It's a strange thing, everytime I see an image of this movie or even read the title, I wanna see it again. It's definately one of my favorites.

Weird to see this thread pop up when I re-watched this movie for the 100th time the other day, and I love it as much as the first time.

Yeah I havent watched this one in a while, one I always enjoy when I watch it though, love the ending.

I need to watch this again. Worthy of Blu Ray I say. I actually liked it a little better than Memento, that's an excellent film, but this... wow. Nolan truly is a magician of film.

The Prestige is Nolan's unsung masterpiece. It is an immensely clever film that rewards the keen observer while shocking and surprising the casual viewer. I have seen that Nolan's films have a tendency to be a lot more intellectually stimulating than they are emotionally satisfying. The Prestige in this regard is more like watching a brilliant science experiment unfold right in front of your eyes. Its rather cerebral tone may distance audiences and not engage your feelings like a work of art would, but at the end of the day you are still left completely mesmerized and amazed by what you've just seen.
I dunno, the virtuoso storytelling is certainly cerebral, but I think Nolan also manages to stage shots that are pretty visceral. I always get a chill down my spine during the last voiceover and the camera moves to the nearest tank...then the film cuts to black.

the movie is just good. its that simple.

thanks for the bump. i will watch it again this week.

Yes, but when was the last his films had a truly moving scene in them? The only ones that stand out are the endings of Insomnia and The Dark Knight, and even they aren't anywhere near on the level of something like Schindler's List or The Shawshank Redemption in terms of raw emotion. His films generally have more 'mind' than 'heart'. Nolan falls in that category of great filmmakers whose work may not bring a tear to your eye but will give your brain one hell of a workout. I haven't seen many of Kubrick's films save for The Shining, 2001, Full Metal Jacket and Dr. Strangelove, but in my estimation he too falls in that same category.

I agree there. But he still can bring emotion to his actors. But either are just as good as the other.

This thread getting bumped has reminded me that it's been far too long since I've watched this film.

Good. Now go watch it again. And again. And then another time after that. :brucebat:

Man I love this movie. :woot:

I'll have to watch it again myself, it's been about a year now. The sound on the Blu-ray is fantastic, especially Tesla's machine.

I'm not a fan of movies set in old times but I did find myself enjoying The Prestige I guess because of the solid acting of Bale, Jackman and Caine.

I didn't know Hugh Jackman was an actor until I saw this movie. While it deviates quite a bit from the book, I enjoyed it equally. Both work in their own ways. I know there are some that find the ending a little too fantastical (even though the book goes even farther in that aspect) and at first I did too, I was thinking Angier was using a double again, because I didn't want to believe the machine actually worked, but that's pretty much falling into the same trap Angier did when he was trying to figure out how Borden did his trick.

^This is the movie that re-newed my faith in Jackman after X3, He gave a great performance in it.

This film is Nolan's masterpiece. I can watch this over and over and will always love it. Bale's amazing, Jackman's best performance, Wally is beautiful, TESLA, the mind tricks, the script's layers, Rebecca Hall's performance, the subtle clues and hints...

Every time those last 10 minutes just give me goosepumps and joy. Such a beautiful film, that needs more love.
