Horror The Strangers

It was odd because i don't know if we were supposed to understand that either they know them and it's a big reveal or they remove the masks so that they have a "real" reason to kill them as they know who the killers are...

They just did it to show that they weren't going to hide behind a mask. I would think it's a lot harder to kill somebody when they can look you in the eyes, so the fact that they took their masks off is pretty chilling if you ask me.

imo this flick was brilliant...simple...effective...and honestly...as a director...there's a part of me (obviously minus the outside scenes) id KILL (no pun intended) to convert this show to a stage production. imagine what you could do with different entrances, someone on the catwalk making noises...different venues to screw with the audience. i dig it.

side note: im ELATED scott speedman got his. god, i hate that cat.

This film was on the edge of greatness IMO, but was merely good because of a few setbacks. I had problems with two things:

(1) The Strangers were 2 females and 1 male. I just can't buy into the fear factor of it; make it two males and one female and then we're talking.

(2) The voiceover at the beginning with the "inspired by true events" cliche was unnecessary. I would have eliminated that and the Mormon boy thing completely. Start the film with the first scene with Liv and Scott. End it with Liv crawling towards the cell phone (in the Unrated version) and that's it.

In my opinion, if these were eliminated from the film The Strangrs is a minor classic for horror, but because the film undermines its intimidation by having 2/3rd of the Strangers women and a cliche voiceover that takes you out of the experience, it falls back a bit.

he he..i forgot about the voice over. when friends and i were watching the movie...we were recanting the beginning of law and order..."these are their stories"...it sounds exactly the same! lol

I loved this movie. This, The Descent, and 28 Days Later are probably my three favorite horror films of the decade.

I don't like that. Why would she return. Is she gonna know how to deal with them now? Is she gonna be just as scared as she was the first time? Id rather them mess with an entire new couple or family.

I dunno ^^ :( How can she be breathing when she got stabbed a few times... :( *gulps* Gah, if only someone intervened, then she could have managed to escape but the question is: could she be capable of getting away that easily? If she did, the masked strangers would eventually catch up with her, but who knows.

I'd imagine that they will, she's planned to be in it, nothing has been said about them targeting her again though.

It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever that the opening prologue says that the brutal events that happend that night aren't entirely known if she survived, since she could've just told them.

This was an alright movie. However, no twists, predictable occurrences (I mean we all knew what would happen to his friend), and a measley 75 minute run time...I mean WTF?

7/10

Im watching it right now. I jumped a lot on my bed...and I swore too. lol.

Just finished watching the unrated version. The only difference I saw was near the end when she's crawling towards the cell phone while covered in blood...I really enjoy the part where they're strapped/tied up in the chairs. Its so sad to see them struggle with no hope of escape. Im watching the documentary...Liv was just doing jumping jacks. lol.

I don't see why anyone would expect twists from a movie like this, it's a film predicated on suspense built by an isolated atmosphere and gritty realism, and naturally a survival film centering on two people in the middle of nowhere isn't going to be very long.

lol yeah, she did that to get all pumped up before those scenes. Also, the director looks way younger than i thought he would. Ill be lookin forward to more of his work.

When Speedman went out with the shotgun and all we heard was a shot and then the masked man comes back in. I certainly thought it could be Speedman in disguise trying to help them escape. But no. And then when the friend entered the house...you knew exactly how he was going to die. There were no plot revelations, twists, etc...it all played out exactly how you think it would play it out every second of the movie and that made it predictable and predictability in horror is a fail. Although this movie was tense, it needed a beefier plot.

my only real problem with the film was that it relied too much on the "ninja effect," as my friend and I were calling it. By that, I mean when you would see one of the Strangers, then they would disappear in the next cut. Like they just disappeared in to thin air. That just happened too much.

HAHA the ninja effect. But that is true:o Also, when Speedman was on the ground with the freaking shotgun, the man ran at him so fast it was like a demon dog and he even wheezes. I was like WTF.

just saw this moive yesterday and i thorughly enjoyed it. very suspensful and well done IMO
