i'm not surprised that inception is winning. this is the home to Nolan fanboys.
Or... some of us just seem to think the movie was better than others on offer.

yeah, if Tron Legacy was on the list I'd be glad to vote for that.

I voted for Inception. I thoroughly enjoyed The Social Network, and Toy Story 3 was a very poignant look at exiting childhood. That rang true for me especially this week as I'm rebuilding my old LEGO sets in preparation to get rid of them. My girlfriend walked in on me after work the first day I had them all out, and I just looked at her and asked "Do I really have to be 25 again now?" Toy Story 3 really hit the mark. But I still think Inception was the best movie this year. It dealt with some very deep themes, but in a very linear, accessible way. TSN was a great drama, but I think it suffers from a one-sidedness in a very complex story with more perspectives than just Eduardo's.

Is it completely out of the question that those who voted for Inception, including myself, happened to actually enjoy that film the most this year? Is that so hard to believe? LOL. :funny:

Yes. Totally out of the question. :o

But seriously, it was just a joke. It's merely a coincidence haha. It's not like I'm going to disqualify Inception or something like that.

Hands down, out of those choices, True Grit. I loved it. While some have argued that it is one of the Coens weakest films, I must disagree. The movie is quite possibly their most refined as directors. The cinematography is perfect. They never overdo a scene with too many cuts or too much camera movement, they just rely on the simplicity of the story and the setting in which the story takes place in. Not to mention, the performance of Hailee Steinfeld is a wonder to behold. Sure, it's not their most original screenplay, but it still has enough dry, slightly offbeat humor within that it feels enough like a Coen Brothers movie for it to work.

If I ranked the list above, it'd be:
1. True Grit
2. Toy Story 3
3. The Social Network
4. Inception
5. Kick-Ass
6. Black Swan

I hate reasoning like that. It's very condescending. And if you think I'm just saying that because I'm a Nolan fanboy who managed to stop fapping over his picture for long enough to vote for Inception, think again. I voted for The Social Network.

:wow: What a twist!

Yes. Totally out of the question. :o

Yeah, I sorta figured you were just kidding around. No harm done. :)

It's just that sometimes I wonder whether those who think of others as "fanboys," and only believe that they like something because of some "undying devotion," ever consider the fact that perhaps this individual (or many people) actually enjoyed the film. If you think about it, wouldn't the process of becoming said "fanboy" be a by-product of actually liking something in the first place? So, is it totally out of the realm of possibility to consider that perhaps an individual also enjoys another product from the same creative mind that delivered the first film, show, comic, etc. that they liked? And it doesn't just have to be about plot or story. There are aspects like themes, style, story-telling method, etc. that I think are all viable factors. But this is neither here nor there. I should have just kept my mouth...errr fingers "shut." :funny:

Granted, I can totally understand the nausea that can be associated with some fanbases. As such, I implore you, disqualify the ******* movie. :o ;)

Heh, accusations will happen to any fanbase that has a popular (no pun intended, okay maybe some) following.

I really liked Incpeiton. In fact, I really liked a lot of films of 2010 so I have no idea why people say 2010 was a crappy year. That's an indication that they really didn't get out to the theater much if they believe that.

I wish I could have voted for The Fighter. As much as Inception talked about the value of fictional catharsis, it was The Fighter that actually delivered that for me. Few times have I been as moved by a movie. While it may be unfair since the characters were litterally based on real people both The Fighter and The Social Network offered far more relatable characters than Inception, which despite the ideas it put forth was still a heist film, with heist characters and conventions, which of course was the point, but I dug it slightly less. Now as far as the way it was shot, I thought the Social Network was quite mundane but just acting, character and storywise out of the options offered above, The Social Network just did it for me.

