Not broken up. Touring right now, i think, or this summer anyway, new album out next year. Thom has his own thing coming out this summer...it's actually out now, tho, if you feel so inclined. and it's really really good. so far anyway. like really.

has anyone picked up the new sonic youth album, "rather ripped", yet? i listened to a few songs off it that they have on their myspace page and it sounds pretty good. it's wierd, they actually sound pretty poppy, or at least as poppy as sonic youth can get. a couple of the songs are very bouncy and fun. not bad. how's the rest of the album?

for me i think the Boredoms can make some of the most astoundingly aggressive music.

i've never found another soul who knew the Boredoms nor could tolerate them for that matter-their music seems to me like it's from another planet!

start to listen in chronological order, it'll help you understand better the evolution of the band

Pablo Honey
The Bends
OK Computer
Kid A
Amnesiac
Hail To The Thief

if you want more specific songs, it will be more difficult, mostly because each Radiohead fan has different "favorite tracks"

OK COMPUTER changed my life

Normally I'm a rocker, but recently I've really liked the Gnarls Barkley album and the most recent Imogen Heap album

the song "crazy" is pretty good

Download "Smiley Faces" its another good one. And the video for Crazt is pretty cool. It's this constantly morphing Rorscach pattern.

how can people NOT like the boredoms....or melt banana for that matter.

because it's kinda avantegarde-you gotta be able to appreciate new and different things-it's hard for most of the people i knw who have very definate music tastes

I know it's been out for a little while, but I just snagged the new Eagles Of Deathmetal album and have been enjoying the hell out of it.

cool, i just sent you guys a friend invite.

I've also been listening to The John Mayer Trio album "Try!" quite a bit, lately. He's a decent guitarist but won't be winning any guitar hero awards anytime soon. He's trying an awful lot to sing like Stevie Ray used to (can't fault him for that, SRV was a highly underrated vocalist), but it's great to see an artist trying to use their talent for something more than bubble-gum pop. I'm not a fan of Mayer's previous solo work, really. I could take it or leave it. But, this stuff of his I really enjoy and I hope he continues playing in this vein as he shows a lot of promise. There's some surprisingly mature songwriting and musicianship coming from him on this album (not to mention he's got a couple of GREAT studio guys to work with).

Yeah, he really lets loose with some great blues chops when you see him live.

Of course, I like his one bubble gum pop song "Daughters", I guess I'm just a big softy that way.

the lovely feathers are pretty good, but all the "indie" bands are starting to melt into a single sounding band to me.
If you don't know about "wheat" , then you're not alone. but it's a good band that has some slow enjoyable songs.
I don't think I've read anyone recomend the Eels yet, "e" is a musical genius and makes heartbreaking and uplifting music all at the same time and souljacker (album before their last) packed a punch sledom seen or expected from them.
did I tell you I love "tahiti 80" with a passion, and have done so, ever since they came out? they play nice little pop tunes, with a guy that can actually pull off a falsetto without inducing laughter.
"Pram" was recomended to me by maxwell's demon some years ago, and he said that they sounded like " a winding road to an old seclude cottage" but don't pay too much mind, because Max is from brooklyn and there's no cottages there.
for some Hip Hop action, head over to the hype machine and get the new "danger Doom " album LEGALLY, yes, they are letting their fans download their new EP for free. much love to my *****z!
while you're at the hype machine, get Animal collective's version of nirvana's "polly" you'll thank me or hate me, either way I don't care because I have a ton of chocolate ice cream and I love all.
stephin merritt is a musical talent that has like 10 bands that all sound the same. yet they are all unique in their way what shines about Merritt is his writting and the songs are rich and thick like ...like...a rich thick stephin merrit song if it was a mug of hot chocolate.

with marshmallows.

damn I'm hungry. :(

i really dig wheat. there sound is really amazing.

i've seen you mention tahiti 80 several times now and i know i've heard at least one of their songs in the past and i remember really liking it. i should check them out.

i love that danger doom album. have you listened to any "gnarles barkley"? i think danger mouse is part of that duo. should be good.

you should really check out chin up chin up's album "we should have never lived like we were skyscrapers". it's amazing, trust me.

you'd probably like the figurines, also.

definitely check out the islands. it's made up of former member of the unicorns and they're amazing and catchy.

i'm really digging on the new sonic youth album, "rather ripped". it's easily the poppiest i've ever heard them. i'm glad they're proving they can evolve and still retain their creativity.

I got a question for y'all.

I'm looking for some more jazz stuff--classic and modern stuff.

Any recomendations?

for jazz you could try picking up the soundtrack to a movie called Cowboy Bebop-it's just a selection of really cool japanese and english jazz tracks.Something I really like atm is the John Spencer Blues Explosion and if you want something just silly, fun and modern you could try Stereo Total-i recommend I Love You,Ono or I Am Naked

I know about Cowboy Bebop--one of my favorite animes. :)

Thanks for the artists, I'll definately check them out.

It's really good. They got rid of all the noise thats probably why it sounds poppy. The only bad thing is Kim sings on most of the songs.:(

yeah, but kim's voice seems to have gotten better. she's not yelling or grunting anymore, she's actually learned to sing a bit. i really like it. i'm going to see them and the flaming lips in august. can't wait!
