Yeah, "Sixty-Eight Guns" is really damn cheesy. Good song, but it's cheesy as hell. The stuff off "Change" doesn't have that cheese factor (mostly).

Hey, thanks, btw. Glad you enjoyed it. The electronica is kinda fun. I'll take a Funki Porcini comparison anyday! :) Did you check out any of the blues stuff?

Okay, to get back on topic, here's another blast from the past: The Black Crowes. One of my favorite bands of all time. Chris Robinson's got soul like no white boy should be allowed to. They're just a great, solid blues-rock band and when they broke up to pursue separate projects I was bummed. They recently got back together again and are touring and, rumor has it, are working on a new album. There are some great Crowes albums to choose from. Their debut album, "Shake Your Moneymaker" is just awesome. "Twice As Hard", "Jealous Again", "Hard To Handle", "She Talks To Angels". So many great singles, and there's not a bad song on the entire album. The old standby, of course, is "The Southern Harmony And Music Companion". That album really solidified them as legitimate, with tunes like "Remedy", "Black Moon Creeping" and "Sting Me". However, if you've never had a chance to listen to some of their later work, I'd like to recommend 1999's "By Your Side". It's an eclectic album that really shows a lot of maturity in their song writing when compared to their older works. They're a band that's learned from their past, good and bad, and evolved themselves into something even better. There really isn't a bad song on the album, but the ones that stick out for me are "Go Faster", "Kickin' My Heart Around", "Horsehead", "Heavy" and "Go Tell The Congregation". It's unapologetic blues-rock with a lot of heart. :up: :up: :up: :up: :up:

Yep. When everyone was doing Hair Metal and Grunge, these guys were doing good old-fashioned blues based rock and roll in the vein of The Rolling Stones, Humble Pie and Faces at a time when that kind of stuff was out of fashion...and being SUCCESSFUL at it! :up:

You guys should check out The '89 Cubs. They're kind of a throwback to 90's indie pop/rock with some noisy guitars, time changes and lots of crazy bits thrown in there. They're an Omaha band made up of members of The Desaparecidos, Bright Eyes, The Good Life and the touring sound techie for Cursive. The album's called "There are giants in the earth" and it's released by Slowdance Records out of Portland, OR. Great music made by really nice guys. The drummer, Matt, is a huge comic geek like us and works at my favorite comics shop in town here, Krypton Comics. :cough: plug :cough: You can download a couple of their MP3's from the Slowdance website here. it's really great, I was just checking it now, I downloaded it whole in less than an hour and let me tell you something

it's really worth the buy

thery just got signed.
and not to be a whiny indie geek-
but i actually liked their first stuff a little better than the sub pop stuff.
the sub pop stuff seems really weird EQ-wise, and really compressed.
the songs are still good though.

That's because Sub Pop has a tendency to put their stamp on the sound of all the bands they represent. They've always done that, even when they were a very small label.

yeah, that band was way much better back when they weren't doing gigs and just playing in the garage

they started loosing it once people started to listen to them

they sold out after their first gig, when there were only 5 persons in the whole club

then they got 20 people to see them and it went downhill from there



that's the ultimate indie creed

yeah- that's why i sorta wish someone else had snatched htem up. I'm listening to the old stuff right now and it's just so much more "rambunctious" and noisey.

I like the sub pop sound- but im not sure if it's a good fit for these guys.

p2p program, most of the music I've reviewed here, I got from soulseek

although download music like there's no tomorrow, I do recommend and favor supporting high quality artists, here's my method

somebody tells me about an album or band that I should be checking, I look for it and download it, after a few listens, if I am satisfied with the product, I go and buy the whole album

if I only like less than half of the songs on the album, I keep the good songs, serves the artists for making half assed attempts

it maybe be flawed, but it has increased my collection greatly
