The Raid Remake

Well thank God the remake helped make The Raid 2. I just watched it yesterday

I just dont think the story translates well since there isnt a aw enforcement force in the US that relies on such intricate and masterful martial arts. Not to say that what Marines and such dont know how to fight, but it's kind of in a very different way which wouldnt make for good prolonged fight scenes

I'm glad Kitsch dropped out. I'm not sure I want this movie made anyway, but I do like Grillo so I'd probably give it a shot. But Kitsch is such a buzzkill for me. He isn't bad on TD, but it wasn't enough to keep me watching this season. And he's been pretty much awful in everything else I've seen him in.

Judging by Frank's comments, it sounds like he might be playing the Mad Dog character.

Yeah, it helped pay for Raid 2...which has inferior pacing compared to the first one.

Both Raid movies were great. In terms of translating it to an American or Western European setting, I highly doubt Indonesian cops are trained in all those martial arts either. It's all stylized anyways for action movies, tropes that refer to earlier tropes. With a good cast and the same director (not sure why they would not just go with him, it's not like there's some allergy to British directors) it could work, but I don't like the chances of them doing it right.

I don't get why they couldn't just get Gareth Evans himself to direct a new movie in Hollywood with Frank Grillo starring.

Because that would make too much sense.

I really think the days of remaking movies like these are kinda dead. Espcially remaking British shows..The Office will be the last of its kind because the internet has made the world smaller, hens why the BBC is popular here (finally).

And I have friends who don't watch foreign movies who have seen Oldboy and The Raid movies.

Plus i'm a guy who roots for the underdog. With the Raid, Indonesia finally gets a bulletpoint in film history for having a franchise that's popular world-wide. I don't wanna see the Americans overshadow that with a remake.

Screw it. Wasnt a good idea in the first place and the first 2 were dope enough already. Glad the remake helped make The Raid 2.

Also, with American films, there's more safety precautions, so the fights may have to be watered owned. Not to say that foreign movies will always leave their actors with broken bones, but it's close to it. That's why the fight choreography in foreign films look more..raw than their American counterparts.

Interesting, I'm slowly coming around to the idea. Especially when Joe said this:

If is taking the movie to The Grey level of writing and directing then I'm all for it.

They probably wont but it looks like they're going for the Infernal Affairs/The Departed scenario.

Carnahan is one of Hollywood's most underrated and I love Grillo. Love them both. I just don't see how it works without removing what makes The Raid what it is.

Looking forward to interview

The Raid and The Raid 2 are incredible. I love them to death. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I love Carnahan, but can't i just watch Dredd for a film with a similar scenario. I love The Raid films for their execution. That fantastic action. Still doesn't sound interesting.

I mean... it just sounds like a completely different movie and only a passing resemblence to the original. And they're excuse as to why make it The Raid is kinda stupid.

Love these guys though so we'll see.

Also love how Carnahan pointed out he did the bunch of criminals in a building fighting cops things in SMoking Aces. I mean it's broad strokes and I dont even like Smoking Aces but I never realized it.

Guys.... Just don't make it "The Raid". The talent involved is interesting enough. Just make a film.

I don't understand the point of remaking it. What brand recognition is there in a low-key film series like this? And it has a small but passionate fan base who have no need for a remake. Those films are so good that there is nothing to build on. Best case scenario is you make a good remake. Who really wants their film to be considered "that good american version", when you could make something that stands on its own?

Seriously, I love both those guys but they're not really remaking The Raid here, so it's a little annoying to see them call it that. I'll just stick to my guns and wait for The Raid 3, whenever it comes.

It's helped with getting The Raid 2 made, so it's all good to me.
