I just have one thing to say: Mclusky

Any particular album you'd like to recommend or pretty much all of them?

I'm rocking out to Twin Cinema right now and loving it! The first track is too catchy!

is that the one dan bejar sings on?

I have no idea which one he is, so I'm going with Yes. :)

No, the only member's name that I actually know is Neko Case.

It's the first song on the album and it's called Twin Cinema. It's sung by the guy with the slightly stronger sounding voice. I like his voice, whatever his name is.

if you like it- check out Destroyer- it's his solo stuff.

actually i saw you mention Mac a few times- Merge has put out Destroyer's last couple albums.

Edit- otherwise it's Carl Newman. his solo stuff is ok too, but i prefer Bejar.

Cool! Yeah I'm a HUGE Superchunk fan and love Merge Records. I think I've heard the name Destroyer before. Does his stuff sound like TNP or is it different? Thanks for the advice.

his stuff is a little more "baroque rock"- but punk - or something. His lyrics are either really literate and evocative or overbearing, depending on how oyu feel about him. I like'em.
at times he sounds sort of New Zealand-ish, at other times like ...i dont even know what. If you use soulseek i could send you my username. I have everything he's done (all actually purchased- i support the good stuff:)).

Gin Blossoms, New Miserable Experience

I found this album recently on my dusty boxes and played it, just for the heck of it

it sounded dated, it sounded like 12 years ago, it sounded like my first semester of college

but it still sounds great, great songs, great lyrics, great everything

shame that they never did actually put an album better than this one, although they tried

Hey Jealousy was the lead single, and one of the best songs in the album

it sounds way too 90's, but then again, that's the deal sometimes, make enduring time capsules

I give it two thumbs up

I really dig the Gin Blossoms, especially that album, and I love listening to stuff that has a "very 90's" feel to it, it's such a kick, and (normally) doesn't detract from the music or my enjoyment of it. :)

I recommend the bands... "Battlelore", "Demons & Wizards", "Gojira", "Horse The Band", "Machine Men", and "Symphorce" to all.

This is one of my favorite albums, actually. It's a great roadtrip album. Pop that sucker in and drive! Yeah, it sounds a little dated in this day and age, but that's part of it's charm at this point. And the real reason the Gin Blossoms never repeated their success is because they kicked their guitarist out of the band just after they finished recording it for being a hardcore alcoholic. The trouble was, he was the one that wrote pretty much all the songs and gave the band it's defining sound. Shortly after they replaced him, he shot and killed himself. Gin Blossoms are still together and touring and supposedly have a new CD ready for release. I view them as a sort of one-hit wonder band, that one hit being an entire album.

Here's another 90's band. The Alarm. I find their album "Change" to be an absolute masterpiece. Highly underrated and steeped in a musicality that few groups ever manage to achieve. They also demonstrate a diversity on that album along with a maturity in their songwriting that I don't feel they ever topped before they broke up (the follow up album, "Raw", isn't nearly as good). An outstanding listen if you've never heard it.

saying that Linkin Park was in bad taste?

to be honest, I have heard a couple of songs they've made that I actually like, but the overall vibe of their music just leaves me with a lot to be desired, specially due to the overtly formulaic manner of the band

guitar player, check
bass, who might we add, was added after the recording of the first album, check
drummer, check

here's where it gets interesting

DJ, you know, just to appeal to the hip-hop audience, check
rapper/producer/songwritter/guitar and keyboard player that has far more potential doing any of the other things more than the first, but that does the rapping thing just to identify with the angry teenagers that might be into the whole "rap metal" thing, check

skinny, screaming from the top of his lungs, tattoo filled, nerdy like singer, just to appeal to the impresionable teenaged girls, check

angst level in the music: very high, check

legitimacy of said anger: none, check

milking the cow dry by releasing the same two albums TWICE, check

now you see why I just don't like them?

granted, a lot of people belive they wanna milk the fans for their cash, and yes..mike is better than all of them hands down but..

they do it for their fans. thers no question.
they created a fund for the tsunami victims, have contest for people to wina scholarship to art schools and their music is based of letters written to them about kids' problems and such.

mike is a great rapper and that was ahis first gig. hes also releaing a collaboration with his friends of old november 22nd.

but fine. your opinion is yours of course. and at least you supported your dislike. just no more rolleyes noobishness

And that's really not one of their better songs, IMHO. Check out "Black Sun" or "Devolution Workin' Man Blues" or "No Frontiers" off the "Change" album.
