I watched a few episodes of this a few weeks ago for the first time. It is a very good cartoon. I don't know why I didn't get into it sooner.

One thing I liked is how the majority of Spidey's foes appeared in episodes before the episode where they became a supervillain. IE Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Venom, Lizard, Sandman, Rhino, Shocker, Mysterio, Molten Man and had the show not been cancelled, Hobgoblin and possibly Carnage, Hydro-Man and Jackal.

I think what hurts the most about the show being cancelled is hearing or rather reading that Weisman had "big plans with Hobgoblin. BIG," for the 3rd season. With how well the show did at portraying the core truths of each character, it pains to think about how well they would have adapted other such foes and stories and knowing that we'll never see those come to light. And being the Hobgoblin fan that I am, it sucks to know that he was up next. I honestly would have rather Greg not said anything at all.

It look like they were going to do Lizard in Florida everglades story too because Curt Connors move with family with Florida at end of season 2.

It also still pisses me off that Roderick Kingsley finally makes an animated appearance and the show gets canned before he becomes Hobgoblin.

It's a shame indeed. By way of the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends TV show (my introduction to the character) I was introduced to GG before Hobgoblin however I'm still very much a huge HG fan. I would have loved to see Weisman and Cook put their HG vision out there.

Obviously just some fan art but I love the design here, especially the colors, and is probably not far off from what we would have gotten since it utilizes the same type of character design/art style from TSSM.

Different series and JM was under the mask, but I always hear Mark Hamill's voice since SM:TAS. Fits even better for Kingsley if you ask me.

I wonder if they would have used Courtney B Vance to voice Hobgoblin? Since he was the actor that voiced Kingsley. I'm assuming of course that Kingsley would have been the man behind the mask. He's not an accomplished voice actor as far as I'm aware so I've no idea of his range. But they did use Robert Englund, another non-voice actor in a role. Or it's quite possible they would have used a separate voice actor like with GG to hide his identity.

Did they use different actor for Master planner voice or was it Peter Mac nicol too?

Yeah, Peter MacNicol voiced the Master Planner. They used some sort of a distortion effect on his voice to disguise it but his name was clearly printed in the credits as the MP. As educated fans of the comics like you and I, we knew who the MP is/was but anyone who didn't might have been given a clue by looking up the actor's name after each of those episodes. Not sure what route they would have taken with Hobgoblin but if they really wanted to create a mystery, my guess is they would have used a separate voice actor. That's what they did with GG. Originally, they wanted to find one single voice actor to do Norman, Harry and GG but during auditions they couldn't find anyone that could nail all three parts. According to Greg, that's when they decided to use 3 separate actors because the mystery of the GG's identity was such a big, important part of the show.

Distortion effect work really well. It sound nothing like him. Lot of people were unsure right til last minute if Doc Ock would be Master Planner but I knew they would stay true to iconic story.

Yeah the distortion effect worked well enough. You weren't able to tell it was indeed MacNicol without looking at the credits. I think they did a great job when making this show about only making changes that were necessary for the story and not making contrived changes. They kept true to the core.

Since they had different actors playing Green Goblin and both of the Osborns, one way they could've done Hobgoblin would be for Steve Blum to play him too, only have him put a different spin on the voice somehow. No problem for an accomplished performer like Blum.
