Hi guys,

Is it just me or have you noticed that some of marvels best stories involve how terrible it would be to have someone go into your mind and mess around in there? From avengers (with hawkeye and widow) to the winter soldier to Jessica jones, it seems to be a continuing trend.

Do you think this is a modern reaction to surveillance laws or perhaps even marvel's higher ups and their disgust at having someone interfere with their creative vision or do you think it's because of some other reason?

Mental weakness or vulnerability is a nice contrast to physically powerful characters.

Also, the source material these stories are pulled from came out long before the US became a police state.

Those stories were always spread out over many years though. It's funny that when marvel chooses to adapt stories they gravitate towards the mental imprisonment ones

If anything, I'm inclined to think it's more of a political statement than some sort of revolt against creative restrictions.

I think it's more that fight against a friend is more interesting than one against a foe, in the case of Hawkeye and Bucky.

Jessica Jones, on the other hand, really wouldn't be the same character without the mind control elements of her backstory.

Mind control powers are not only a common trope in comics but in lots of fantasy based fiction, even not so fantasy based stuff. This seems like a huge reach.

Also... It's very obtuse and silly to say that the U.S.A. is currently a police state.

I think its just Marvel picking up what's there in the comics.

To add to the list one that was missed: Agent Carter vs. Dr. Faustus.
