The Thunderbolts* News and Discussion Thread

it'd almost make more sense to have some other high profile/ very rich villain to have bought it, but once they were taken down/killed/or arrested the tower was seized by the government and they just allow her to use it
also
seems kinda high profile to operate out the tower
I mean there's a couple dozen government buildings in Manhatten alone. It wouldn't be that absurd if Tony sold it to them. Especially since he's already worked with the government on other things already like forming Damage Control.
No more high profile than the Triskelion.

I honestly don't see anything that makes me feel it needed to be on the big screen. It could just be a high budgeted straight to D+ movie. I will of course see it, the trailer seemed well crafted and like a nice one off. I am never really into the villain team up thing like Suicide Squad which this feels like an Marvel SS. I am sure Cap 4 and this tie together.

I'm just hoping it doesn't suck so it would benefit Fantastic 4 months later. Fantastic 4 needs all the help it can get.

There's already the Captain America movie with its early poor screenings that led to reshoots/big delay. So Thunderbolts* couldn't possibly go lower.
F4 should be fine as this is the first F4 in Marvel's hands people will give it a try. I don't see Thunderbolts having any real impact on it since the casuals that they attract are different. The movies are set at different times and tones. F4 is more likely going to set up the Avenger movie and maybe future big stuff. This feels more like a one off tone shift.

Trailer was decent. That poster is otherwise fantastic but Yelena just glamour posing randomly in the centre is ruining it for me a little. Would’ve been 100 times better if she was actually part of the kerfuffle.

Also is Olga Kurylenko part of the cast? Taskmaster had her face covered in every single shot. Is she still under mind control?

I really hope this spins off into something else because I'd love to see The Punisher and Elektra hang out with these guys.

I believe she was announced as part of the cast
And she was no longer under mind control at the end of Black Widow, so hopefully Taskmaster is allowed to have some personality this time around

She isnt part of the elevator shot, is she? But then later, she is with the others with Val. Do we assume someone will die here? Maybe its her.

Someone in the crew will die, they can't give them all valuable screen time. Yelena and Red Guardian are the focus and heart of the movie. Everyone else seems like fair game.

A character doesn't have to die just to get less screentime.

If I'm putting money on anyone to die, it's Red Guardian
Gives Yelena that emotional moment and motivation to become something more than an assassin

I thought poster looks solid, until I saw someone posted the poster from Sons of Anarchy which looked like this movie completely copied....

The trailer is meh. I don't like the font choice/font color. Someone from X, pointed out "finally there's color grading in a MCU film" but the color grading is almost similar to the early DCEU films and I hated that color grading. Ghost and Taskmaster both look muted with the new color scheme of their costume and both costumes are not improvement from their previous costume. Its like they removed the personality from the previous costumes.

If someone showed me the trailer and I didn't know anything about it, I would have said, its for Disney+... I just don't get why Marvel Studios made a Thunderbolts* movie, that isn't even heavily inspired by the Thunderbolts from the comics.

Everything about this trailer is just so meh. Sentry has this golden hair and Superman-built like body in the comics yet here, it looked like he just woke from sleep wearing plain clothes... Who's the enemy here? Random guys with tasers/guns? The line up isn't interesting. I don't care about Valentina and U.S Agent finally getting a major film role. I don't think I've seen who's playing Taskmaster. Ghost is Ghost. I didn't think Bucky needed to be in another movie now that Steve Rogers is gone. I liked Black Widow 2021, and I thought Yelena/Red Guardian/Melena could have been great as Black Widow supporting characters to Natasha for a Black Widow trilogy (which was obviously not gonna happen). Without Natasha in the picture, it is simply not the same. Scarlett executive producing this doesn't change that.

This isn't going to perform poorly at the box office as The Marvels. The Fall Guy still earned more than $100 million in North America and it was the movie that kicked off the summer movie season this year, so this should at least perform better than The Marvels. But my God, this looks like the least interesting movie Marvel Studios produced... bland with an unexciting line up of characters.

Also this, I'm personally excited for the film, really enjoyed Black Widow because, even though I knew it would connect CW and Endgame, it felt like its own story and the support cast was fresh.

I like the focus on these group of character whom I was not familiar and the take they will go moving forward as New, Dark or Secret Avengers. It's playing off the multiverse angle without the multiverse jumping aspect but by having hmmm "in universe variants/counterparts" of the characters.

The poster also reminded me of this...

So...how was Yelena holding USAgent back when they were on the floor and he was trying to stab her
Does he no longer have the super soldier serum?

The trailer barely moved the needle for me. The only thing that really caught my attention was “Bob”… and the belt. Now that could be some juicy stuff if they do it justice.

That poster is so silly.

The only reason I have any interest in this movie is because of The Sentry. I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority of liking the character. That first mini series through Marvel Knight was so good, imo. I was hoping this film would cause a re-release of the TPB.

Well, Sentry is in the movie. The Void being the main threat for the final act was where I always saw this going

Not a fan of the Void. I'd rather they just simplify it by giving Bob split personality disorder with his main power set.

I feel like Hollywood should move away from the evil split personality thing. And I imagine Disney would want to avoid the potential blowback from mental health advocates.
