The Supergirl News and Discussion Thread

Noticed that Gunn only named the year, rather than a full date. Wonder if they’re really considering moving this one into May.

Regarding Lobo in this and future DC projects…

How hard do you think they should go with his origin? As I remember it, he killed EVERYONE on his planet just so he wouldn’t have any rivals. If they are going to make him a full-on villain, then I guess that’s fine. But if he’s going to be an ally/anti-hero, I don’t think that anyone is going to want to root for a guy who literally committed genocide. What are people’s thoughts on this? I’m usually all for sticking to the source material but this aspect of Lobo always just seemed like DC trying too hard to go full edgelord so they could compete with characters like Wolverine. I think they could back off of that a bit.

Lobo was created to mock Wolverine and all that...but the fans loved him and here we are. He was never supposed to be a popular character and Giffen at first didn't like it.

The absurdity is what makes him great.

They didn't change his origins in the DCAU I dont believe.

I posted this in one of the superman threads, but, I would hope Lobo is hired and sent by either Brainiac or Mongul to seek out the last two Kryptonians.
( he finds kara first on some far away planet with a red sun. Shes In a local bar )

He sees she likes to drink and party.
So he plays up to it.

Long story short, they have a drink off, Lobo cheats, and captures her. Taking her to whomever hired him.
Could be brainiac or mongul on warwold.

Think it could change dates too since Gunn only put “Look Out. 2026” but we’ll see.

I think it’s going to be moved up to May 2026. If they move it to mid July 2026 it’s going up against The Odyssey and SM-4.

That has nothing to do with the story of Woman of Tomorrow.

I don't think we are getting a direct adaptation... They have even dropped "Woman of Tomorrow'" from the title.

Tom King did say Lobo was originally intended to be in the Woman of Tomorrow comics, however.

GreenK's post makes a lot of sense to me... I'd love for it to go down like that.

Like it or not, I would bet Jason Momoa/Lobo is going to be pushed hard in marketing... a lot of women (and men) love Momoa. How much is he going to be in this movie? My guess is maybe 10 minutes max? But we will see.

They have already cast Krem as the main villain, and Ruthye. Gunn himself said that wanting to adapt Woman of Tomorrow was one of his priorities when he first took the job. It's not going to be one-for-one, but the movie is also not suddenly going to be about fighting Brainiac or something.

I haven't read that many stories with Lobo. I guess if he's supposed to be an anti-hero like, say, Venom or Deadpool you can't let him go too far. But personally I wouldn't mind a full on, dark comedy, homicidal Lobo.

I can see the Lobo/Brainiac scene being a post credits scene (or the last scene) setting up maybe the next DC project, or it down the road. I don't think the fight with Brainiac or anything happens in this movie.

Either way, idc... I'm just glad Momoa is Lobo lol.

I think we’re gonna see Lobo pushed hard because it’s Momoa and he’s probably more popular than Milly Or Supergirl…But, Krypto also plays a part in the story and we obviously say a lot of him in the Superman marketing, Supergirl will probably be too soon to replicate that but I’m sure we’ll see him a fair bit still.

As far as Lobo being genocidal, there are people who want to have genuine conversations about Thanos being right, so I doubt it’ll even be specifically mentioned unless it’s apart of some brief exposition.

Bartender: “Do you know who that is?”
Supergirl: “No, Should I?”
Bartender: “That’s LOBO, they say he murdered every single person on his planet, just because he could.”
Supergirl: “Really? *Pause for Comedy* And I’ve NEVER heard of him?”

Then we get a little fight

While I normally don't care for pop songs being used in comic book movies, I feel like this song would be appropriate for Kara.lol

WB Exec: "Superman's performance in the east Asian markets are abysmal, we need to increase our DC brand in that region.... let's include K-pop."

I could just picture that board meeting :o

I’m about halfway through Woman of Tomorrow and I have to say, this movie is going to be a blast if they do it well. Supergirl fighting space dragons and mentoring a damaged young girl? It’s going to be a really great Mando episode with a bigger budget. My only criticism so far is that Krem and Fabio bounty hunter guy aren’t compelling villains but maybe they improve. Either way though, Lobo will make the movie even more fun so that might not matter.
