The Stephen King Thread

As a Tower junkie of *many* years, I would have to say I am more interested in the adventures of Roland. I've had several friends tell me that the DT series is going to be a movie, and one even said a tv show. While I would *really* love to see some DT movies, I just don't see how they can be done in a way that does the books justice....

The Crate by Stephen King

Posted: August 27, 2010, 23:40:52

Here is the latest from Cemetery Dance:

Next week we'll be sending Shivers VI edited by Richard Chizmar to the printer and it contains a huge surprise: "The Crate" by Stephen King, his long lost NOVELLA written in the late 1970s that hasn't seen print in over 30 years and has never been in one of his collections!

This is classic, old fashioned Stephen King and 99.9% of his fans don't even know this novella exists... but later this year it'll be readily available to ALL readers for the first-time ever in Shivers VI, which will be published as an affordable trade paperback!

Read more about this on their site.

The tower series are extremely good, and i would be interested in seeing it in other mediums.

I was really drunk Thursday nite chillin with my gf and my boy, and me and my boy were just mouthing off at each other talking **** and he kicked my copy of The Wastelands off my coffee table and accidentally knocked the bookmark out and my drunk ass bugged the hell out lol It was funny but I was sooooo damn pissed at the time. So yea now I gotta backtrack from where I was at, I really needed to anyways the part with Jake was just starting to pick up. Pretty sure I hadnt made it past page 200 yet, I dunno. I needa start reading again cuz I surely been slackin

Isn't parenthood grand? :p

Grew up reading Stephen King. My picks:

Salem's Lot --- a great vampire story.
Night Shift ---- to me it's his best collection of short stories.
The Stand ---- this book was a monster when it first came out.

But if you want something current then read CELL. That just came out a few years ago and I hadn't been freaked out by a book like that in a long time. I may have to go find my copy and read it again now.

Cell is pretty good. I like how the ending was up in the air.

*tries to think of a sucky King book and fails. * Has he ever written anything that was junk? :p

The last Dark Tower book wasn't exactly a page turner.

The 4th Dark Tower book was also boring as hell-- at least up until the third section of the book.

I was kind of 'meh' about the 4th one the first time I read it. I confess that I find that the graphic novels that Marvel came out with more interesting when it comes to telling of Roland's younger days.

I really haven't been able to get into that series. I have the first two parts of the series but it just always....comes off boring to me.

I am just more of a fan of his horror stuff and his short story collections.

The Tommyknockers.

The last Dark Tower book wasn't exactly a page turner.
I loved both of those, lol. :p I tend to devour his books in a matter of days, the only exception being The Dome cuz it was too darn big for me to haul around at work.

BTW -- King is supposed to appear on tomorrow night's episode of Sons of Anarchy. :D Can't wait to see how he does.

I'm on the 5th Dark Tower book. I started reading it months ago, got incredibly distracted, and ended up putting the book down right about the time [blackout]Callahan is in the middle of his story about what happened to him after he left Salem's Lot[/blackout]. It wasn't due to a lack of interest; I loved that part. I just put the book down one day and forgot.

I picked it back up last week.

I liked 'The Tommyknockers'.

I hated the ending of 'It'. I felt robbed. It made no sense at all to me.
'Dolores Claiborne' was a struggle to get through but I did it.
I got half way through 'Gerald's Game' and just couldn't take it anymore. I got turned off to SK after that.
But when I read 'Cell'.........oh boy. And yeah, he did leave the ending open. I'm hoping he's has plans to continue it but who knows.

To me, his older stuff was always the better stuff. 'Carrie', 'Firestarter', 'The Dead Zone', 'The Bachman Books', 'Pet Cemetery'. 'Christine' I thought was okay.

How did the end of It not make any sense?

I hardly remember it myself. Something about a drop of water on a blade of grass or some such. I bet if I read it now, after reading all the Dark Tower books it would make more sense. :p Wasn't there something about a turtle?

The turtle and the deadlights? LOL, I love how so many things popped up in the Dark Tower books....every time I read Stephen King's other books, I always come across something that reminds me of the DT, and I start reading them all over again! :yay:

I cant wait to officially find out when/if King is going to do the sequel to The Shining.
