and be as well drilled as any veteran. Any other club and they'd be playing in the Championship.

Yep and James Ward-Prowse is another one off the Southampton production line. Cracking little player.
