The Shadow (1994)

The Shadow is one of the most underrated "comic" films made IMO. It's all around good that wasn't appreciated at all in it's time. But has since found an audience and has a good cult following behind it. And is based on a just plain awesome character. And Baldwin is The Shadow.

The Phantom wasn't as good. It was a pretty decent adaption. But a bit hammy, it had quite a bit cut out of it to make it more fast paced as well. But still entertaining partly because of Billy Zane. No where as good as The Shadow sadly.

The Shadow was an awesome movie. Alec Baldwin as an opium druglord. It had Ian McKellen pre Magneto as a scientist. It had a crazy Tim Curry. It reminded me of the Rocketeer. Both films have Saturday Matinee feels to them. The Phantom was kind of lame.

The holy quad of B-Llist live action comic films in order of sweet action and close to the big time is as follows.

4- The Phantom, It was made the best movie as it could, it's hard to feel for a character when he lives in the jungle...and wearing purple.

3- The Rocketeer. I loved this when it came out. The jetpack scenes and the period look were awesome, it does come of as dated though. Timothy Dalton kicks ass!!

2- Dick Tracy...c'mon, it was Dick Tracy, it was colorful, violent and true as anything ever put on film. Not up there w/ X-2 or Spidey 2, but just shy of #1

1- The Shadow, I loved the pacing, and the descendent of Kahn, got up and got evil quick. I'm torn tween this and Tracy, but Baldwin put it over the top

The Sun Is Shining..........

...But The Ice Is Slippery.

I too love The Shadow, Alec was great in it. When they announced a live action Batman movie in 88, i thought Alec would have been a GREAT bruce/batman. I just saw him in Beetlejuice and Married to the Mob and thought he LOOKED like Bruce Wayne. When I later found out that Alec was gonna have a chance to play his own super hero/secret identity i was thrilled. He may not have been Batman, but he WAS The Shadow. Plus, again the great music by Jerry Goldsmith, had an almost 'Elfman' feel to the score. Penelope Ann Miller was great as Margo Lane, ditto Tim Curry (ALWAYS awesome in any fim) as Farley Claymore. I really liked Peter Boyle as Moe the cabby, and that sweet looking Cord taxi cab.

Love the movie, mostly because of the classic vibe it gives off. The theme is awesome as well

Here is an animated gif that makes fun of Lamont's dream "I dreamed that I tore off my face, and was somebody else."

:woot:

yeah, and the theme IS awesome, I have the soundtrack on cd. my fave bit is the music that plays when Shadow enters the Hotel Monolith and you see the camera follow his shadow when the lightning flashes, and when he appears at the top of the steps with his cloak flowing and the music kicks in loud :woot:. Oh and his Shadow laugh is damn cool too, especially after the aforementioned scene. If your a fan of The Shadow and or Jerry Goldsmith, get the soundtrack its damn good

It's odd how all the pulp heroes of yesteryear like The Shadow, The Phantom, Doc Savage, Dick Tracy, Flash Gordon don't seem to connect with modern audiences.

But Superman and Batman who came from that time period are always modernized in film, comics, TV.

OMG I remember watching that Rocketeer movie a LONG time ago!

Btw, can someone post a picture of Baldwin as The Shadow?
