The Sims 3....anyone?

like, my computer is supposed to be able to run it, according to systemrequirementslab.com, and it should run above average, but when I install/play it, it's very "laggy."

I myself can not wait for this game...
I'm a sims fanatic, have been for over 10 years...

Bought the mobile version for iPod Touch at midnight last night. Really like it.

So far the game is incredibly fast, but then again it just came out and I have no custom content installed. Im sure I wont be saying the same a year from now. Probably will need to upgrade my PC for it...lol

I have heard from a lot of my friends that it isn't worth buying The Sims 3 if you already have 2. They say most of the objects are just ports from the 2nd one and they have very little content because they want you to buy it all later. What's your opinion on that?

thats how it was for the Sims 2 coming from Sims 1. I dont see it as a big deal here. Whats always been the main focus of the series was the user created content anyway. It may not be worth buying now bc its so new and isnt anything out there yet to download, but it will come in time. As far as there being little content, I dont necesadily agree bc theres quite a bit in there. I definetly love the customization they allow with texturing and coloring objects/clothing/hair. How the Sims live and interact with the overall game world has been vastly improved and it all surprinsgly works out and runs pretty well. I love how you can take your Sim across the neighborhood without any loading times. That got pretty annoying with Sims 2. That would make it worth checking out

I'll try buying the game for those reasons alone. The loading times for The Sims 2 is still a pretty major lag for me to endure.

How's the music in this game? I would have preferred the elevator, classical, piano music to make a return for The Sims 2.

I got the game yesterday and they really designed it to get you to use their downloaded content interface. Both standard and collectors edition give you 1000 store points to buy content and you burn through it very fast. There is also a lot of user created free stuff to grab but they'll need to clean up the interface/search engine because there is a LOT of crap there and wading through pages of junk to find something useful is frustrating.

Its a good game with a lot of possibilities but boy oh boy compared to all the custom stuff that I had for my Sims 1 this release seems very vanilla.

How do those store points work? How do you acquire them?

Once you register you get a free town map and 1000 worth of store points (worth $10 in real world money). You then buy more points online for your account just like XBox Live in increments $5/$10/$20 US (500/1000/2000 points). Items cost vary from 25 to over 100 points each depending on the file size and you can buy bulk sets that are done up with multiple files and these cost 1000+ points.

Like I said earlier there are lots of free files too that are user made (some are pretty good) that you can get using the store download engine. It looks like there will be real world promo items available as well because Toyota has a free Prius that you can add to the game now.

I got the game. It is fun so far but I have a few gripes:

- You cannot see yourself when you walk into a building.
- The ultra speed and high speed do not work
- They only offer one neighborhood
- There are hardly any furniture or clothing options to chose from
- Having your own personal car worked better in the Sims 2. At least your car didn't drive itself until it was right next to you :o

I think they saved too much for the expansion packs. It would've been great if some of those were resolved. Right now it just feels like Sims 2 without the loading screen. Im still having fun though

Yes, Havok, but now you can make a Young Adult outside of college. Then again, there is no college in The Sims 3 (yet).

The game is vastly improved. Traits and favorites are far superior to those personality bars from S1 and S2. No more god awful Environment or Comfort bars. Less bathroom breaks. More socialization opportunities. You can discover if a NPC Sim has a significant other. The world is filled with other Sims. And all this is from one day of playing it. Definitely worth the investment for me. Can't wait for the expansion packs.

Hey, anyone remember that creepy clown painting from Sims 1? If you put it up, the clown would come to your house, but you couldn't delete the painting once it was up.

Has anybody been able to figure out how to get their Sim to do any of the cooking/food opportunities (like when you get the opportunity to bake cookies for the school)? How do you do this? Which command do you use to add it to your inventory in order to pick it up and carry it to your destination?

Edit - I found a solution. You're supposed to click and drag the item to you backpack screen. Strange that everything in the game works off a menu system except this particular opportunity.

They announced the first expansion pack for Sims 3, titled "World Adventures Expansion Pack". Here is the description:
The Adventure is Near…
Take your Sims on the adventure of their lives with The Sims 3 World Adventures. Guide your Sims to acclaimed fortune—or potential doom. Take your Sims to exotic destinations to hunt for hidden treasures. Uncover new skills, experience new personality traits and garner rewards, if your Sims succeed. Explore ancient tombs in the pyramids of Egypt, master martial arts in the Far East, and discover rich culture and famous landmarks of France. Adventure is on the horizon — what will your Sims discover?

FEATURES

•Accept challenges, find treasures, discover what’s lurking in hidden caves and more.
•Explore famous landmarks in China, Egypt, and France.
•Learn new skills like photography and pursue new opportunities.
•Meet new Sims from exotic locations and share their cultures.
•Customize your Sims homes with new styles & artifacts from their adventures.
•Get $10 worth of free SimPoints for The Sims 3 Store, and additional online features to be announced.

Not sure why they went this route other than to give more options to the machinima makers. For the average player I don't see it being much of a draw.

Interesting choice for a first expansion pack. With that said I might consider picking this up.

Oh my God...I bought the Sims 3 Pets today and my poor laptop can't handle it. :( I mean just look at this video of a stray dog that wandered onto my Sims' lot:

Are you sure it's a dog and not a deformed sabertooth tiger? Either way:
