The Political Books Thread

No, its an allusion to your brilliant posting style (its the Drudge Flashing Alarm of the Hype).

It is, however, a more-than-slight mocking of Jimmy Carter.

HAS ANYONE SEEN THE SALES FIGURES FOR THE 'JOE THE PLUMBER' BOOK? It was supposedly released on December 1st. I'm just curious.

:cmad::cmad: If you don't have the link at the bottom, it just doesn't work. :cmad::cmad:

I should probably edit that post. There was no link. I was asking if anyone had seen the sales figures...because I have not seen them.

ROVE VOWS TO 'NAME NAMES' IN BOOK
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/12/08/rove-vows-to-name-names/

Enemies of President Bush take heed: Karl Rove is set to name names.

The man widely credited with Bush's two presidential victories says his new book will include an accounting of those in Washington who never accepted the president as a legitimate commander-in-chief.

"I've got behind-the-scenes episodes that are going to show how unreceiving they were of this man as president of the United States," Rove told Cox News in an interview published Sunday. "I'm going to name names and show examples."

Rove signed a deal with publishing giant Simon & Schuster last year, reported be worth over $1.5 million.

In the wide-ranging interview, Rove also suggested the criticisms the president and his aides took were partly because they were not part of the Washington establishment.

"You'll notice there was outrage when it was thought that I was the person behind outing Valerie Plame. And then when it came out that it was the sainted [Deputy Secretary of State] Richard Armitage, there was no interest," Rove said. "I don't remember seeing anybody camped out on his doorstep like they were camped out on mine. [It's]because he was part of the acceptable culture of Washington, and I was not. I was one of those Texans who came up. He was one of those perpetual I'll-scratch-your-back-if-you'll-scratch-mine Washington leakers. "

GONZALES TO WRITE 'TELL ALL' BOOK
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/12/31/gonzales-to-write-tell-al_n_154425.html

Alberto Gonzales, who has kept a low profile since resigning as attorney general nearly 16 months ago, said he is writing a book to set the record straight about his controversial tenure as a senior official in the Bush administration. In his interview with the paper, the disgraced appointee expressed frustration that "for some reason, I am portrayed as the one who is evil in formulating policies that people disagree with."

"I consider myself a casualty, one of the many casualties of the war on terror," he added.

Apparently, the book's publication has already hit a few snags.

Mr. Gonzales, 53 years old, doesn't have a publisher for his book. He said he is writing it if only "for my sons, so at least they know the story."
The chapters on the Bush administration's surveillance program, which involved eavesdropping without court warrants, and other controversial aspects of his work, remain blank. That is in part because he remains under investigation regarding allegations of political meddling at the Justice Department.

So...is anyone going to head out and buy Ann Coulter's new book on the 6th? :hehe:

Not even if every store in my hometown runs out of toilet paper

Good political books I read this year and highly recommend:

Plan of Attack
by Bob Woodward

Truman
by David McCullough

Dreams from My Father
by Barack Obama

I know reading the last one in 2008 is late, but it was still a great read and very insightful.

Is it called "My **** Has Teeth: Confessions of a Succubus?"

LOL!

Y'know, It wouldn't be so funny if she wasn't such an obvious unstable psychopath. Anyone see that YouTube video of her that was taken from Fox news that shows how her eyes roll and move out of sequence? It was creepy as hell.

LAURA BUSH MEMOIR DEAL SEALED WITH SCRIBNER
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/05/laura-bush-memoir-deal-se_n_155241.html

First lady Laura Bush has sealed a deal worth millions with Scribner to publish a memoir that will encompass her recollections of personal and historical moments, including her eight years in the White House.

The publishing house, in announcing the agreement on Monday, said the memoir is expected to be released in 2010. Sally McDonough, first lady Laura Bush's press secretary, declined to say how much Bush is being paid for the book but past deals involving first ladies have carried multimillion-dollar payouts.

McDonough said the first lady would work with a collaborator though one hasn't been selected yet.

"As a rare witness to the private moments of one of our country's most consequential presidencies, and as a first lady who has maintained a notable level of discretion, her memoir will provide a candid and personal perspective, and an enduring record, of the years that have already determined the course of the 21st century," said Susan Moldow, executive vice president and publisher of Scribner.

Moldow negotiated the book deal with Washington attorney Robert Barnett, whose many clients include former President Bill Clinton, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Sen. Edward Kennedy. Nan Graham, vice president and editor in chief of Scribner, will edit the memoir.

At least $8 MILLION!?!?! :wow:

COULTERS 'TODAY SHOW' APPEARANCE CANCELLED
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/05/ann-coulters-today-show-a_n_155393.html

Coulter appeared on CBS's The Early Show where she told anchor Harry Smith that he was her favorite for having her on this morning after The Today Show had canceled her. Smith allowed Coulter to rant, but then pushed her on claims of right-wing victimization and urged her to "take a breath." He also called her "goofy" and "sophomoric."

This is also a clip included in the article.

Oh...and :lmao:

If people would stop feeding the attention ****e, she would go away.

As for her CBS appearance, Harry Smith should have handed her a box of kleenex during her rant

COULTER'S 'TODAY SHOW' APPEARANCE RESCHEDULED
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/05/ann-coulters-today-show-a_n_155393.html

Coulter appeared in the 7 AM hour of "Today" Wednesday morning, and Matt Lauer opened the interview by acknowledging "this little controversy."

When Lauer asked whether Coulter was behind the report that she was banned for life from the "Today" show, she responded, "I didn't say that. That was from a reliable news report that, by the way, has never had to retract a report on exploding GM trucks...like NBC."

Coulter then told Lauer, "It apparently took the 'Today' show eight hours to remember that there was a Wednesday show that I could be invited back to."

"We traded you out for Tony Blair yesterday," Lauer said, accusing Coulter of drumming up controversy to sell books. "And I think that's a pretty good switch."

Coulter making stuff up to promote herself? I don't believe that for a second!

:whatever:

"We traded you out for Tony Blair yesterday," Lauer said, accusing Coulter of drumming up controversy to sell books. "And I think that's a pretty good switch."

Owned. :woot: Well said Mr Lauer.

Harry Smith is just being a ***got.

Does this mean you have to go to rehab?

ELIZABETH EDWARDS NEW BOOK TO ADDRESS JOHN'S AFFAIR
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/03/elizabeth-edwards-to-addr_n_163476.html

Elizabeth Edwards is releasing a short memoir titled "Resilience," Fox News reports, in which she will address her husband's affair with a campaign videographer.
Edwards insiders are wondering if "Resilience" will be a tell-all, tell-some, tell-none, or an exercise in denial. The Broadway Books catalog says Edwards has written "an unsentimental and ultimately inspirational meditation on the gifts we can find among life's biggest challenges."

The usually private Elizabeth Edwards, I am told, is definitely including her take on the relationship in her new book. Her publicist says she will be addressing John's "affair and how she experienced it."

John Edwards admitted to the affair in August 2008, months after ending his presidential campaign. His mistress, Rielle Hunter, made a series of short videos of the former Senator for his pre-announcement leadership PAC, the One America Committee. Edwards met Hunter at a bar in New York. She had little experience in film before taking the job, and the video footage was taken offline when Edwards announced his candidacy.

When the affair came to light, Elizabeth Edwards wrote on the blog Daily Kos that her husband "made a terrible mistake."
