Horror The Scream Franchise Thread

Another possibility: Maureen Prescott murder flashback?

It definitely crossed my mind. It's the original inciting incident for the whole franchise so it's always been an intriguing peace of lore. Although in my head canon Roman wouldn't have been present for that. Maybe he could've been their getaway driver or something? Lol.

Then again I also hope we're not gonna be relying too much on de-aging. It hasn't looked great with Skeet and it's a step further to get us to buy them as the actual younger versions of themselves.

They might be covering the whole thing. From how Billy found out about the affair to how the murder was done. I don't know why they're retreading this old ground unless there's yet another new revelation about it.

He was already in 5 and 6, so not that suprising.

And yet the main reason for Billy even being in the last two got fired. WTF are we doing here?

Look I have absolutely no idea what the hell they're doing... but the guys who wrote the last two are back (and those were really good, at least for me) and the original writer of 1/2/4 is directing. So I'm definitely giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Agreed. I know there's a temptation to view everything about this movie as studio tainted, but you have the same writers and Kevin Williamson involved, all people who did a good job with the last two and genuinely care about the franchise. I think they were dealt a tough blow and are going to try to make the best movie they can.

My biggest concerns with the movie aren't with the story really, it's more about whether Williamson can deliver as a director. Radio Silence and obviously Wes Craven set a very high bar.

That's a valid concern. And, to be honest, I was the same way when those RadioSilence guys were announced as the directors of 5. Not only was I relieved when I saw it but I was even more enthusiastic during 6 where I think they knocked it out of the park. I'm in the minority but I loooved 6.
I hope to have the same feeling with Williamson. They haven't let me down in 30 years.

Roman's kid will probably be the killer. Going after his aunt.

After really enjoying 5, I really disliked 6 (almost as much as I disliked 4) so for me this is all about getting the franchise back on track where I’m excited to see where it goes.

I’d actually prefer a real wrap up of the series (3 done right), but there’s no way the studio would allow that.

Radio Silence did such a great job with 6 IMO. I didn't love the killer reveals, but other than that, for me it really felt like the freshest sequel the franchise has had in a long time, just in terms of the overall approach and energy. Some really memorable Ghostface sequences, I had such a blast watching it in a packed theater.

They about to do a triple backflip over the shark :o.

It’s hard for me to see how this will be any good with so much creative retooling happening in such a short amount of time and with whatever weird, almost certainly half-assed explanation they’ll have for why the sisters aren’t there but their friends are. Still disappointed about everything that happened and disappointed that Neve came back in the circumstances that she did.

Also Kevin Williamson’s last and only directorial effort was 1999’s Teaching Mrs. Tingle so… maybe he’s learned something in the past 25 years but that fact isn’t exactly inspiring a lot of confidence :o.

Even before everything happened with Melissa, I always figured this movie was gonna circle back to Sidney and that Neve would come back. I think the circumstances just forced them to lean harder into that. Similar to how they were able to retool 6 without Sidney pretty seamlessly.

Truthfully though, I'm not sure how much more mileage there was with the "Will Sam go full Billy?" of it all. I feel like by the end of 6, the sisters repaired their relationship, Sam drops the mask at the end signaling that she's moving on. It's not an entirely unnatural point to move on from their story.

FWIW, ViewerAnon has been the most reliable scooper for the new Scream movies, so here's hoping this ends up being true.

Scream 7: Into the Ghostface-Verse

I'm kinda intrigued by all these news honestly. While I agree with the Melissa firing being very disappointing, 5 and 6 were my least favorites (still liked both) so I was more hyped about them focusing on Sid again anyways. Hearing all the news of these people coming back is definitely intriguing even if it could turn out a big mess. I think the Maureen Prescott flashback kill is a pretty sound theory for why some of them will pop up but at this point I'm open to anything.

Is it 100% confirmed everyone is playing their Scream characters or is there a 1% chance they're pulling some New Nightmare stunt on us and everyone is playing themselves but there's a real ghostface killing the actors off? (That could definitely be an interesting thing to do but it's hard to make another sequel beyond that idea)

Not a fan of SAW X.

Really wish they could have kept all these announcements under wraps until the film's release, but it's now very clear the killer will be using AI or something to "resurrect" past figures and taunt the main characters.
