The thunder- thunder- THUNDERCATS HOOOOOO!-thread - Part 2

El Bastardo, I think CN is basically chopping up the 26 episodes as "two seasons." So the show is going on another hiatus for a while.

MessiahDecoy123, I think the original series had some decent voice work, but the dialogue and overall voice work doesn't really hold up very well and stand the test of time. I mean I love the characters and their voices for how "iconic" and "identifiable" they are. I think Earl Hyman was great as Panthro. But the other characters just sounded too stiff at times and their dialogue was also at times ridiculous.

I prefer the voicework in this series mainly because it's more natural and realistic. Andrea Romano is great at getting that type of sound.

i agree except for Panthro.

I HATE HATE HATE the guys voice for Panthro.
I think its because i am sick of hearing him as almost every SINGLE "BLACK"/Musclebound CHARACTER in cartoons...

i'm just sick of his voice.

I can't hate the guy because he also voices the elder elephant there, using his Baldur's Gate Narrator voice. :D

gkokujin, I was saying I preferred the voice actor for the original Panthro in the 80's series. Kevin Michael Richardson voices Panthro in this series. Also Kilowog in GL Animated Series.

Most 80s voice work hasn't aged well, not because the actors themselves were bad but mostly due to the clunky dialogue they often rattled off.

Yeah pretty much. Though every once in a while I find shows that did have some pretty inspired work for its time. I think Transformers G1 did have some good well written episodes and dialogue at times. Other times not so much. Though I found the writing for the third season of the show was very well done.

Did you know Topcraft aka Studio Ghibli did the original show and some of the makers went on to do Grave of the Fireflies, Castle in The Sky, Totoro, Pom Poko and Howl's Moving Castle.

Yup. And this series animation is produced by Japanese anime company Studio 4C who did things like the Batman: Gotham Knights animation.

For anyone in the UK, just thought I would mention that Channel 5 have started airing the new Thundercats, starting with the 1 hour pilot this morning. So for any UK fans, it's on Channel 5, Sundays at 10am.

I caught the first few eps online but missed the others so now I can see the full run, which is cool 'cos I was actually quite enjoying it.

Does anyone know when it's coming back? I need my thundercat fix

Would you rather Panthro be voiced by Chris Rock? :cwink:

I love it. He's one of the best voice actors ever.

Just finished episodes 5 and 6. So let me get this straight, using the wrong key sets off a trap, but simply picking the lock is a-okay?

Anyway, "Old Friends" was a lot better than I expected. I figured it would just be another Lion-o learns a lesson episode, but to my surprise it was also a Panthro learns-a-lesson episode. Much more interesting.

"Journey to the Tower of Omens" I found kind of disappointing tho, especially for the first major throwdown with Mumm-Ra. I felt it was poorly directed compared to earlier episodes.

Anyway, I need a Cheetara-centric episode stat. I've had enough of her as just the voice of reason with long legs and boobs.

Gosh, I almost forgot about this show. Any word on when it might return? Young Justice and Green Lantern return on March 3rd, but I haven't read anything about this show in awhile.

Second season was announced as being in production, but no actual date yet has been listed for the show.

I know that a second season was announced but they never finished airing the first, I believe. As far as I remember "Between Brothers" was the last episode and I don't think that was the season finale.

Just found this IGN article about Season 1: Book 2 coming to DVD on June 5th.

http://dvd.ign.com/articles/121/1218472p1.html

It says:

Get prepared for a second dose of ThunderCats episodic caboodle on DVD as a result of the success for the first release, as Warner Home Video is preparing to launch ThunderCats – Season One: Book Two on DVD exclusively come June 5, 2012. This will once again bypass the high-definition Blu-ray format, proving that studios are still reluctant to dish out the dough to deliver HD-quality children's programming, even if it is aimed at a secondary demographic.

I'm a bit unsure of what they mean by "on DVD exclusively come June 5, 2012."

Does that mean it's only coming to DVD and won't be aired? I kinda doubt that. Maybe it just means they won't be released for download, but that also seems unlikely.

Is it me or did this show just fall off the face of the Earth?

More like it fell off the face of Third Earth. :rimshot:

But no, not just you at all. I had almost forgotten about the show until this thread got bumped today. Cartoon Network really seems to love dropping the ball with their good shows.

Glad I could set up a rimshot for you. :cwink:

They have a history of doing that. If by some weird whim of fate a reboot of Robotech (or what we call Robotech here in the good old USA) gets made let's hope it doesn't end up on Cartoon Network.

No. The was first season was only thirteen episodes with the last being "Between Brothers." That was always the intention from the start.

Maybe it just means it won't be released on Blu-ray? It's definitely not a digital thing; the whole season is available on iTunes already.

I looked around and you are correct, sir. For some reason I thought there were more episodes to season 1, but I guess "Between Brothers" was the last. And that IGN article I posted also lead me to believe there was more to season 1 since it lists three more episodes after "Between Brothers."

Still wish we knew when it was coming back. They could at least do reruns to keep people interested.

I really wished that the first season was twenty-six episodes.

It is my understanding it was, I'm guessing they simply decided they would split it up into 13 episode segments.

Even worse? New episodes are apparently now being aired in Ireland. ****ing Cartoon Network.
