The Screenwriting Thread

My first movie is going to be "feature length". It's an origin story of The Shredder from the popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise set in present-day japan. Seeing as how I live in Ohio, people wonder how I'm going to pull it off. But I have some EXTREMELY good resources and will use them. I just can't decide on a title.

I could go the "Wolverine" route and call it TMNT Origins: The Shredder or call it, Enter The Shredder. Help please?

I really don't think a Shredder origin story is the best idea for a first feature.

I think that in this catagory you're a little too influenced by what they're doing with 'X-Men' now. Wolverine is a character people wanted to know about, however, Shredder is not that interesting. They gave us a little backstory in the original movie and I think that's really all it needs. There's nothing really interesting about Shredder's origin, except for maybe how he got the scar, which was explained in the movie. What you have to take under advisement before you plan on writing screenplays is to ask yourself: "What do people want to see?" or "What have they never seen, that they'd be interested in seeing now?"

If you have put some deep thought into the character of Shredder, and not just basing it off of this new 'Wolverine' film. I'd recommend you continue your plans and make it, write it, whatever. If not, put some more thought into it, or invest those thoughts into another project.

I appreciate the input from both of you. Really.

To Cmill216: I should have been more clear in stating this being my first movie. I've directed before. Yet this movie will the one that was written by me and has had only my creative input. I'm probably confusing you even more. My appologies.

To thejon93: I think you have me mistaken. I did NOT decide to do this movie only because the X-Men series is starting to release origin stories. I'm doing this because The Shredder has alway been a very interesting character to me and I feel there is more of his story to be told than what has been shown in previous movies.

My remark about the "Wolverine" movie was about the TITLE of the movie and NOT my reasoning for doing it. I am in no way basing this movie in any way shape or form on the new X-Men movie. Just asking what I should title it guys. I'm trying to not take offense. I know you're only trying to help but it's just a tad bit insulting.

A REDICULOUS(sp?) amount of thought has been put into every aspect of this film. I know why I want to do it, I know what I want to say, and what I want the audience to feel. Answering questions like: "Why should the audience care?"

Thank you for your input but I just think you got the wrong idea. Which may have been my fault.

No problem, 'Nightwing'. It's good to know and see that you are very passionate about this character and the story you're attempting to tell. I apologize for questioning the story that you're obviously trying your best to bring to life and I only hope that drive can bring the project to life in the future. Good luck to you, sir:yay:

Have you tried writing a script for a film or a play. ? Are you in the process of writing one?

I haven't written a full script before. I have like 5 main ideas for scripts I want to write. Most of them are original ideas. I wanted to write 2 fanboy scripts but I'm very hesitant about them

i've written a few. im sort of in the middle of writing a western right now. but then i realized that i have a beginning and end, but no middle. apparently scripts need middles.

LOL whats the premise of some of your scripts and your current western

For the record scripts and screenplays are different parts of the movie process, they're not the same thing.

I've written a few screenplays, but have no intention of writing any scripts :down

I just finished writing a script for a film based on a play I co-wrote last year.

Adapting stage to screen is harder than I thought!

I've tried writing scripts, but I have trouble committing. I'll start off with one idea and then change to another story, midway through my first one.

Damn, Wolfwood...long time no see.

Screenplay
A script written to be produced as a movie.

Script
A general term for a written work detailing story, setting, and dialogue. A script may take the form of a screenplay, shooting script, lined script, continuity script, or a spec script. A script is often sold for a particular price, which is increased to a second price if the script is produced as a movie. For example, a sale may be described as "$100,000 against $250,000". In this case, the writer is paid $100,000 up front, and another $150,000 when the movie is produced.

Oh, and to answer the thread...I have written shorts...and was last in the middle of a feature length.

hehe Hey Spawn, I've been lurking...for a long time. >_>

I might go into just lurkin' mode soon....Hype has lost its Hype...

Shorts (if I film them) are like 5-10 pages...depending on how many scenes. I wrote The Hype movie a long time ago, that was like 100+...I didn't finish something I was on at about 60 pages...if I don't set out to a film a short, its script will be no more than 10 pages.

Usually, shorts are made so that they are actually smaller scenes to something bigger I am working on.

In my head.

I've finished script numero uno... 118 pages... working on numero dos (sad part is the script is 120 pages, and its only half-way done...)

REWRITING WILL BE GIGANTIC!

Good for you keep up the work.

I just finished editing Script number 4.

Brings me up to

1 Mystery/Suspense
1 Raunchy Romantic Comedy
1 Horror/Thriller
1 Slasher film.

Been looking over most of them late. and trying to get the juices flowing to continue on my 5th one then. It's a Southern Ghost story.

Still in the middle of my first feature. It's going really well. Just a lot of off and on writing.

I want to be done by the end of summer, because I've got a year-long feature workshop beginning in August, and I'd like to have one feature under my belt before tackling one for the full year.
