Comics The Thunderbolts Thread

I was loving that Pulse storyline, until Luke Cage took GG out.
Spidey should have been responsible for what happened to GG in that storyline, Luke Cage doing it just didn't feel right.

Well, Goblin DID almost kill Jessica Jones and their unborn baby. So, Luke had enough reasons to whup some Green Goblin ass and for Spidey to take the backseat on that one.

So #112 came out this week...did any of you guys pick it up?

Starts off with Osborn addressing the team on their near single-handed defeat by Jack Flagg last issue...lots of great interaction between Norman, Songbird, and Moonstone...which later moves off to a private conversation between Norman and Dr. Chen (Radioactive Man)...

Not too much action this issue, but lots of great conversation and debate...we also get a nice moment between Norman and Mac Gargan, as well as a scene between Norman and a completely deranged Bullseye...

There's also a cameo by Stan Lee himself, in a parody of his "Who Wants To Be A Superhero" show, an what looks to be a set up for future confrontations with Steel Spider and American Eagle...

Good stuff.

I thought this was the issue where we would see the Symbiote messing with Gargan's mind. That's what I read in a newsrama interview. I'll still pick this one up.

I'm definitely into this book big time now. It has very much moved up my list of comics. From Deodato's amazing pencils, which I liked Deodato on Amazing Spider-Man but it just didn't fit to me, to Norman Osborn being completely insane...it's a great book.

I loved that last page though. "Steel Spider. Man. Steel Spider, man. Heh. Spider. Man. Spider. Spider. Man. Spider-Man. Spider-Man. HAHAHAHA!!!!"

Classic.

I was completely disgusted with this team. The only character that wasn't outright evil came off totally pathetic. Seeing Jack Flag get killed like that after managing to give them a fight sealed it for me. I'm done with Thunderbolts.

Um....he wasnt killed. Just hurt really bad.

You sure you actually read it? :cwink:

Yeah, I thought that it was pretty much spelled out right there in the issue. Bullseye comes right out and tells Jack Flagg after stabbing him that he didn't kill him but paralyzed him. So, you know...that old chestnut.

Anyone read #113?

Man, Osborn is getting more coo coo for coco puffs by the minute! :woot:

Apparently, Moonstone has begun her bid for power, i.e., Director of the T-Bolts, and has started secretly moving against Norman and rival Songbird. She's got some agents tampering with Norman's medication, and is taking advantage of his rifts with various team members to rally them for her cause. She's also arranging for Songbird to have a little "accident" in battle for the near future...

Lots of intrigue and back-stabbing, which is what i was hoping for. :word:

All that, and the set-up for the looming battle against Steel Spider (and maybe a few other third-stringers), continues to unfold.

Good issue,

Can't wait to read the next issue! I'm really shocked at how much I'm loving this book. I honestly have to say that Civil War was worth it just for this.

Also, Norman's insanity is one of the driving forces behind this book. On top of that, watching Gargan having to adjust to the symbiote is awesome. With Eddie, he was with the symbiote, and that was that...same with Cassidy....with Gargan, we're getting to watch him come to terms with it. I like that.

Yeah, im a sucker for classic Spidey Rogues (By classic, i mean created by Lee & Ditko, or Lee & Romita) inter-acting, and so i really loved that scene between Norman and Mac last issue...

If you enjoyed last issue's Osborn craziness, what 'til you read THIS issue! :woot:

Come back and leave your thoughts after you read it.

As a crossover junky that I am, I really hope to see a Spidey/TB one soon. Norman portrayel so far in the book is great, can't wait for him to finnaly crack up, actually I can cause its really fun to read.

I think its great (what's even greater is all those doomsaying Nicieza fanboys who thought the title would go to hell once Ellis took over are now eating crow :)).

My only nitpick would be that Osborn's insanity and obsession with Spider-Man could be depicted as a little more subtle. It seems a bit over the top at times. Otherwise I'm enjoying it immensely. I really hope poor Ollie doesn't go to the great cobweb in the sky next issue tho.

Did you get this week's issue?

Ollie pretty much handed the T-Bolt's their collective asses, lol. :woot:

Although it looks like an even bigger brawl is set up for next issue, with Bullseye waiting in the wings to even the score.

Another good issue. My only gripe is Deodato seems to draw Venom like he's 10 feet tall. Any of you guys notice that?

The latest issue was pretty freakin' cool. Ollie was definitely right...the Thunderbolts weren't prepared for there being THREE unregistered heroes, heh. But they just released Bullseye so it looks like some people aren't going to be walking...like ever again. :csad:

I was disappointed that we didn't get any Osborn in this latest issue. He's been the highlight of the title to me with his undying obsession with Spider-Man. I'm just waiting for it to boil over and he and Spidey can go at...because Pete is pretty pissed off and I think it'd be a great battle right about now.

But, in a way, I'm happy that Marvel...for once...isn't doing the, "Hey, lets have Norman Osborn cause all the hell in Peter Parker's life". So, I suppose that's a positive thing to come out of it.

I loved the conversation Steel Spider and that Native hero (I'm sorry, I can't remember neither his real name or his super alias) had when the Thunderbolt's missiles appeared overhead.

And I loved seeing that ***** Moonstone get a metal stake rip a nice chunk of her arm right off!

