Horror The Scream Franchise Thread

Well Dewey always balanced Gale out. The innocence vs the cynical. The two had great chemistry cause he brought the heart out of her and she brought the toughness out of him.

Gale doesn’t really work without him imo.

Yeah they worked better together, but Dewey's few moments in the last film were amongst his and, even more so, the movie's best, even with minimum Gale interaction. I'm bumped that he was the one they chose to off in order to raise the stakes of the franchise.

True. It’s the two characters we’re most emotionally invested in, other than Sidney, who drew a big emotional response from their deaths; Randy and Dewey.

I can’t think of m another slasher sequel that elicited that in a character’s death.

I love Sid... but, she needs to sit 6 out. Honestly only want either of the ogs back only to be killed. And, I sure don't want Sid to ever die.

This might be unpopular but I don't think Dewey had to die to raise the stakes. The fact that the three leads won't be together again is already a major downside for me.

Finally caught this. It's not as great as I hoped. It's good but it's hampered by a pretty flat performance from Melissa Barrera. I think on paper Sam's connection to Scream 1 is intriguing but I don't think she pulled off the performance in the compelling way that the role needed. I don't think she was awful just underwhelming. Dialogue was hit or miss and while the writers did a better job emulating Kevin Williamson's style than Scream 3, it still felt like an imitation. Also don't think Sidney, Gale and Dewey were as organically integrated in the film as they were in Scream 4 despite 5 being a better movie.

That said, I still really liked it. Liked that they finally killed off one of the main 3 and thought the killers were good. It really wasn't as predictable as I thought it might be. Really liked Tara and lowkey hope she becomes the co-lead with Barrera in sequels. Very worthy entry.

I would rank the films in this order:

1. Scream 2
2. Scream 1
3. Scream 5
4. Scream 4

5. Scream 3

I watched this yesterday. Its excellent for a fan film. Even Jamie Kennedy commented on it.
I saw the first 10 minutes or so until the title card and was pleasantly surprised. The voice and Ghostface are very well done.

Kind of wild that the last three Screams have been released with over a decade between each film and yet miraculously we’re going to get a sixth film only a little over a year after the fifth.
Just like Scream and Scream 2.

Isn’t Scream (2022) and its sequel being produced by a different studio? I think an issue with the previous entries were studios switching hands. I really hope the lack of a longer gap doesn’t make the quality of this one suffer too much. Then again, Scream to Scream 2 felt like they were made in completely different eras from each other despite being released less than a year apart.

I thought it was always Dimension with the Weinsteins demanding a bunch of script changes for the sequels. Didn’t Kevin Williamson talk about his fights with Bob Weinstein over the script for 4?

So they are going to resurrect her? I don't know if I'm a fan of that. I'd much rather have Kristen Bell coming back from the fourth one.
