I looked around, but I didn't see this one, so viola!

When I first read this issue, I was in total fanboy rage mode because the book was totally unlike what I thought it should be, plus the story appeared shorter due to the 2004 Pulse #5 reprint as the second half of the book. I'm mostly over it now though.

Here are my thoughts:

The opening Kubert panel is as luscious on paper as it was in the preview. Frankly, it's my favorite page in this book. The Iron Patriot in the background pointing in Uncle Sam Wants You! style does a lot for me, since I love the-enemy-wrapped-in-our-flag theme. However, this very theme later slows the story down, as it becomes a runaway train.

Ben Urich admits Frontline is a leftist mag. WTF? That was a big let down for me since I perceived Frontline as a group of unbiased journalists. Guess, I was wrong. I'm just tired of every minute issue being politicized between the two wings, it's stupid, and a lot of real moral issues gets lost this way.

And what's with the New Yorkers wanting to beat up Spidey? I call total BS on that. Average folks normally want to be left alone despite the media hype, they just don't blindly hate someone, especially someone who helped them over the years.

Peter Parker, the regular everyday guy takes down The Man, big government, i.e. Norman Osborn. Yeah know, so what?!? Who cares. I was waiting for something else; maybe something like, God forbid, Norman remembering who Spidey is!

Kubert does dazzle, but the smaller panels on a couple pages are too closely packed. Oh well.

Grading = B-. This story should of been a thread throughout this year, not shoved in right before Dark Reign almost ends.

Hey, I really thought this issue was great. I knew to expect something that was going to hype up some final showdown when DR ends.

I enjoyed Kuberts art, thought the battle was enjoyable, enjoyed Peter's victory at the end. The only thing I hold against this book was that it should have happened way earlier. Peter delayed doing this because he was "waiting for the right time" and even was convincing the Avengers not to break in because he thought it would be a suicide mission. But here he just breaks in no problem? I donno.
I was also surprised Ben would admit Front Line was left, but I mean really... If you look back do what they have done, and how they are different than the DB, they ARE left.

Anyways thought this was a great issue, can't wait for Norman and Pete to match up again.

Most Spidey fans are loving this issue. I was expecting the story to be longer, it feels like an edited version. Plus the splash page focused on an inconsequential part of the story. Spidey getting blast by IP's ray beam? Oh well, it was a descent issue. Glad you enjoyed it though, mre!