I both liked and disliked seeing the TBolts get their asses kicked again. It was cool on the one hand, while on the other, its like "when are they going to have a successful mission without Bullseye?! Once again they're starting off failing!"

My only gripe, which did not effect me liking this book, was Venom. First of all, since this is still Gargan's Venom, why did he look exactly like Brock's Venom? Most panels, the black widow spider symbol wasn't even on his chest, but when it was, it looked exactly like Brock's! And Venom's eyes within his symbiote's eyes mask...whatever...was gone, making him look even more like Brock's version. And most of all, why does he keep...getting........bigger?!! Lastly, I don't mind seeing Venom of any kind get whooped around a bit, but out of all the members that got thrashed, Venom's ass was pounded into candy dust! There's no way any Venom, short of Angelo Fortuno, should get a thrashing from B and C-list heroes THAT thoroughly!

Still, this was probably the best in this arc. Seems like the team's going through a radically change next issue.

The native American guy is American Eagle. First appeared in a Marvel Two In One annual in the early 80's, iirc...he's actually a bit stronger than Gargan if i remember my old Marvel Handbooks, so that and considering he kind of got the jump on Venom made Venom's butt kicking legit...

Im not familiar with the female hero though...Sepulchure? Anyone know where she's from?

Well, I'm still liking this series....not loving it, but definitely liking it.

Venom's ass-kicking wasn't that harsh. I liked that the T-Bolts walked in all cocky and got whooped again. I'm hoping that Norman ends up having to lead the team into battle in their next mission, or maybe ends up having to save their bacon in this one. ooOOOooo....that would be so sweet.

That's what I'm really hoping for as well, Shin. I want to see the Green Goblin in action again. But I think that if we're going to see the Green Goblin the guy facing him down is going to be Spider-Man.

Spider, man!

That would all be made even better if the Thunderbolts came to Norman's aide...and then the New Avengers came to Spidey's!! Just Spidey vs. the Thunderbolts would be awesome to me. Honestly, if b-listers are giving them problems, Spidey would whoop all of thier asses...

new avengers vs. thunderbolts would be pretty freaking sweet and seems kinda inevitable imo

While I don't care for "The Other", when Peter faces Norman again they need to make mention of the power upgrades Peter has. It would be cool if he catches Norman off guard with his enhanced strength or even those stupid stingers and he references the fact that Norman isn't aware of what's happened to Peter.
If your going to have Spidey "upgraded" then they need to play this up against his rogue gallery and show that he's able to take these guys out a little easier.

Heh, yeah. If the Steel Spider is kicking the crap out of the Thunderbolts then Spidey is going to have a walk in the park. And if it's Thunderbolts vs. New Avengers...well, that's pretty much no contest.

But I definitely can't wait to see Osborn back in action and another Goblin vs. Spidey battle.

Venom has been getting thrashed but I've yet to see him actually hurt. More of he gets knocked down then goes psycho. I don't mind the growth thing as he can take any form he wants but gargan's venom should be insanely powerful and fast. Remember when scorpion was first made? Stronger, faster and tougher than Pete with his own danger sense. Pete was only more agile and smarter, but then crappy writers made him a punching bag for any wanna be hero to try out. Still since the symbiote amplifies power he should be slapping pretty much anyone around.

Still I'm loving the current team and they actually made me like some of these D-listers. (who cared about the steel spider until now? I vote for him to get the iron spider suit after killing whoever is pretending to be bugs.) I think Norman will come into the pic when they go after bugs but I also think Norman isn't dumb to Moonstone's little game (she's clever but Norman is on a whole other level of manipulations and planning), personally I think Norman is gonna suprise us and kill her or at least the swordsman off and make a new slot for the team.

I've read T-Bolts since the very begining(Marvel did steal the concept from me) wayyyyyyyy back when the ending to #1 made an entire collective audience drop their comic in surprise,so you'd probably expect me to ***** and moan about changes to the book. You'd be wrong of course, luckily Fabien Niceza didn't kill off every single Thunderbolt to make way room for the new team *coughBendiscough* and a few key members actually were allowed to stay this time(See "Fightbolts" 76-82) granted Swordsman really really sucks, but at least they kept Moonstone and Songbird for the ride. Masochist Speedball is kind of interesting and Greenie easily takes Zemo's spot, however Scorpem inclusion sucks balls. Seriously he looks like crap, and he's an obvious chump, with regards to MK Spidey and Beyond! Hell even Karla says she can make him her puppet once his name is dropped. Obviously Marvel just going for the New Avengers thing, where you throw a bunch of A Listers into a box and see what sells, but Eddie Brock would've been a much better choice, and would have fit with the movie tie in thing Marvel's obsessed with.

Moving on, the biggest problem I had with this new idea is that the villains are a little more, uh homicidal than usual. The old T-bolts had only one known murderer on the team(Former Spidey rogue Beetle), and he voluntarily went to prison because of it. Now you have Venom in action figure form. A creature thats killed god knows how many people, especially adding Carnage to the mix, this is definatly not a good public image to have, including the Green Goblin who last we saw, gassed a church, throw Benjy Poindexter into the mix, and you have combined casualties of more than 1000 people :wow:. Redemption passed these guys a long long time ago

Agree wholeheartly about the redempedition thing, even in the post-Civil War world.
