The PLASmatic Music Recomendations

I'll add something different to this conversation, yet again. I've been listening to quite a bit of Peppino D'Agostino lately. I had the opportunity to see him perform live awhile back (he was opening up for Eric Johnson, who is just an amazing musician and live performer in his own right) and was just absolutely blown away. D'Agostino is an absolute, World Class acoustic guitarist. His plays with a lot of finger picking in his style as well as a lot of percussiveness, and his speed and dexterity on an acoustic fretboard is just remarkable. He's one of those guitarists that can make his instrument sound as if there are four or five different guitarists all playing at the same time, plus a small rhythm section. I had a chance to meet him after he played and he signed one of his CD's for me. Peppino was a very nice Italian guy who spent far longer talking to me about New York than he probably should have while people waited behind me to meet him since both of our wives are from Manhattan. I highly recommend him if you can find any of his music. :up:

I'd like to recommend The Decemberists...and more specifically thier album Picaresque.
 
Larrikin Love

A great new band from the UK. They have a sound similar to the likes of The Libertines, Babyshambles Rzorlight etc. There are a few streaming songs at the link above. I recommend 'Six Queens' and 'Happy As Annie'.

I feel their previous albums were far better, Picaresque is pretty good though.
 
The Darkness are ok...they're just too over-rated especially in england.

They were just played TOO damn much.

I loved their first album when it originally came out. But then I realised how truly awful they are. In my opinion, of course.

Yeah. I hope the new album is good. I just saw the cover art... pretty nice looking.

I went to see Bell Orchestre last Thursday, and they put on a damned good live show. Before the show, the only songs I had heard were the ones up on their website which are all quite serene and mellow. They're good, and I like them, but their live show was fantastic. They have great energy onstage and I was exposed to a lot of their more upbeat tunes.

If you get a chance to see them live I'd strongly urge you to do so. Their violinist is Sarah Neufeld, from Arcade Fire.

today I am blown away, this is another album I am getting this weekend

it sounds kinda like progressive rock with an indie attitude, but without the blown-out-of proportion arrengements and maze-like structures

just very well executed instrumentation, subtle arrengements, catchy melodies, and crearly an attitude of not taking themselves too seriously

very recommended

by the way, I did a search and Archangel seems to be the only user who likes them

Minus the Bear is ridiculously talented.
 
I recently picked up Bloc Party's cd, Silent Alarm. Now, I can't stop listening to it. It's kind of like "strumming guitars with purpose" instead of the regular strumming 2 chords that a lot of bands do. The singer keeps melody, and the drums are always busy, and they drive the songs imo. The bass is solid, nothing too fancy, nothing to s**tty. All in all, the album is outstanding.
 
So I picked up Madonna's new album, Confessions On The Dancefloor...Not bad at all. I slipped it into my car stereo on the way back and I couldn't help bopping my head to the beats. It's a great dance album, if you're into club music and just having fun with the music.

I'm not too big on Madonna, though I'm pretty familiar with her songs but I respect her as an artist. So far, this is the first CD I've brought of her's.

Two More Years and Hero are good songs too
 
Banquet, Helicopter and Like Eating Glass are my favourites from that album.

I downloaded a song called Skeleton that I guess was a b-side on one of their 7" singles and it's really good. Man, even their b-sides rock. Always New Depths, the b-side on the Helicopter single is excellent as well.
 
Okay, I'll offer up two listening suggestions for ya'll today. Both are blues-rock oriented and use a power-trio line-up for the most part.

Chris Duarte. An Austin based guitarist who is probably the only player I've heard that deserves any sort of mention when it comes to picking up the mantle left behind by the passing of the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughn. Forget the pretty boys like Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepard. This guy is the real deal and has got some major chops. I've seen him perform live and was absolutely blown away. He played before Blues Traveller went on at a festival I attended and Blues Traveller simply could not compete with the show he put on, even though they were the headliner. Well worth checking out.

Gov't Mule. These guys have been around for awhile but they still never fail to impress. Their studio and live recordings are both equally impressive. Warren Haynes is one of the most creative and able guitarists working today and I love his work in Gov't Mule much more than what he ever did with the Allman's. They recently added a Hammond B3 organ player to the mix, breaking their traditional power-trio approach, but it really fills out the sound. If you've never heard their stuff, you're in for a treat.

Madonna's best albums are Like A Prayer and Ray Of Light, bar none
