I saw there wasn't really a place to discuss the other characters in the Batman mythos like Nightwing, Oracle, Damian, etc.

How would you like to see these characters portrayed, if at all?

Do you want to see a "family man" Batman or the lone wolf ala TDK trilogy?

How can they best incorporate Batgirl, Robin, etc?

Let the discussion begin.

Well, the best way to incorporate Robin (Dick Grayson), IMO, is to have the first film in the reboot series be his origin story.

How I would introduce the Bat-Family (Rough):

-1st Film: Two or three years into career (32 or 33); Dick Grayson (15)

-2nd Movie: Four years later; Dick's last days as Robin; Possibly bring in Batgirl, being influenced by the Dynamic Duo during the 1st film.

-3rd Movie: Five months later; Jason Todd (no origin, 17); possibly doing "A Death In The Family"; Barbra paralyzed; Nightwing introduced

-4th Movie: 1 year later; Batman in a very dark place, flying solo; teams up with Nightwing near the end of the film; Tim Drake introduced (16); possibly introduce Huntress

-5th Movie: Three months later; Tim finally becomes Robin; possibly introduce Batwoman; Barbra becomes Oracle

-6th movie: Final film; Tim is still Robin; unknown to Bruce, Talia gives birth to their child Damian (does not become Robin, only an infant)

This just a rough draft of plot lines.

For me, anyway...

- Dick Grayson: Teenager with similar origin as "All-Star B&R", only he takes the identity of Nightwing instead of Robin; Batman takes him under his wing not so much as a ward but to train him to defend himself since he's marked for death, and the GCPD can't be trusted to protect him. Lives with his saucy spinster godmother Harriet Cooper. Genuinely enjoys himself when he's beating up bad guys; doesn't care to be babysat by Batman but Bats keeps an eye on him anyway.

- Helena Bertinelli: Given up for adoption as infant by a teenaged Selena Kyle (one of the events that led to her becoming Catwoman), taken in by a wealthy mob family which has since tried to go legit - naturally, that aim doesn't work out for them (RAT-A-TAT-A-TAT-A-TAT!). Batman becomes Huntress' mentor in the hope of keeping her from crossing lines that even HE won't. She and Dick are like a brother and sister constantly fighting with each other but at each other's backs when danger calls.

...aaaaaaand that's pretty much good for me. I don't need three different Robins and as many different Batgirls running around. Although I wouldn't be averse to bringing in other DC vigilante heroes to Gotham to fill out the Bat-Family, like Oliver and Dinah as the cool surrogate aunt and uncle that your foster dad is wary of having around. :woot:

I'd introduce a new one every film.

1) The first film would have an established Batman following Robin's origin story, which calls back to Batman's. Grayson would not suit up, officially speaking, but his origin and why Batman decides to train him as an apprentice would all be here.

2) The second film would be years later and Grayson would suit up in an auxilliary position, but not neck and neck with Batman taking down grown men. He might be used in the theatricality, a gaunt scary figure with dark matted hair draped in a blood red coloring. Regardless, girl nerd extraordinaire Barbara Gordon would be a big part of things, and she would be "Batgirl" for Halloween and get shot by Harley or Killer Moth or Joker or Calendar Man or whoever at the party. She would help the team in the end with her computer skills.

3) Batman and Robin would have their falling out. This is where we'd meet Jason Todd, who usurps the Robin costume forcibly somehow and ends up getting killed, this is the last straw that causes Grayson to leave Batman and become Nightwing. Tim Drake would be a young kid in the background who figures out the secret, and in John Blake-like ways is implied to be the next Robin.

That's pretty much all I need. Anything beyond that requires a much longer film series, like, 7 films. In the fourth you can introduce Tim Drake Robin and have him meet Spoiler who becomes Batgirl, meanwhile Nightwing deals with/takes on Huntress in perhaps the following film or a spinoff. Then all this falls on its head after a real Knightfall mixed with Battle For the Cowl, and Azrael takes over, then Nightwing takes over again, then Bruce becomes Batman again.

They should have Robin only. Sorry, the rest of the bat-family are suited for serialized tales like animated series' and comics, but not for a film franchise. Things would just get too crowded.

I agree but I'd add Oracle as well. Not Batgirl, just Oracle.

Batman
Robin (with a progression into Nightwing)
Alfred
Oracle (skip Batgirl, but still have Barbara getting paralyzed by Joker)

Depends where in the mission the film series begins. If at the beginning:

Introduce Dick Grayson film 1, and begin his training and an "unofficial debut" of Robin. Film 2 would be Robin in his prime, the laughing daredevil, the full works. Film 3 would be the growing drift between Bruce and Dick and his burgeoning independence with the debut of Nightwing.

However, if the series begins several years into the mission, I'd have the first film be inspired by "Under the Hood". Tim is Robin, Barbara is Oracle, Dick is Nightwing (origin can be told in solo film) Jason has recently returned from the grave, and the format of the films would essentially be an ensemble piece.

I feel the movies would have to focus on the sidekicks' stories too much if they're included. Especially if they're being introduced. I'd hate 3 Batman movies where the main story is the how Robin became Robin or how Batgirl became Batgirl.

Instead, just have Dick already as Nightwing and establish that the rest of the Batfamily is out there doing their thing. Alfred and Oracle could both be in Batman's ear.

I want the next slew of Batflicks to focus on Batman. We haven't had a Batman centric movie since BB.

They should focus on Dick becoming Robin, and Robin becoming Nightwing. Anything else would take away from other stories they could tell.

I'd like to see a non Batgirl Barbara be paralyzed and take up the role of Oracle

Bronsan as a gun wielding Alfred...............you had my curiosity, get my attention.

Robin is essential, especially after all this time without any well-written Robins. The fact they teased Robin at the end of TDKR--and the outcry for a movie about Robin/Nightwing--is probably proof enough to WB that the character is marketable.

As for the rest of the Bat Family, I'd love to see them. Will they appear? I don't know. Barbara has a good chance of making the cut, but nothing else is guaranteed.

I really hope the S.H.I.E.L.D. tv show opens up doors to movie/television tie-ins. I'd love for the Bat family, especially Nightwing, to be on the small screen while Bruce gets the big screen but have them all in the same universe.

I'd rather Barbara be Batgirl over Oracle personally.

Really want to see Grayson done right. Would love an adaption of Dark Victory. Only thing, I think he can't be named Robin. Robin's general image among the non-comic folk is very campy.

My idea is age him up to 16/17 and Call him Nightwing from the get go. Really show his anger and really show the parallel between him and Bruce. But show that he is a different hero. He uses speed, acrobatics(not crazy high flying wire work, kung fu film acrobatics. More parkor/free running) to his advantage.

As for Barbara. Don't know. Same as Dick, her image is campy. Maybe an adaption of Robin: Year One or Batgirl Year One can work?

Would Love a killing Joke Movie.

If Barbara is used, and that's a big "if," she ought to be Batgirl first. Her arc wouldn't be nearly as powerful without that, imo.

Maybe for a brief stint. Soon after becoming Batgirl, she should be paralyzed. Barbara being paralyzed on film would be so heavy...

It would be heavy yes but I still wish she could just be Batgirl, I like her character and despite the Killing Joke being a great story I always feel bad for Barbara becoming paralyzed.

The first part would be cool but the second part is exactly what I want to see!
