Age of Ultron The Steve Rogers/Captain America Thread

Also his comment about "everything special about you came out of a bottle" was an interesting line. I kind of got the sense that Loki wasn't mind-controlling them per se. Rather he was bringing thoughts/ideas that they already had to the surface. Normally, they would have kept those insults that they hurled at each other would have been kept to themselves, but Loki's manipulation heightened them to the point that they lashed out.

Not knowing Steve well, you can see why Tony might very well think that. Looking at it out of context, it does appear that Steve was just some guy who was lucky enough to be selected to be a glorified lab rat and that that's how he got all of his "special" abilities. Tony didn't know about the whole "the SSS merely amplifies qualities that you already had" aspect of it. And I can certainly see why Steve would think that Tony was just "nothing" without his armor. He doesn't know all of the struggles that Tony went through, or that Tony's real "power" is his brilliant mind. The armors are just tools that he uses. Basically neither of them saw below the surface qualities, at least not initially.

Despite the costume, you have to admit that the real star is Chris Evans. His performance as Steve Rogers has been the driving force behind the rise and popularity of Captain America to the general audience. Evans makes the character come to life.
  Chris is perfect as Cap.

Avengers World #10,
Comic book artist Marco Checchetto depiction of Steve Rogers kinda bares a resemblance to Chris Evans

Us handsome blond people all look the same.

I also got the sense that Tony did resent Steve for his past relationship with his father. Wonder what kind of dynamic will be going on in "Ultron."

Yeah, Tony and Steve's dynamic will be an interesting one, especially if Tony finds out about Bucky's involvement in his parent's deaths.

Cap leadership skills need to be showcased in Avengers:AOU

Think they will. They showed them in Avengers when he took control. Think they will (mostly) follow his orders during any fighting.

Outside of that they will bicker and argue.

Kids Said the Darndest Things at Chris Evans’s Meet-and-Greet in Newburyport

He hosted a killer fundraiser, too, but it was naturally less amusing.

Despite that hefty title as America’s Most Wanted superhero, Chris Evans is a simple kind of guy. He’s from Sudbury. He drinks beer. He’s close with his mom, and he’s generally the first one to say, “Let’s take a picture!”

Which made for great atmosphere for the many kinds of fans who went out to his meet-and-greet in Newburyport on Thursday night, an event held before a fundraiser hosted at his cousin’s restaurant, Fifty Water. His family attended the occasion including his mom, Lisa, his soap opera actor brother, Scott, and his two aunts from Somerville and Framingham.

Lisa sat right next to Evans at the meet-and-greet table, and is the kind of lady who is so obviously a mother of four. She encouraged kids to show off their Captain America shields, and clapped when they flexed for the cameras next to her son. “Wait, Chris, look at his star socks! Show Chris your socks!” Lisa Evans might be an actual supermom.

While Evans is no stranger to doting attention from women of a certain age, and general prying into his life from the media, he found himself faced with a different sort of authority. Kids say and do the weirdest things at inopportune times. Last night was no exception.

One boy, no older than 8 years old, walked up to Evans with a T-shirt to sign. “Hey, buddy,” Evans said.

“What kind of car do you have?” The boy asked right off the bat. Evans said he didn’t know then muttered something about not being into cars. “Well, are you a millionaire? What about a billionaire?” the boy asked before being dragged away by his extremely flustered parent, likely dying of inner-embarrassment.

Another boy named Andrew, about three years old, is Captain America’s biggest fan, he told Evans. “Is that right?” Evans asked. “Yes, it is,” said the boy stoically, insulted as any three-year-old could, that he was being questioned about his fan status.

Then, a new mother showed up with her baby strapped to her front, and almost as soon as she approached the table, the infant latched on to Evans’s hair. And didn’t let go. The mother remained casual about it, though, as if everyone should have the opportunity to grasp Chris Evans’s hair. Levels of jealousy within the room immediately skyrocketed, particularly among a couple of groups of fangirls who, of course, were also out in force.

“The younger fans are so great, I love this stuff,” Evans said later that night, when the room shifted into to a fundraiser for The Pettingale House, supporting children and families in need. Then, true to simple guy form, he held out his beer, and said cheers.

Reports are he stayed 45 minutes longer than the 1 1/2 hour scheduled autographs time to get in all the kids who'd waited on line.

I'm so glad that Cap's characterization improved dramatically in Winter Soldier. As did Evans portrayal, as well as his comfortability. Finally they didn't make him pointless, and actually made him a staunch, bad ass pure good guy in a cynical world.

But more importantly the Russo brothers ditched the horrendous previous Cap suits, and put him in something respectable. Believable, textured, functional and cool. Even the First Avenger Suit / Smithsonian Suit were a little MEH. These however are awesome. Legit cinematic, real world Cap suits:

This however is just about as cheesy, or corny as it gets in a big budget, live action superhero film.

Whoever had the idea this was acceptable to be put on screen should be fired. And don't use the Coulson as an excuse. It could've paid homage to the propaganda stuff without coming off so Halloween costume cheap. That mask, and lack of a defined chin strap to legitimize the helmet ended up making him look like a giant blue rubber condom.

