The Princess and the Frog

he looks like a light skinned black guy to me... or least passable. Sure he doesn't have the average black males hair... but hey... maybe he's got a weave? lol.

doesn't he have a middle-eastern name? naveen?

Yeah, based on the movie's IMDb page the prince's name is Naveen and the princess is Tiana, of course. Regardless of the ethnicity, the two make a very cute couple and I think this will be a great movie for children to see.

Is anyone going to be at San Diego Comic Con? They released the schedule last week and there will be a Disney Animation Panel!

" •ANIMATION PANEL — Animation legends Hayao Miyazaki and John Lasseter join veteran animation directors Lee Unkrich, Kirk Wise, Ron Clements and John Musker on Fri., July 24 at 12:45 p.m. for an animation panel which will highlight upcoming animated films, including Disney•Pixar’s TOY STORY/TOY STORY 2 double feature, Disney•Pixar’s TOY STORY 3, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ half-hour holiday TV special PREP & LANDING, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG and Miyazaki’s PONYO. John Lasseter will host the panel and Patton Oswalt will moderate a group Q&A following the presentation, which will include filmmaker insights, trailers and select film sequences."

Guys, I haven't read the previous posts, my first post in this thread.

AND I'M NOT TRYING TO BE A RACIST???

Um...it takes place in the past and in Lousiana from the looks of it. If your referring to the accents/jive or slang I don't see a problem and your making something out of nothing.

historical accuracy is not stereotypical....... :o:whatever:

I am sure that is not the intention of the film. I think they wanted to have the film in a new, culturally rich location and that is why New Orleans worked. I am sure character in the film will be of "Cajun" decent.

I just recently saw the theatrical Trailer for this film and is it me or did they change the classic story to something totally different? I don't ever remeber there being two frogs in the story. Disney has never really drastically changed the story before.

LOL Yes they did. They're Disney.

New test footage...

Little Mermaid had constant pain equivalent to "dozens of knives in her feet" anytime she walked or danced; The prince never fell in love with her; And then she dies at the end, turns to sea foam, and then will become a wind sprite fairy thing after 100 years as the sea foam, because according to the story, merpeople have no souls.

Sleeping Beauty doesn't meet the prince until 100 years into her slumber; Maleficent(Karabosse in the original) only appeared at the birth in the beginning; No dragon makes an appearance at any point, nor does any battle.

Belle had sisters that wanted the Beast to eat her alive so they can live in royal luxury; There was no Gaston-like character or mob storm upon the castle. Beast did not act like a 'monster' so to speak.

I like the Disney adaptations, but to say they don't change the tales drastically, is clearly false.

And Hercules was half human because Zues had a thing for infidelity and bangin' mortal women. Not to mention Herc kills first wife & kids, performs 12 labors (some of which were given nods in the montages) is trained by a centaur named Chiron, not a Satyr named Phil & Hades is actually a pretty stand up guy who does him a solid.

Also, in Tarzan, Terk is a male Ape named Terkoz who tries to rape Jane and is therefore killed by Tarzan who is something of a murderous, thieving racist in his youth.

Yeah Disney changes every fairytale-film adaptation to (1) make it family friendly, and (2) give us a twist as most know the fairytales

Plus princess Jasmine in Aladdin was Chinese and snotty and stuck up, and the story was set in China, plus Aladdin had a magical ring, there were no personified carpets, Abu or Parrot, or even Jafar... plus he's no orphan

and the genie gave infinite wishes, at least depending on which version you read

I don't foresee too many changes being made in this movie from the story. With these classic stories there are always a couple different versions floating around, so it is hard to truly know which one is the "original".

Also, I highly doubt there was a mother****ing talking grandma tree in Virginia back in the Pocahontas days.

...what exactly is an avergae black males hair-type?

o wow, oak i haven't seen you around in forever!

well... it's kinda common knowledge people of african decent do not grow straight hair... which Prince Naveen has.

Um, not always true. But Naveen is clearly meant to be of Cajun descent, so, that's pretty much kills the "nappy hair" issue.

he's not of Cajun descent. he's visiting New Orleans. (i've seen the movie)

and it's very very much usually true. I've never seen a black man with strait hair.
