The Penguin The Penguin on HBO - General Discussion

When Magpie started talking I thought about Ms. 'Lee' Quinzel. The voice sounded so similar lol. Having Harley in Reevesverse would be nuts.

Ha! I thought for sure it was Harley Quinn at first myself!

Maybe Barry Keoghan wants an Emmy, and since I don't think Joker will be headlining another solo flick anytime soon, maybe he should just lead (or heavily feature) in an Arkham series. Perfect way to flesh out the Asylum more, its staff (Dr. Quinzel, Dr. Strange, Dr. Sharp, Dr. Milos) and notable inmates (Professor Pyg, Jane Doe, Maxie Zeus, etc.)

I could see that, an Arkham/Joker series along with a Catwoman series would be ideal.

Yeah, after seeing more of Arkham Asylum, I thought 'Can we still get that Arkham series set in the Reeves-verse instead of the DCU?' Give some limited screen time to potential villains who otherwise wouldn't be main players in the films, like they just did with Magpie.

Assuming that still comes to pass. With how well The Penguin has been received, I'm sure someone at WBD will ask Reeves if he wants to do any other shows. But I don't think Reeves is the kind of guy who would just say Yes to anything or push to make more shows if he doesn't want to in the first place. Then again if, like Lauren LeFranc, the right showrunner was picked, I think we could get at least one, maybe two, other shows in this universe. Don't want to dilute the product with too much, after all. We see how that's impacting the MCU shows on Disney+ and how the quality tends to vary.

I hate y’all so much. 😭

arkham is a corrupt institution.

so how deep does it tie into the arkham family?

and is the family still running things?

i wonder if the batman part 2 will reveal all this and how it all connects to bruce?

maybe martha wayne was never mentally ill - maybe like sofia, she knew too much and was placed in arkham under false pretenses to silence her.

Oh, that's definitely what happened. Also, Lauren LeFranc said in that last podcast what happened to Sofia was a direct connection to what happened to Rosemary Kennedy in real life.

God what a messed up story. Just did the Wikipedia deepdive on Rosemary Kennedy

It's one thing for Carmine Falcone to use Arkham Asylum for his own purposes, but it would be a wild reveal to hear that Thomas Wayne had a hand in sending Martha to Arkham to silence her.

IIRC, martha was placed in arkham by her own family, before she even met thomas wayne.

It'll be interesting to see if there are any members of the Arkham family left. If so, they're presumably estranged from Bruce. Hence why his parents appointed Alfred as his legal guardian and not a blood relation.

maybe thomas wayne knew how bad the arkham family was and he was trying to protect martha and bruce from them all this time.

My two cents: now that the entire Falcone family has been butched is time for Bruce to go undercover at the funerals to investigate. Little cameo of Bruce in episode 5 and in the last episode Batman's.

While the series' events have been pretty low-key so far, it's true that the disappearance of the entire family of the guy at the center of attention in the first film may seem hard to avoid. I'm curious to see how the writers will go about leaving Batman out.

In any case, I totally expect to see the police (and probably some familiar faces) show up. Especially as new players are expected to be introduced for the second half of the series.
Of course, there are also the Maroni to get rid of, but I don't think they're much of a threat, since Oz was their only fragile attempt at a comeback after a decade.

I still wonder if there's any sort of opportunity for Gordon to show up, even with probably being relatively new or a rookie to the GCPD at the time?

I don't remember. Did The Batman establish how long Gordon had been with the GCPD at the time?

It did. ;)

Commissioner Savage refers to the “history” they have with Gordon when he joins him in Mitchell's apartment after his murder. Also, Gordon tells Batman he worked on the Maroni case some ten years before the event of the film.
He's definitely a well-established lieutenant at that point.

That said, I don't think we'll see him appear in The Penguin...
But I suppose we can expect to see more of Kenzie and I seem to remember Mackenzie Bock was set to return (rather awkward to have these two with such similar names btw...).

Damn, the amount of people expressing (online, social networks, etc.) how they hate Carmine.... when one thinks about it, this series also did great to Carmine Falcone's reputation as a villain.

Just amped up big time. Will be seen way more menacing/dangerous from now on in any media.
