The Prisoner

I came by an article today saying Canada got to see the 60s Prisoner one month before it premiered in the UK. What is ITV airing now? Seems kinda lame to air it next year when it could've easily premiered today.

Pff, dont get me started on ITV. They've been in serious trouble for years now, the only programs that make them any money (so therefore they make more of) is reality shows. So tonight we had 1 hour of X-Factor followed by an hour of I'm A Has-Been Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here. :o

still mad Nolan wasnt able to make his movie...

He can still make it but probably not until 2015.

Instead of The Prisoner we get Inception and a 2.5 hour movie wouldn't be long enough to do it justice.

So far so good. A few slow moments but its got me hooked and I'll be seeing it through. Love the universe they've created here and the mystery. McKellan adds another signature role to his resume.

1. I'm a prisoner for Hayley's cleveage!

2.That was a weird episode at the end. I"m not sure if this could ever be considered good cause the ending has to make some kind of sense. Considering how many times this has been referenced, I'm not sure what ending would be satisfactory.

I can't even watch this. AMC HD is ****ing terrible.

So is the 3-night miniseries the entire thing, or is AMC hoping this will be the kick-off point for a weekly series?

Just a mini-series, its always been envisioned as a mini-series when the Brits started developing it in 2005. The original Prisoner was only 17 episodes, I don't think the concept could go 50 or 70 episodes.

Its a joint venture with ITV, plus the mini-series has an ending that gives answers so it would be difficult to do a series not to mention the cost of doing one in Africa.

Parts one and two re-air tonight on AMC.

I think the people that didn't like the series wanted everything to be the same. From the complaints I've read they didn't like how everyone wasn't referred to with Number in front, how it wasn't Wales, how (Number) Six wasn't a special agent of some kind, how The Village wasn't like the original one...

:whatever:

I liked the changes, I loved the idea of The Village but parts three and four hurt the mini-series. They were too slow and weird. The last episode was great, really well done. Very smart, and requires a second viewing to fully make sense and appreciate it. I think a rewrite of the series mainly on episodes three/four would've benefited it. It did have high expectations, it may have not reached it but still something different than what the networks are putting out.

I'd rather see a remake of The Prisoner or some other landmark series than a remake of Charlie's Angels (ABC) or The Bionic Woman or Knight Rider (NBC).

My problem is, I don't really feel like parts 1-4 really added up to parts 5-6. I'm still not sure why people were so afraid of number 2. I don't really buy Six's decision in the end based on what we saw of him in New York. I felt like he should have retired and took care of her in the real world. Number 2 was at least partially damaged in NY, but Six wasn't. He had no use for the Village.

Like I said. Enjoyed the end, just don't think the preceding parts earned it.

Terrible miniseries IMO. I have way too many unanswered questions. Then again, I didn't see the original series.

Ive had the last 2 eps on my dvr since they aired and still havent watched them. This thing just could not keep my attention at all. Guess Ill give the last 2 parts a try tonite though just to get it over with and see if they are any good

If you like your i's dotted and your t's crossed (:whatever:) I highly reccomend never watching the original series. You wont appreciate it, its rather abstract. As in, it doesnt answer any question it raises. It lets the viewer decide.

So, for you Americano's, without spoiling it, how was the remake as a whole? I've just started seeing adverts for it over here. I'm cautiously optimistic it might retain at least some of the ideas of the original, and the general feel, I dont mind specifics being changed.

Ive still yet to watch the final part but I would say abstract is a perfect way to describe it. Really hard to make sense of just about everything going on, plus I find that all the characters having numbers instead of names makes things very confusing

Unbelievably, this is only going to start airing over here in the UK on Saturday! (Woop Woop!)

Fortunately for me, with my fancy HD box, ITV have finally allowed Sky viewers access to there HD channel as well, so I'll be watching in crisp and clean HD - Awesome! As a side-note, ITV are spacing out the episodes over 6 weeks as opposed to 3 nights, which makes logistical sense even if it is a bit annyoing for the viewer. No matter. I shall let you now how I feel about it as it goes on.

Its aired on AMC multiple times, just aired again a couple of weeks ago. Interested to see how a British audience reacts to it over six weeks instead of three days.

Is this worth purchasing and watching? I've never seen the original or this remake.

It's ok. I didn't really like it much personally but it's definitely different.

I love the original series created by and starring Patrick McGoohan.

The miniseries - well, there is not really much to like in comparison apart from the appearance of Hayley Atwell.

I never get over that fact that between playing Jesus and Mr. Reese, Jim Caviezel was Number Six in the remake...

I guess I kind of liked the show.

I would suggest finding a free copy of the mini series and then decide whether you want to buy it after watching it.