Also there is one scene from the social network that is my favorite of the year just because it speaks so much about so many people I know. The scene where the crazy asian girlfriend confronts Edwardo Saverin about his unchanged relationship status on Facebook. Now I know alot of people that place a very high amount of importance on that little ticked box on Facebook. I know people that have literally ended relationships, decently long and involved relationships with no further contact than changing their relationship status. Ice cold. And by the nature of most peoples facebooks that breakup is public to anyone they know and the other person involved is likely the last person to know. Now with that importance that people place on facebook, with the importance that the girlfriend places on it, I found it to be very poignant that the CFO, co-founder, and primary financier of the website itself placed no importance on it other than running it as a business, because thats exactly what it is.

Now, all of this might change after I see Black Swan tomorrow afternoon.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree that the accusations will always exist. Doesn't make certain reactions any less mind boggling though. :woot:

And yeah, I totally agree that 2010 was a pretty good year, particularly in its latter half. Lots of enjoyable films. With the exception of Grit (which I did like, but came out slightly disappointed due to the hype, which is partially my fault for sure), I love every film on this poll. As much as I love Inception, TSN is such a close second for me, and I can definitely acknowledge what a masterfully crafted movie it is. And I really need to see Black Swan again, which sits in third for me. It could potentially tie TSN, which I've seen three times to Black Swan's one. I think the common complaint I've heard about 2010 though is that the year's summer blockbuster season was a bit dry. While I'm often inclined to agree (although Inception really did make the summer for me), I need only begin listing off 2011's summer lineup to suggest that a tidal wave is coming to make up for 2010's supposed "drought."

Nolan probably has a little to do with it winning by such high numbers here to be honest. Im sure several here just happen to like it the most. Ignoring who's directing it, Inception is probably the most appealing movie to the year for the kind of people that would hang out on a SH forum. Which would explain why Kick-ass was in the top6.

No offence.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

But from that list it would probably be Toy Story 3... followed very closely by Inception as I greatly enjoyed both. And Kick Ass was really good too.

I have to wait until march til Black Swan comes to my theaters :( So I have to vote Inception instead :)

I should mention that both Shutter Island and Scott Pilgrim missed being in the final voting by one vote.

Though if both got more votes, I would've done a run off between the True Grit, Kick-Ass, Shutter Island, and Scott Pilgrim.

In fact, I was thinking about doing a run-off between True Grit and Kick Ass, but I figured that having a 6th film wouldn't hurt.

I agree about the Blockbuster season. I liked Iron Man 2 but it's pretty forgettable in the long run and not as memorable as the first two Marvel Studios films. Still fun to watch.

Toy Story 3 delivered for me. I loved TS3 because I grew up with the characters.

Inception was great too. I loved that Nolan puts a lot of detail into his shots and story. The cast was great too. I really enjoyed Gordon-Levitt, Page, and Hardy along with DiCaprio and Cotillard.

One more film I must mention I really enjoyed over the summer was The Other Guys. I found it to be hilarious and [BLACKOUT]Derek Jeter getting shot is the funniest moment of the year to me.[/BLACKOUT] My favorite comedy however this year overall was Jackass 3D.

Disappointed not to see fighter up there. My vote goes to the black swan.

As much as I like The Social Network and Inception I have to go with Black Swan, it's my favorite film of 2010.

What Scott Pilgrim didn't make it?? Aww :csad: my day is ruined.....!! :cmad:

:woot:

From that list the only one I loved is Toy Story 3, so voted for it since my fave isn't listed (Scott Pilgrim).

I'm honestly torn between Black Swan, Inception, and Toy Story 3. I ended up going with Black Swan because it isn't a high budget blockbuster but it is just as good, if not better, than Toy Story 3 and Inception.

I highly recommend that anyone who hasn't seen Black Swan yet, go see it! It's a great movie!

its on my list next to The Fighter and Green Hornet.... I'm alas I'm Unelmployed so it will be ahile till I go to the movies :csad:

Excellent...I'm going to see both Black Swan and The Fighter Sunday afternoon.

Saw Black Swan finally, I enjoyed it. still stand by my decision of picking The Social Network.

Havent seen Black Swan yet but... Inception rocked my world last year, so that gets the vote.

Haven't seen Inception yet, but I can't see it surpassing my love of Kick Ass... that film was the perfect combination of everything I want from a movie, and will stay in my top films for the rest of my life :)
