Stormwatch by Paul Cornell and Miguel Sepulveda debuts tomorrow, and it has become one of the DC New 52 titles I'm most looking forward to. Even though I've never read The Authority, my appreciation of Paul Cornell's work made this a comic that was always on my radar, and everything that I've heard about the book has made me anticipate it more.

I thought I'd create a thread to discuss the comic, which I think could be a real dark horse and emerge as one of the best of DC's new titles. To start, I'll post up this interview with Paul Cornell from Ain't It Cool, which contains a preview for the first issue:

This will be the first book I read tomorrow like even before Action Comics. I am very curious as to how much of the tone of the original series is carried over into the DCnU; also want to see how the "more famous for The Authority than their brief stint in Stormwatch" characters are handled.

This book definitely needs a better artist on it. I know that they're bringing in someone else to help out on issue #2, hopefully the look of the book will improve.

:atp:

This is one of the series I'm most excited for. I love Apollo and Midnighter, love the writing of Paul Cornell and the team are going to fight the moon!

Everything about this series sounds fun and crazy and fabulous and I'm excited to see how J'onn fits in with the team and how Shadow Cabinet will be used as well

I'll be buying the first issue tomorrow :)

I'm kinda torn, in that I now think I really should read up on The Authority, but on the other hand a lot of it may now be out of continuity.

I do think this could be a real breakout series, though, if people give it a try. Even setting aside the Wildstorm/Authority connection and taking it as something new, Stormwatch has a really appealing concept, with the classic superhero team structure applied to more of a high concept sci-fi aesthetic. I hope it's a big hit. Paul Cornell deserves and is overdue one.

Really looking forward to this, but I agree with Taskmaster, this book needs a better artist, HARD. And I am thoroughly disappointed that it won't star "the real" Jenny. Bullocks!

Who cares if it's not going to be in current continuity, they are great stories definitely worth reading.

Just based on what I've read about him in the wake of the marketing for Stormwatch, Jack Hawksmoor sounds like an amazingly cool character. So I'll probably check out The Authority just to see more of him in action.

You should also consider reading the original Stormwatch series specifically Warren Ellis' run; it's simply top notch stuff and is a great pre-cursor to The Authority.

Paul Cornell writing bombastic superheroes fighting the moon! The ****ing moon. I'll take forty.

Just read Ellis's and Millar's run. The rest you can skip.

Bull****, Brian K. Vaughan's run, Revolutions, was one of the best parts of the series.

I'm reading this. I'm not especially excited for it, but I'll get the first issue or two for the Martian Manhunter and pray he's not a murderous sociopath all of a sudden.

You know, if they're so intent on not being super heroes, why are most of them wearing costumes?

I'm looking forward to this. Mostly for the Martian, but also a lot for the fact that they'll be fighting the moon.

Everybody saying they'll be fighting the moon actually has me looking forward to it more now.

I found out when I was looking ahead at the solicits for December (I think) and they mention Stormwatch fighting the moon. Originally, I was there to check out how J'onn's going to be handled, but superheroes vs the moon is exactly the crazy **** that made me love comics in the first place.

It's one of the reasons I loves comic books

Crazy fun ideas like that make me happy I'm a comic book fan :hrt:

It's going to be fun on a bun made of fun. With extra fun on top

I always knew the moon was evil. Hanging up there being all moon-y and creating werewolves :ninja:

Yeah, that's comics done right.

I had an idea about the Atom chasing a psychotic quark through the microverse hell bent on removing the God Particle and destroying all reality. (Which I got after watching that episode of Secret Squirrel with that rogue Quark that talked and sang like Sammy Davis Jr.)

I havet read Stormwatch before, but I do enjoy crazy harddcore sci-fi. Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the best bookls of previous years, my question is: is this the same basic style they are going for here? If I liked GotG will I like Stormwatch?

Kinda hard to say seeing as they're getting a full reboot of the franchise.

Also, Henry Bendix HAS to be involved in this somehow.

I'm sure he'll be showing up at some point in this series. After all the times he's cheated death I'm sure he's still out there plotting away