Quite possibly the worst big screen superhero costume, next to Shumacher's nipple, and molded butt cheek embossed Batman suits.

Yeah I loved his costumed looked in WS much better. His suit in Avengers looked kinda corny on screen.

It seems like he actually stayed 2 hours more than the time scheduled:

-Seriously, a HUGE thank you to @ChrisEvans for Staying an extra 2 HOURS after the meet & greet ended, to make sure he got to see EVERYONE!
-Not many A-List celebrities, especially these days, would Sacrifice their valuable time to make others Happy... Much Appreciated @ChrisEvans
-This Dude is a genuinely cool, humble, and extremely down to earth person... Thanks again, for making My Nephew's, and My Day @ChrisEvans

and the pics with his little fans are adorable, it`s too cute he did the events for the kids for free

Chris Evans just shared on twitter the link to an even he will participate on:

@ChrisEvans
If you're around Fenway on Jan 3rd, come support!! Its for a WONDERFUL organization that I'm proud to work with! http://christophershaven.org/tickets/

seems to be for a great cause:

We are Christopher’s Haven. We are a home for kids and their families while they battle cancer. Our home is more than a place to stay, it’s a support system to help with things large and small, and a community where families can be together, share a laugh, be comforted, and comfort others. Chistopher’s Haven allows kids and families to focus their energies on beating the cancer that has attacked them all.

Christopher’s Haven is a 501(c)(3) organization located in Boston, Massachusetts with a mission to operate a supportive community consisting of seven temporary apartments and a community recreation area for families of children being treated for cancer in nearby Boston hospitals.

Think they will. They showed them in Avengers when he took control. Think they will (mostly) follow his orders during any fighting.

Um, did we watch the same movie? All he did was shout the obvious. Cap was border line useless in Avengers. He was there because he had to be. Same goes for Hawkeye, and Widow. Who served no true purpose.

Evan's Cap didn't seem strong enough a character, or personality on screen to be commanding attention from the rest of the superheroes. Particularly the chops of Downey Jr. He just woke up from his WW2 slumber, and was so fresh to the modern world he cam across as pretty dumb.

And why would Thor or Iron Man need tactical (Cap's obvious) directions? Stark has a genius computer weapon systems interface program built into his suit that can quantify whatever needs to be done at any time.

And Thor is a leader on his home world of Asgard. Military too. Why would they take orders from Cap? All we saw was a very brief existence of his in the military during a WW2 montage, with no prior military intelligence training, and he's out there unbelievably barking orders. It's actually kind of ridiculous.

Winter Soldier was the first movie to make Cap seem credible. And even then he always has this kind of over naivety that makes him not believable as an intelligent, battle hardened leader of men. Part of that is due to how young, and pretty they cast as Rogers. Evans doesn't have elite acting chops.

I won`t argue with your personal opinion on Evans` acting ability but Steve Rogers is harder to play than TS/IM or any other of the characters in the movies so far and he has done well what he was given; the reason why Cap wasn't as commanding in Avengers, it was Whedon`s fault he was the one to write Cap that way.. as for Evan`s acting chops, they are very elite, watch Dany`s Boyle Sunshine and Snowpiercer.

Actually Rogers is easy to play. Very straight forward, bland, good for the sake of good. No nuance, no multiple personalities, no trauma or depth. At least the guy who plays a fellow boring character like Superman can have fun, or personality with his Daily Planet Clark Kent facade.

BTW Tony Stark works on screen and is so entertaining because it's really RDJ. He defined the character. The character isn't like that or NEAR that compelling on the page in the source material. RDJ is so good, so fun, and his version of Stark literally makes crappy or hollow movies like IM2, Avengers and IM3 at the very least entertaining. This entire studio is built on his back.

Evans has been good in somethings, I can agree but I don't think anyone calls him elite for his generation of actors. He's never totally stood out with his abilities.

Also ... if Rogers grew up and is from the streets of Brooklyn, why doesn't he have their very thick accent?

well you haven`t paid attention then and I`m not going to do the simple of comparing characters, Tony Stark has nothing to do with Steve Rogers, it is comparing apples with oranges.
If you believe Steve has no depth no trauma, then good on you... you obviously miss the subtle performance in which Steve is full of traumas, his eyes reflect the sorrow and yet he smiles to people because he puts himself last; he has an accent now, it is not strong Brooklyn accent but it has been settle better now since Steve is was from Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City, not from Brooklyn, but the writers made up that line "I`m just a kid from Brooklyn" during TFA filming because they didn`t like how the line sounded with "I`m just a kid from Lower East Side of Manhattan" :P so that is the reason why somethings are as they are since many were introduced while filming and not during pre-production when the actors do their job.

About Evans, if you believe he hasn`t stood out by his abilities... ok that`s your opinion... if you`d check around, you`d seen he has been well regarded about his acting chops in general.. don`t judge people so fast, look at Mathew Mcconaughey, several said he wasn`t that good and yet he proved his chops in great roles ... so opinions are just opinions, not the law. If you don`t like Evans, good for you, there is no need underrating his acting ability for that.

I respect people`s opinion in general but, I`m bored of these so...
