Any one else think its time for a live action adaptation of The Tick? Yes, we had the TV series in 2001, but it was right before the super hero boom brought on by Spider-Man. It was bound to fail. However, I think with recent years, where we've been getting at least one big budget superhero movie a year for the past decade, The Tick could be a very clever way to spoof the genre and would be incredibly relevant and in touch with audiences.
With that in mind, who would you cast in the role? I see it like this:
The Tick - Of course, the perfect man for this role, would hands down, be Bruce Campbell, but, I think one would need a slightly bigger actor to sell the movie. So, I have to say, Will Ferrell, yes, I know he is a cliche choice, for comedy movies and doesn't have the body build for the role, but lets face it, like I said, The Tick would need a star to sell it and as far as comedies go, Will Ferrell remains about as big as they come. He's go a good personality for the role and does the dumb funny schtick better than anyone on the scene today. Yes, it would require a body suit, but The Tick is one of the few super hero films where a body suit would work.
However, if you want to go younger, I think Jason Segel would be pretty good for the role.
Arthur - Hands down, Zachary Levi. Arthur has to be the heart and soul of the movie. He has to be easy to panic but also brave when it comes down to it. He has to be Chuck, essentially. Levi is perfect for this role. Unfortunately, at 6'4, the fact that he would be taller than most actors for The Tick could be an issue. Of course, on Chuck, they use camera tricks to make Adam Baldwin look taller than Levi despite being the same height. I think with some clever camera work and editting it would be a nonissue.
American Maid - I think Mila Kunis would do really well in this role. She can be funny. She can play the straight man comedy type which is essentially what American Maid needs to be in this movie. She would be ideal for the role.
Die Fledermaus - For Die Fledermaus, I'm thinking Bradley Cooper would be a really good fit. Essentially a parody of Batman, however everything Batman is not. Pretty much a playboy who poses as a super hero instead of a super hero who poses as a playboy. Forget Green Lantern, I think this is the superhero role that Cooper was born to play.
Sewer Urchin - Sewer Urchin has to be able to switch from idiot to king of cool when he enters the sewers. I can think of someone who has played both types of roles and could easily play them both in the same movie. Paul Rudd. Paul Rudd as Sewer Urchin would be inspired IMO.
As far as villains go, I think you need one of two to carry a movie:
The Terror - For this role, you need an actor who can both be menacing and a stereotyped cliche of the traditional super villain archtype. Of course, you also need an older actor. John Lithgow, comes to mind. He played a villain on Dexter perfectly, and I'm sure with his comedic background he could ham it up a bit to make the role very very funny while also menacing.
Chairface Chippendale - You need someone suave and sophisticated . I don't know why, I know he's not much of a comedic actor, but I think Pierce Brosnan could do this role very well. It would essentially be a voice acting role, I think Brosnan could pull it off perfectly.
What are your thoughts? Who is your perfect cast for The Tick?
