Horror The Scream Franchise Thread

Really wish they could have kept all these announcements under wraps until the film's release, but it's now very clear the killer will be using AI or something to "resurrect" past figures and taunt the main characters.
OR…

We’re getting a New Nightmare take on Scream and they’re all basically playing themselves for the most part.

But yeah, probably your thing. :csad:

I, too, was getting excited at the idea of a "New Scream"... but ... it's unlikely.

Maybe the killer is using AI to wear the faces of the actors who played the characters in the films to taunt and try to traumatize Neve Campbell’s character so she’ll be just like Sidney Prescott, the character that she played in the films. To go even further with the meta-ness, the killer murders, steals and “wears” the voices and faces of actors to re-create facsimiles of each one of their characters that feel just a little bit off and not quite right.

Comment on the current fear of Hollywood taking likenesses and identities of living and dead actors without their permission to effectively “resurrect” and/or “immortalize” them as uncanny digital homunculi so Hollywood executives can profit and benefit financially from them without having to pay or need them ever again. Maybe even make the killer someone who’s all in on the whole AI thing, like a tech bro or Hollywood type who wants to profit off of it for a quick buck without any regard for the humanity of the people he slaughters. As a bonus, Neve Campbell‘s character could use the killer’s own face and voice to kill them, so that the last thing they see and here is themselves in a twisted, ironic fashion.

You get the actors playing themselves for a bit, but also get the characters back as we knew them, so they can have their cake and eat it, too.

Except we know this isn’t a New Nightmare plot. But AI COULD still be used. Think the voice copier from Scream 3 but times 100

Im thinking the killer for sure is using AI, and in this franchise it wouldn't be a first for the killer to record there kills, and in this case maybe they post them online and the twist is in each kill they unmask and use AI or deepfake and reveal themselves to be the past killers from previous films. That or we're getting a hell of alot of flashbacks or dreams. LOL

If Jimmy Tatro is Ghostface, I’m going to lose my goddamn mind.

I am very sorry to say this... and please come back anytime, Jenna... but I KNOW I will not miss the sisters in the next installment.

I am here for my final girl Sidney and that's all that matters to me in relation to this movie.

Most of Scream's new fans will not be, though.

I'm not a new fan and I am bored of Sidney. Her character is spent. She was even bored with Ghostface in the 5th one.

Then I guess it flops... One final spin with the original cast and the franchise rides off into the sunset. I'd be ok with that.

People may be bored of the original characters, but the new ones didn't work for me personally, so succeed or fail, as a fan, I'm about ready to wrap it up.

To me it's not inherently better or worse for a new installment to focus on old or new characters. I only care about, "is it a good story?" Period. You could argue there's no need for a new Scream movie at all, whether it's focusing on old or new characters. So I can only root for this to be a good movie that will continue the tradition of clever commentary on horror and pop culture while being a fun slasher flick in its own right. That's really what I care about with a Scream film.

And even with all the dumb stuff that happened with the prior iteration of the movie and Spyglass, I feel like I've gotta root for Kevin Williamson to do something cool here as an OG fan of this franchise. None of this would exist without him. It doesn't mean it will be good but it does mean I will approach it with an open mind.

Being on the side of the Palestinians in what’s going on is morally correct, and Barrera certainly shouldn’t be facing career setbacks for that, but it’s become increasingly difficult to see that bloc of activists/protesters in this country sympathetically.

It’s been fairly obvious from the jump that her firing wasn’t Landon’s decision. This was a studio/agency move. Save that energy for them, or the Gal Gadots and Noah Schnapps of the world. Or, I dunno… the guy who’s actually pals with Netanyahu and wants to turn Gaza into Trump property.

I still don't get why they fired her over her having an opinion on a war taking place in another country. Especially when there are a number of Americans who agree with her opinion. It was a massive overreaction then and now.

I seem to recall the initial story being that one of the agency heads got pissy about how she tweeted and they tried to paint it as antisemitism.
