The Screenwriting Thread

Writing my first script right now (well, 2nd...I abandoned my first cause it uber sucked).

As of this post, 11 pages in. I plan on it being around 90 pages, and I started today, so I am happy
That's a good start. I'm happy for you man.

I just started using Celtx and I've noticed it doesn't automatically bold things like scene headings. Does anybody know how to make it automatically bold headings, or am I just going to have to do it all manually?

EDIT: Nevermind, I've found sources that say headings must be bold and others (especially my screenwriter's bible) that say never bold. So, I'm just going to make things easier on myself and just not worry about putting things in bold.

This is true, at this point it is up to you whether or not you want to bold scene headings or not. Some screenwriters do, some don't. Glad you have Trottier's book though, I've read over 30 of them, and that is the one I carry with me till this day.

I'm curious, just what steps do you take to make a career as a screen writer. I have been writing many concepts for the past few years and I'm looking for a new career, so I wouldn't mind finding out exactly what one must do to get to this stage.

Does anyone have the script for Superbad? I have the scripts fr 40 year ld virgin, knocked up. pineapple express, Tropic thunder and TDK. If anyone wanted to trade.

I have some minor tweaks to do, but I basically finished my 1st script. I'm just going to do some tweaks before I save to PDF. Clocks in around 81 pages (we'll see exactly how many after tweaks). I did 2/3 of it in a week, but pace slowed due to moving and my roommate being nosy and not giving me much privacy (I am self conscious about showing incomplete works to people).

Congrats! Good luck with the rewriting process. Is is possible that you can give a small synopsis.

I would prefer to print out a copy and mail it to myself before openly posting my synopsis. Just don't want someone to steal the idea before I at least get a bootleg copyright. I should have that done in a coupl of days, also. Will post a synopsis once I do that.

I will say it is a horror movie.

Script is done. I'll post a synopsis in a few.

Synopsis:

Title: Trolling

Plot: Nerdy high school kid Stan Lynch has few concerns in life: school, friends, and discussing movies on the internet. One day on his message board, Stan read a terrible script by another poster, and proceeded to bash the script and personally insult the writer. Stan thought it was a fun thing to do. Stan never counted on the poster hunting him down, seeking revenge. With the help of his friends and his ex-girlfriend, Stan must face this psychotic poster in a game of life or death.

Hey, well im not on here much, but i've been trying to write a script for ages now, because i have lots of ideas in my head but i just can't write them out, i've tried a few times but i could never finish it, any advice ?

Well, just try to focus on one Idea and go from there.

Most make a outline of what they what before they write it.

I feel bad. I use to write all the time and now I can barely start something. -sigh-

Hmm I've never seen this Script Buddy before, I might have to put my script up there once it's finished. I'm guessing they have some kind of copy right protection setup there?

Yeah, it says all things up up there are fully copy righted and can't be used with out the writers permission.

Anyone got advice for getting ideas to come out of a stubborn brain?
well, you could always watch some movies for ideas or tv shows. I don't know or just think of stuff from your life and try to turn it into something or someone elses life.

There are a couple of fan fictions I want to do. Spider-Man reboot, Power Rangers reboot, X-Men reboot. It's just...I can never get the GOLDEN idea for them.

I have plenty of original fiction ideas stored up however.

Well, then again i don't know what to say about people who wanna write fan-fiction for re-boots of movies.

Eh. It's usually the other way around. That's why it's troubling me. :hehe:

I usually have trouble coming up with original stuff. The reason I don't want to write my original stuff is fear of if I post it. It gets stolen and some takes credit for it elsewhere.
