"The River" follows the story of wildlife expert and TV personality Emmet Cole. Emmet set course around the world with his wife, Tess, and son, Lincoln, while filming what would become one of the most popular shows in television. After he goes missing deep in the Amazon, his family, friends and crew set out on a mysterious and deadly journey to find him. Famed explorer Dr. Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood) went looking for magic deep in the uncharted Amazon and never returned. The shocking truth about his disappearance is out there, somewhere, just waiting to be discovered. To the millions of kids who grew up watching his nature show, Dr. Cole was a hero. To his own son, Lincoln (Joe Anderson), he was more of an enigma. Now, six months after he vanished, Lincoln is finally ready to bury the past when Dr. Cole's emergency beacon suddenly goes off. At the urging of his mother, Tess (Leslie Hope), Lincoln reluctantly joins her on a search for his father. To fund the rescue, they agree to let Dr. Cole's cagey ex-producer, Clark (Paul Blackthorne), film the mission documentary-style.

The mixed crew of old friends and new acquaintances includes the sexy and resourceful Lena (Eloise Mumford), loyal mechanic Emilio (Daniel Zacapa) and lethal bodyguard Captain Kurt Brynildson (Thomas Kretschmann). "The River" stars Bruce Greenwood ("Star Trek") as Emmet Cole, Joe Anderson ("The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2") as Lincoln Cole, Paul Blackthorne ("Lipstick Jungle") as Clark, Paulina Gaitan as Jahel, Leslie Hope ("24") as Tess Cole, Eloise Mumford ("Lone Star") as Lena, Shaun Parkes ("The Mummy Returns") as Adjay, Thomas Kretschmann ("King Kong") as Captain Kurt Brynildson and Daniel Zacapa ("Resurrection Blvd.") as Emilio. "The River," from Amblin's Steven Spielberg, Daryl Frank and Justin Falvey, showrunner/executive producer Michael Green ("Heroes," "Kings"), is also executive-produced by Oren Peli (creator of "Paranormal Activity"), Zack Estrin, Jason Blum and Steven Schneider. Teleplay by Michael R. Perry and Michael Green, story by Oren Peli & Michael R. Perry and Michael Green. The pilot is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and produced by ABC Studios.

I didn't initially have any interest in this but after seeing the promo I'm intrigued. Good to see Terri Bauer in work as well.

I'm a bit interested in this, with a verite-style camera in the same spirit as Paranormal Activity but taking place in Amazon.

Premieres February 7th.

This probably would've done better with an October premiere, but ah well, just glad it's finally coming.

Just saw one of the promo spots and trailer for the first time. I think I'm going to love this!

I am very interested in this. The first season is only 8 episodes and I think that might be a good thing, because it doesn't stretch the premise too thin.

I'm pretty excited for this one, though I'm concerned I may be overhyped. :o

Just saw it. It's pretty... Meh. The acting isn't very good, same goes for the writing. But it got some good suspense so maby it can get better.

It seems interesting. I missed the premiere tonight, I'll try to catch it on On Demand.

I watched the two-hour premiere and so far I like it. Definitely interested to see where it goes from here.

The second half was waaaay better than the first IMO, at least in the creepy department. The monkey/dollface part in the beginning and all of the dolls falling got me a bit. Lol.

ok..saw it and I didnt care for it ...Im done with it

Mix one part Lost, with one part Blair Witch, some Annaconda, hit blend and we have The River.

Me and my family all liked it. Especially me and my 12yo son, since we both love horror films and games. We're weird like that. :o

That's exactly what I thought. The first half really didn't grab me at all. I guess because it was just some random black thing zooming around, it wasn't really scary. The dolls were pretty freaky though and I'm usually not bothered by that kind of thing.

The monkey with the doll on it's head was great, when that thing started to turn I literally said "WHAT THE **** IS THAT?" And then I realized it was a monkey. :o

I kinda like that it isn't just one thing that's messing with them, but how they're discovering all of this Amazon folklore, that's a pretty good concept.

Rating weren't great....
A disappointing amount of people chose to take a ride up ABC’s The River on Tuesday night. The thriller-chiller drew 8.2 million total viewers and a 2.5 demo rating with its 9 o’clock premiere, then slipped to 6.8 mil and a 2.2 for its second episode.
Lets hope that that ratings at least stay flat. I'd hate to see them drop too much next week.

Somewhat interesting premise, didn't care for the execution at all. Only watched for about thirty minutes. The documentary angle got tiring really fast. And some downright terrible acting, and writing.

I feel like I just watched a 90s saturday syndicated show

I thought it was a decent start and will continue to watch it. It is a lot better than most of the crap on so I will stay tuned to see where it goes from here.

Just looks like if LOST, Anaconda and Paranormal Activity had a threesome and created a baby, if it was ever possible.
