I dvr'd this movie a while back, and I finally got in the mood to watch it last week. I couldn't believe how good it was?? I remember watching it once when a friend & I rented it in Jr. High, but I didn't remember much of the story.

Considering the low production value it likely had, the effects were impressive. The story was visually haunting, and moved along at a good pace. Also, for 1995, I thought that it took some bold steps, in terms of what was put on screen.

Really good supernatural/apacolyptic flick.

It was very well done. I really liked Viggo as Satan. He has no effects, doesn't hurt anyone; but Virginia Madsen's reactions to him just make you believe in him. Are you an angel? I am the first angel, loved above all others. Just wicked.

I remember liking it in a low budget kinda way. Can't beat Walken doing what he does and the movie was decent

:wow:

Anyway, back to the original. IMO, you can't beat a movie with Elias Koteas in it! He's the consumate supporting player, but in this movie, he gets a share of the lead.

Seriously, first we had him bring our childhood hero Casey Jones to life in TMNT. Then, he appeared in movies like Contact, The Prophecy, and Crash (the Cronenberg version) before a stellar supporting turn in this year's Zodiac.

He interprets the detective character's spiritual struggles well without having to force them out in bad monologues.

Plus, you've got Eric Stoltz in a bad-a cameo basically. You can tell the movie was written & directed by the same person, because there's a personal passion to the movie that a hack like Brett Ratner would have left out.

I liked it. Christopher Walken as a renegade angel? That sounds awesome just typing it.

Walken was awesome in all of these especially the first one.

Poor Adam Goldberg lol

Glen Danzig appeared in one of the movies as a renegade angel too

I don't remember which one

great movies, all of them

That'd be one short angel!
I really do like the movie though, still havn't seen any of the sequels though, I need to get on that.

When you guys say "All of them", are you refering to the first three only, or the recent 4th & 5th ones that were shot at the same time?

the first two were great, the third was nice, haven't watched the others

Viggo ruled that movie he only appeared at the end but stole the show i love the way they make him lonely and hell isnt a place of fire and brimestone but a place where you cant feel gods love is AWESOME the quote at the end "i want you to come home with me" was amazing for me maybe its just because I love these types of movie.

The movie just has an intimate feel to it. You can tell the same person wrote/directed the movie, and probably drew from some religious experience similar to the detective.

Now I'm not saying he really had those visions, and heaven & hell are all whackadoo like that, but I'm saying he seemed to have intimate knowledge and carefulness about what he was creating.

But there are little things about the movie that make it great. Like every time you see one of the Angels waiting for something/someone, they crouch like a gargoyle with 100% balance. Stuff like that makes the movie cool.

Its an okay movie. For me the only reason the movie works at all is because of Walken and Viggo.
