Well, if he’s naming Sydney’s husband Mark who’s not Patrick Dempsey than that’s an obvious F-U to Scream 3. But he could also make a meta thing out of it if the “other Mark” shows up in a cameo.

It was mentioned in Scream 5, which wasn't written by Kevin Williamson. I guess they left it open enough so it could go either way.

Mark was like her reward for going through the **** in the first 4 movies. So kinda bummed by this and thought at least something good came from 3 other than a Carrie Fisher joke.
